  1. And considering he's on house arrest, a friend or family member almost certainly had to get it for him. That person needs to be exorcised from his life.
  2. I'll surely hope that Granite, Palka or someone else can provide an upgrade over Rosario at some point, perhaps even soon. But isn't the premise of Rosario and his leash about seeing improvement? His slash lines this year: April/March: .294/.366/.660 May: ..310/.500/.810 June: .344/.536/.880 Isn't he doing what we are asking for? I mean aside from the errant throw.
  3. I'd take Feliz, he's basically free. His velocity and most of his peripherals are the same. It looks to me like his biggest change is he's giving up more flyballs this year than he did with Pittsburgh, which obviously didn't translate well in homer friendly Miller Park. His flyball rate is still in line with what he was doing in Texas though. Since he's so inexpensive I'd gladly give him a shot and see if his issues were due to bad luck and his home park.
  4. Does anyone else feel kind of dirty accepting this win?
  5. Sano might have rifled one like that to Mauer a time or two.
  6. I think you're mixing up their pitch count and their ERA.
  7. This analogy is completely unfair to professional dart throwers.
  8. Between bull riding and replays of poker tournaments, FSN does have leverage with their extrodinary content available to them!
  9. I'm not interested in Arrietta barring some kind of unlikely short-term, get-back-on-the-market kind of deal. But I still wouldn't begrudge anyone who is interested in him for not also wanting Santana. These are different pitchers and three years in age is huge.
  10. His Left On Base % is also at a career high, and by a lot. He's 3rd in the league in fact and 14% than his career average. Which makes zero sense considering his walk rate his higher and strikeout rate is lower than any time in the past ten years. He's doing well based on his miniscule 5.3 H/9 which is leading the league. In his previous seven seasons he has had a H/9 between 8.1 and 8.9 every single year. Once this figure normalizes, the party's over. I'm very concerned about him going forward.
  11. I was really close to congratulating HOC for departing from the format of the last two seasons which was basically just a long lead up to elections. It looked like that was going to be another drawn out election process once again but then it surprised me and got through it in just a couple of episodes followed by multiple historically rare constitutional explorations of what could happen in our government. It seemed interesting even if quite implausible. But then they took the implausibility to a new level with the last couple episodes. The reveal of the final scheme just made no damn sense. I watch OitNB with my wife because it's one of the few shows we watch together anymore. This season's premise is different which is good. Still, it falls victim just as so many shows before it of softening the edges of previously unlikable characters. Racists are now not racist, bratty rich girls are now not bratty, oblivious and dumb characters gain societal insight, violent characters are now cuddly teddy bears. It's OK to have characters the audience doesn't like or identify with, not everyone has to transform for the better.
  12. I'm much less of a fan of calling up the batters straight from AA, I'd like to see Gordon get some AAA pitching first; it hasn't worked out terrible well for the Twins when the batters have had no or minimal AAA experience. I think they need to continue to figure out how to adjust and react to the pitchers. I'm just fine calling pitchers up from AA though, particularly relievers. They are the causation to the batters reaction, the things they tend to have to work on like mechanics and control are completely independent of the batters they face.
  13. I'd like to try to get some guys who are still young but have had a lot of luster worn off. I'd be really interested if the Twins tried to get some off-the-radar names like Zack Wheeler or Archie Bradley. These after the afterglow type of guys aren't really exclusive to buying or selling teams.
  14. That's not saying much though. I've seen Hughes and Santiago pitch this year. Instead of losing by 7 runs, they maybe only lose by 5. These guys are still really ineffective pitchers. Hughes, Santiago, Pelfrey, Nolasco, Correa, Pavano. I'm just so tired of holding the bag on these vet pitchers when they go bust. I know the argument is usually that people want to get prospects in return for these guys before they go belly up, but that's not really the biggest issue. Because of their status, contract and past year's success the team keeps running these guys out there long after it's clear they are no longer effective. How many games has this team lost in the last decade crossing their fingers and hoping these guys regain their glory, which almost always looked unsustainable to begin with? I don't want to do this with 35-year-old Santana too, I want to end this cycle.
