  1. Yeah that was a great episode, I wasn't sure if they could pull a good one off without Mike. That certainly answered any question about that. The only thing is, a victory for Jimmy appears to be a loss for Saul. Have to think this win over his brother will be short lived, I'm not sure they can or should drag out his descent into Saul too long. I don't want too many continuity issues with Breaking Bad occurring.
  2. I was also interested until I checked Fangraphs and saw his average velocity was only 90 MPH. I don't care if he's AA/AAA fodder, just as long as he doesn't somehow leapfrog Melotakis. Heck, I'd rather see Randy Rosario and I'd rather see Jason Wheeler moved from the rotation and into the Twins pen first. Probably David Hurlbut too.
  3. I hope this DH only stuff is widely believed and totally BS. I have a hard time believing that a guy who is capable of stealing 17 bases is incapable of playing even a corner spot.
  4. Well the Twins do have an excellent history with "safe" and "quick to the majors" college arms.
  5. I swear I don't have a pseudonym, but I do like this guy! Whoop, whoop, tell it like it is brother: "Less than one half of one percent of sinkers have been a whiff this year, and since a good sinker doesn’t sniff the zone, it’s no surprise that only one in 77 are looked at for a strike." Although even to me, that first part sounds like it must be a typo.
  6. This front office is in a pickle. This makes sense, but at the same time this team isn't brining home a World Series trophy if Ervin Santana is their best pitcher. They are in an awful situation currently, they know they can't win it all, but they know they might be able to win enough to appease a large amount of the fan base. But hanging on to guys like Dozier and Santana, not to mention winning enough to lower their future draft pools makes it all the more difficult to acquire the players they DO need to win it all later. The brain trust was highly touted and highly paid. Hopefully they can think of means of improvement that we rubes cannot.
  7. I get it, but personally I couldn't tell a distinguishable difference in my confidence in the team after the repeated sweeps in the playoffs by the Yankees and the repeated 90 loss seasons. I felt equally lousy in both situations. I'm always going to have a hard time reconciling trying to push a team to the playoffs that clearly has no shot at winning, with not trading off pieces that could actually fetch a return that will push you towards contention next year. Or you could be big buyers at the trade deadline. I think this team would need to buy two front line starters and two back of the rotation arms to be legit though and that doesn't look feasible. I'd rather win it all once and be surrounded by losing seasons than never have losing seasons but never win it all.
  8. I might be alone, and it might sound crazy to say, but I think another first round playoff exit will probably have me in a more bitter mood come next November than another losing season. There's no way I'm going to be able to handle another "Aw shucks, we're just happy to be here" playoff showing. The last era of good, but clearly not good enough but we're still standing pat, was just so infuriating. So when this team is ready to win, they damn sure better be ready to win it all. And this pitching staff doesn't look anything like a team ready to win it all.
  9. I don't put a whole lot of stock into AA and AAA age averages since both levels are littered with older baseball lifers. Stewart is young for the league, but he's not young compared to guys who hope to be regular MLB contributors in the near future; he's probably about average in those terms. If the problem is his slider, I'd give him until the All Star break to see if he can fix it. If he can't I'm in favor of him dropping it and heading to the pen to see if his FB/change combo plays up. Maybe fly him to Rochester just so he can visit with Kyle Gibson who can tell him about how the sinker has sunk his career first.
  10. Liriano has a pretty bad contract the rest of the season though all things considered. He hasn't been good this year and Toronto may be amenable to dumping the contract to free up some money that might be used better if they do get back into contention. They should be getting Aaron Sanchez and JA Haap back so pitching might be expendable in their eyes.
  11. He'd have to be cheap for me to be interested. All his numbers are in a nose dive and most concerning to me his strikeout rate has been plummeting; he's already in the NL. I'd be interested but not for any kind of prospect that would make me cringe. I'd expect discounts due to production, being a rental and possibly a clubhouse cancer (possibly he's not, but I'd still demand the discount). If the Mets don't cave in at the reduced offer let another more foolish team over-pay for his name recognition.
