  1. I for one am in favor of you buying the Twins regardless of what the front office does. You'll sign Machado and Harper right?
  2. I think I'd rather go for Jeremy Maclin. He can stretch the field, which this team is lacking.
  3. But they had one HOF starting pitcher and an actual ace. But most importantly, it wouldn't just be the Astros and the Twins in the AL playoffs like back in 1987. The Astros could fart and falter like the Tigers did but the Twins would still need to win two series prior to even getting to the ALCS. I want to win it all very soon, and I want to win it all many times. But with this roster, the odds on winning it all this year are so long; I'd rather hedge my bets and increase my chances for the next couple of years.
  4. But why would you make minor moves? Jason Vargas isn't putting this team over the top, so why give up prospects of any kind for just him? This sounds like more half measures; like the Kevin Jepsen trade in 2015 which clearly wasn't going to be close to enough to make the team legit.
  5. Personally I'm in favor of improving for the future, and that includes trading the aging and over-achieving Santana. For those that aren't willing to part with Santana now because the team is currently above .500, are you then in favor of trading off major prospects to make major upgrades to the rotation and the bullpen? Because I think there is little debate that this team has no shot at doing anything meaningful without multiple big-time pitching improvements. Standing pat and doing nothing or next to nothing was how this organization used to deal with this situation; I am 100% NOT OK with that. Either do something to improve for the future, or do something to improve now, don't sit on your hands and pray something beyond your control occurs to bail you out. Wishful thinking and winning sports teams only go hand-in-hand in the movies.
  6. Turley's been toiling away for a decade and figures something out now? It looks like Boston's AA club moved him to the pen just before releasing him last year, predictably his strikeouts jumped but his always poor walk rate did not improve. Then he goes to Indy ball and has since gotten a handle on the walks. Now 24 months later his relief inflated strikeout numbers and Indy league walk numbers carry over? Is it just a case of small sample size? Or did he figure something out?
  7. You're suggesting that if Greene and Stewart where in the same draft, everyone would be putting Stewart on top? I don't buy that one, people liked Stewart but not that much; Stewart was so far behind everyone developmentally.
  8. I don't know about the Jay pick, he was supposed to be pretty safe being a college lefty and all. Stewart seemed to pretty clearly be the consensus #4 best player in that draft; I wanted him, I won't fault them for that pick. Buxton over Appel however seems to promote going the risk route.
  9. Chris Gimenez has now pitched as many innings as Jason Wheeler got before getting the ax and has pitched more than Tepesch and Rosario. I wonder if he'll end up with more than Wimmers and Rucinski. I really hope is K/9 improves though.
  10. Falvey has probably already seen that Molitor won't be using any call ups even if the bullpen has been abused. Maybe he's going to work in a counter-intuitive way and call up guys after a start where the bullpen was able to recover. If they send a couple of guys down after a loss like last night and Falvey knows that Molitor won't use the replacements, then the few BP guys that remain are going to be even more taxed the next game.
  11. You'd have to give it to the new guys if they dealt Santana this season, that would take some guts knowing the average fan. I'm all for it and looking at Santana's peripheral numbers, his bubble looks ready to burst any minute now, if it already didn't last start.
  12. Nice to see Twins fans abroad! Keep an eye out for any cricket players who look like they could hit a breaking ball.
  13. Why would those guys be his ceiling? Or Gausman his floor for that matter? The range of possibilities stretches far above and below those guys. Appel, yes, that could be considered a floor. I'm ready to write him off as a complete bust. And I did want him over Buxton at the time.
  14. Good news. I remember watching day 2 and 3 at work last year but I couldn't remember if I had to enter a DirectTV username and password to confirm my subscription to the MLB Network.
  15. If anything, I'd think that would mean the team should aim higher because in almost every case, the guys they gave the biggest bonuses to in each class ended up being the best prospects. I don't think this is the crap shoot that we think it is. Regardless of where they are ranked, the Twins best paid international free agents are overwhelmingly ending up being the team's best international prospects. Aside from the possibility of Vielma and Arraez, who I can't find signing information for, the lotto ticket guys don't appear to pay off. Don't give 20 guys 10K, give two guys 1M. Or one guy 2M. Or you know, do something really wild.
  16. We've typically had draft day tracker threads, one for each day. The Twins play Seattle at home so I'm guessing there will be the game thread and the draft thread going with people getting all sorts of confused. Speaking as someone who has an office day job, following the draft on my work computer and chiming in on day 2 and 3 has always been entertaining. We cut our satellite package and no longer have the MLB network at home, I'm hoping I can still find the proceedings somewhere to stream day 1, I'm not sure if I'll need to be a subscriber to the network to watch.
  17. I thought I'd do a bit of a dive on the subject, and I have to disagree about the idea that quantity trumps quality for the international guys. Just about all the international guys we are excited about were signed for sizable bonuses. Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Lewis Thorpe, Lachlan Wells, Fernando Romero, Felix Jorge, Lewin Diaz, Wander Javier and Huscar Ynoa all went for well over 100K most getting at least half a million. Randy Rosario went for 85K which is still quite a bit. About the only big named international guys I can't find information on are Engleb Vielma, Luis Arraez and Jermaine Palacios and we were talking about Palacios when he was signed so he probably got a hefty sum. I think the scouting on these guys is probably better then we assume, which likely is based on faulty stereotypes of information available from foreign countries about foreign citizens. This is still a huge industry, the billionaires running the show aren't going to waste millions of dollars on these kids when they can ship world class scouts and technology down to these countries to do a thorough vetting for a fraction of what it costs to sign the players.
  18. For their part, I don't think the Twins have really tipped their hand. Most people are predicting Wright based either on what the prognosticator would do, or based on what the prognosticator thinks the Twins will do, but I'm pretty sure the Twins have kept a pretty tight lid on their choice. I would be of the opinion that the Twins do have the top preferences already written in ink even if they imply otherwise, now they are just trying to figure out if there is any kind of value in doing something creative.
  19. For what it's worth, Cleveland's 1st round picks lately appear to be much better choices, though to be fair, Texas typically picks late. Aside from the year they picked 4th and picked Dillon Tate, most of their arms seemed to tilt heavily toward the command/control side instead of the velocity/stuff side.
  20. Does anyone know what role in the draft process Falvey and Lavine had with their previous teams? The meaning of Darin Johnson's promotion has been debated but as far as I know there haven't been any talk about any outside hires to be a keystone of the draft process. That leads me to believe that unlike Terry Ryan before, either Falvey, Lavine or both are much more hands on with the process this year. Just wondering if we know who is doing what and who's opinion carries the most weight.
  21. I was just wondering if the command/control issue* was due to being slightly off target or if it's because he's not attacking the zone because he knows AA batters will chase. *To clarify to those who think I'm being pessimistic, I'm not critiquing him, I'm just curious as to the root provocation of his high(ish) number of pitches. I feel good about Gonsalves and I'm just wondering which aspect of pitching he should be working on.
