  1. That's probably because you were 2 when they were hyped. Two-year-olds aren't real good about hype.
  2. I was referring to the young bullpen guys, mostly biding their time in AA and AAA. As they are not up yet it probably isn't fair to assume Molitor would place them in marginal roles in favor of the vets who to this point in the season and most points in their career have shown not to be capable of being high leverage relievers. Molitor's track record indicates he will do this, but I can put a pin in this take on the debate until we see if he actually does or not.
  3. Traditionally that's the case. But what happens whey you have next to no one to fill the larger roles to begin with? You just shoehorn vets who don't fit the bill and don't have the skill into the positions? To me it makes less sense to give these jobs to overmatched vets who don't fit the role than to give it to guys who are expected to fit the role, just perhaps not right this minute.
  4. Only way it makes sense is if the other qualifying prospects all saw decreases.
  5. Great stuff. Some of my favorite names are certainly at the top of that list. I hope the new front office is doing this kind of historical dig. Not just with age, but bucket players by position, handedness, region of the country, school, height, weight, etc. Scouting is always going to be important, but the guys who can assemble and sort data like this can certainly find extremely telling patterns. The tough part is always going to be to convince the decision makers to toss out their own preconceived notions and wishes and objectively consider the data.
  6. Dang. I was really digging Big Boy for a minute there.
  7. I'm not sure the moderators could handle what would become of this site should the Twins use pick 1:1 on a high-contact, low power 1B to replace the current high-contact, low power 1B who was drafted 1:1.
  8. I have to say, if corporations, which are always driven by the almighty dollar are making fun of the most sensitive man on the planet, we have a chance.
  9. When Noah Hawley took up Legion I mentioned that I was concerned that Fargo might not get his full attention. This season doesn't seem to have the same attention to detail or character development as past seasons. I really like most of the actors, but the characters aren't nearly as fleshed out as seasons previous. I wonder how much Hawley is actually involved this year. Also, it sounds like this might be the last season: http://screenrant.com/fargo-season-4-not-happening/ I'm guessing Hawley has other things on his plate, and if they include X-Men they are probably more profitable.
  10. I suggested that this off season, more along the lines with the starters. But then Jason Wheeler got a 2 inning audition before he got DFA'd. I was never high on Wheeler, but he got kicked to the curb over all of these ineffective vets. If Chargois, Melotakis, Busenitz, Bard and the other untested young guys have things to work on that the previous regime failed to teach, my mind would be put at much greater ease if they'd just say that.
  11. Neshek is a rental. Unless we're counting on him to pitch 200 innings out of the pen, why should this team target a single rental? He's not making this team a contender any more than he's making the superior Phillies pen a contender. You could talk me into Hector Neris perhaps.
  12. Also Jon Broxton got released. So along with Joe Nathan, there's you're two open spots.
  13. Is it a coincidence that Joe Nathan just asked for his release from his Nationals minor league contract? I jest. The unless the Twins actually sign him. Then I'm a soothsayer.
  14. At what point is a player or former player going to force the issue? Or an insurance company? The NFL got a huge black eye and has had to change many protocols, rules and philosophies because former players sued them for being complicit in ignoring concussion problems. If baseball doesn't get out in front of these pitchers who throw at batters, they are at the same risk of being found culpable. And considering there is probably no way to prevent the un-intentional HBP the sport risks losing EVERYTHING if a case ever goes through the legal system because they will never be able to prove they can arbitrarily determine the intent of a particular pitcher and enforce their own punitive action. In today's age where we (rightfully) are doing more to protect people from unnecessary workplace dangers, this kind of BS could cripple the league. It needs to act now to deter these pitchers before a more powerful force acts for them. We see today how quickly public opinion can escalate and cause entities to change. It could happen at any moment. And really, how hard is it for the stupid pitchers to at least feign being conciliatory about an errant pitch instead of acting like a school yard bully staring down the plunked batter?
  15. High velocity guys and guys who can miss bats seems to be Cleveland's recipe. I'm going to be dearly disappointed if Falvey suddenly decided to depart from that philosophy upon coming to Minnesota. It was practically the entirety of his sales pitch as far as I was concerned.
  16. Give Marney a shot.
  17. Honestly, both of those paragraphs sound like arguments for the Twins to stay far, far away from this guy let alone make him any promises.
  18. Judging by the responses in this thread, if it was known, it clearly wasn't widely known. His career 6.5 K/9 in Japan sure doesn't look like what this bullpen needs at this point. Or any point frankly. Not sure why he'd be promised anything other than a new razor.
  19. "McKay’s changeup also looked promising, flashing bat-missing movement at times while coasting in at a firm 84-86 mph." His change up is only a few MPH less than his fastball? That in no way sounds promising, it sounds like a typo.
  20. They don't happen at my work, not sure about everyone else here who is currently employed. If some immature idiots got into a fight in my office the police would be called and likely both parties would be fired. Aside from law enforcement, both the Giants and Nationals should have HR departments who are trained to handle such incidents. They'd surely be involved if a couple of front office interns did the same thing.
  21. It could get to that, but seeing as the front office is also hesitant to call up the prospects with more traditional promise (Chargois, Melotakis, Curtiss, Busenitz, Bard, Burdi ), at this point I'm going to chalk it up to some kind of organizational preference to keeping as little youth in the pen as they possibly can.
  22. As someone who was not interested in De Leon as the centerpiece in a Dozier trade at all; someone who didn't think he had the stuff or injury history anyone could ever count on: Way, way too early to make a decision. That start meant next to nothing.
  23. I'd prefer to just stick with The Rock. Though to my recollection that one is much more violent and profane than his robots + explosions movies. Though to be fair I haven't actually seen any of the new Transformers movies except for perhaps 10 minutes on cable. They seem pretty PG-13. Maybe they're good and Bay just gets a bad rap, but the previews for any of his movies from the past 20 years always leaves me with the sense that he only deals in schlock and gimmickry.
  24. Harper's responsibility in that situation should be to call time, calmly walk to the dugout phone, call the police and file an assault charge against Strickland. I'd guess the lengthy delay in the game while the police are on the mound interviewing the assailant might make MLB consider stronger deterrents.