  15. I wouldn't trade Santana without expecting to get at least one and hopedully more pitchers that can step into the rotation next year. That doesn't mean I'd expect that pitcher to be as good next year as Santana is this year, but man, Ervin's age has really snuck up on us. There isn't a 35-year-old pitcher anywhere to be seen on any pitching leaderboards. Not any good leaderboards anyway. CC Sabathia is 37th sorted by WAR and 32nd by xFIP. That's the best available for guys eligible to be elected President. And to my other concern, Santana is currently tied for 47th and 66th among 83 qualified pitchers in those metrics. Somehow, someway he's winning due to being 3rd in LOB% despite the fact that he's at his highest BB/9 rate and his lowest K/9 in over a decade. His LOB% is 14% higher than his career norm, it doesn't seem sustainable. He'll probably continue to prove me wrong, but he looks ready to turn into a pumpkin at any second. I think we're in for some Hughes-like anguish if this team goes into next year expecting Santana to be a net-positive pitcher, let alone a front of the rotation guy. The worst thing that could happen is if he starts going belly up towards the end of this year but his early season stats inflate his overall production, masking what we should be expecting going forward.
  16. Man, does anyone remember when expansion drafts for all teams ensured the new team had to take the time and effort to develop the organization from the ground up? The NHL must really, really want their new Vegas team to do well right away. This process is slanted in their favor so much more so than when the Wild and the rest of the new teams joined the league When the Rockies, Marlins, Rays and DBacks joined MLB and when the Bobcats, Raptors and Grizzlies joined the NBA, they were picking from the scrap heap. Hell, the new Cleveland Browns STILL haven't found their footing. But the owners had to agree to this expansion format, which almost makes it seem to me that they are more concerned with the new team making bank and contributing to the NHL as an asset than they are with putting the best team on the ice for their own franchise.
  17. So the Kernals have clinched and the AS game is tomorrow, does that mean Palacios gets to head to Ft. Myers on Wednesday?
  18. The last crew made lots of mistakes and I used to be a huge Meyer backer, but I was ready to give up last year, partly because I'd seen enough and thought the odds of a turn around were to the point of unrealistic expectations and partly because Paul Molitor had been making it pretty clear that he was never going to give Meyer a legit shot if he was on the roster. But it looks like the unrealistic expectations might actually be plausible and now with the state of the pitching staff, Molitor would have had no choice but to give Meyer the ball every 5th day and leave him in as long as possible. So Anthony was wrong, though so was I. I'm not going to let it taint my hope that Busenitz can become a high leverage reliever though. Despite the homer, he looks like he can stick. And one thing of note, the Angles have all but scrapped Meyer's changeup, making him a two pitch pitcher. It seems to have worked, and perhaps the Twins should have thought to do it. However there's a pretty high chance that means this is still a house of cards ready to collapse similar to Tyler Duffey, putting Meyer in the pen where so many predicted he'd be all along.
  19. I'd want to be wowed for Santana, but I definitely put him out there. I trust 35-year-old pitchers only slightly more than I trust San Diego pitchers and a hair less than Oakland pitchers.
  20. Well I wasn't being altogether serious. It's my understanding that is not allowed in game threads.
  21. Wow, Cleveland brings in their closer in the seventh to face Buxton. Respect!
  22. I'm not a huge Gray fan. I'd rather not sell the farm for an Oakland pitcher, they tend to be a mirage. I've seen his splits, he's fine on the road but I'm still quite leery. And I do not trust his health. Either way, I don't see the front office "going for it" anyway. If they were they would have called up guys like Busenitz, Curtiss and Burdi right away instead of farting around giving one last chance to guys like Wimmers, Wilk, Rucinski, Belisle and Heston.
  23. I'm all for the evaluation, and I wanted Tonkin, Wheeler, Haley and Wimmers to get a(nother) shot. But you'd think that you'd work your way through the evaluation process with the guys with the lowest probability of being a future contributor only if your team is losing. You'd think you'd start out with the guys with the highest probability of contributing if the team is contending.
  24. If Rooker goes anywhere below Ft. Myers, it better be because the team has decided that he's going to be a player-coach. All reports indicate that his success this year was because he is studious, mature and self-propelling even above his skill level which is extremely high. The Twins had to get permission to re-draft Rooker. If I was him, I would have told the team, only if you agree to start me at Chattanooga.