  12. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/in-a-beijing-ballroom-kushner-family-flogs-500000-investor-visa-to-wealthy-chinese/2017/05/06/cf711e53-eb49-4f9a-8dea-3cd836fcf287_story.html?utm_term=.9bd461290b98 We're all cool with this right? The Kushners giving visas to Chinese investors willing to help fund luxury high rises in New Jersey they are building.
  13. While I find it dubious that the team COULDN'T get better free agent relievers, we've seen plenty of times that money isn't the deciding factor. Some guys might rather be in a different city or part of the country, other guys are familiar with and want to work for a particular manager/coach/GM. From my perspective Minnesota doesn't look any worse of a destination than the places you listed, but I doubt we will ever know all the motivations that drives players. And throw Milwaukee onto that list as well because I liked Neftali Feliz as free agent. Addendum: Tangentially related; remember that one time that Mike Napoli turned down more money from the Twins to sign with Texas who was a condender? Haha, Mike, you choose poorly! * *I reserve the right to delete my addendum if Texas rejoins the Wild Card race and the Twins fall out of it.
  14. The decision on Tonkin was based as much on his past struggles as they were in his current performance. Why would anyone make a decision based on ten innings? He's been their best reliever the past three years. Would you drop a starter after two rough starts? That's about what this sample size is.
  15. Because of his last 2.2 innings? That seems awful rash for the most consistent BP arm the previous three years.
  16. He's only 12 saves from passing Mike Trombley. I wonder if the team will consider letting him achieve that honor first before replacing him.
  17. Seems pretty long term to me. This half inning is lasting foreeeeeeever.
  18. Bring in Chargois, he should be fresh.
  19. So it looks like the game is only one album per artist? I'll play (and look foolish) Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen Rumors - Fleetwood Mac Let it Bleed - The Rolling Stones Abbey Road - The Beatles Appetite for Destruction - Guns 'N Roses Damn the Torpedoes - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Ten - Pearl Jam Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John Weezer - The Blue Album Led Zepplin IV - Led Zepplin Those came to mind pretty quickly. Some would probably be replace if I thought about it for more than a couple minutes. But I'm not going to.
  20. Yeah, advanced statistical analysis came around at the wrong time for a guy who proudly and meticulously crafted and stayed with the exact same swing since he was a teenager. I'm no physicist, but I'd guess the more constantly repeated the causation is the more predictable the reaction is.
  21. Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but with Berrios and Buxton the Twins have had trouble getting the most out of their humble and quiet top prospects. What if the front office thinks Berrios IS ready but is intentionally keeping him down to put a chip on his shoulder? What if they don't want "Aw shucks, just happy to be here" Berrios, they wan't "Screw you, you think I can't do this? I'll show you what I can do" Berrios?
  22. I guess I didn't see in the trailer that motivations were changed entirely. Perhaps they will be but I thought the trailer covered about 1% of what's happening in the story. Also as to how the trailer was heavy on Jake, perhaps the film will be too. But just spit-balling here, in the books Roland is drawn up as a stoic, non-communicative type. The trailer may have needed Jake to do all the exposition because the movie was faithful to Roland's character (at least his character in the early novels) who really only spoke when necessary. Kind of hard to give an un-knowing audience any idea what to expect with Elba just giving the camera a dead-eyed stare for two minutes.
  23. Agree. I'm not sure why he would even bother with a Joe Mauer question except to take a break for some levity/snark. Joe has not yet announced his retirement and it's not 2010, seems like a question about Joe Mauer would get skipped considering there were likely more relevant questions not being answered. Probably not a ton of Ichiro or Curtis Granderson questions getting answered. Not that it bothers me, just a bit out of place.
  24. I think there would be some assuagement of anxiety (not all) if we got an explanation from Falvey himself. Few people on this site want to hear Molitor's thoughts on the situation, we want the justification from the man at the top.
