  1. Is a soft tosser with an increasing walk issue going to be average in the AL though? He looks like the kind of guy who will be a liability in short order. I don't have an issue losing Burdi, I just think the odds of this guy actually patching a hole are quite slim. Isn't this basically replacing Hector Santiago with a softer tossing Hector Santiago who's only pitched in the NL.
  2. After nearly every sports surgery in all of mankind's history, the team and player call the procedure "a success!!!". I'd guess sometimes they are exaggerating.
  3. I'd actually be curious about J.C. Ramirez. He's been recently converted to a starter and still has a 95 MPH FB and a slider. It looks like he just added a curve this year which is probably raw but he gets good break on it. He's a no-name journeyman so he's got bust potential, but that also probably means he's cheap.
  4. He could be pitching hurt. What we learned after the Padres shady dealings last year, I believe any issues or discomforts a player mentions to the trainer must be added to his medical file.
  5. 2nd tier sounds generous. He looks an awful lot like Hector Santiago to me.
  6. Sounds like I might be alone, but I'm not expecting a soft tossing career NL'er to do well in a mid season trade to the AL. Particularly one who is barely average when he's at his best and has a walk rate trending in the wrong direction.
  7. Twins agree to take on a salary dump is all, I hope. Please don't let the prospect be devisive.
  8. This won't be popular, but the Rays released Danny Farguhar, I'm intregued by him. He's had control issues that range from effectively wild to unusable but when he's on he misses a lot of bats and he's controllable until 2021. With the strikeout potential and controllability he looks like a great lotto ticket.
  9. To me it makes little sense to have guys drafted out of the SEC, ACC or other power conferences to ever go to rookie leagues except for a wood bat tune up, and even then I don't see the issue with adjusting to wood bats in A ball. I'd also bet lots of GMs feel the same. But most organizational players don't get demotions, they get released and I'd also guess that the rookie leagues are much more likely to be filled with players who appear certain to washout. Meaning there's rosters to fill in the rookie leagues and the higher up you go, the better players you have to cut loose. There probably are teams (maybe this one) that are conservative or hesitant or coddle guys or whatever way we like to describe it. But most teams still do it and we don't view all teams in these terms. So I'd guess it's systematic. Though I'm usually for trying something new.
  10. Your confusing the word consistent with being objective. The left will condemn the cops who are shooting people and they will also condemn people shooting cops. It is absolutely not something the other side will do.
  11. Dang, that's crushing for Hughes. I would have assumed the entire rib would have been removed originally. At this point I hope the procedure is quality of life related. There just hasn't been much to show it can rescue a career at this point.
  12. No, but I always guessed it had more to do with the cavernous ballpark. The Padres have been helpless on offense since moving to the new park as well.
  13. Would DFA'ing Hughes now mean Belisle gets a reprieve? Because thus far Hughes is only used in blowouts and Belisle still gets higher leverage situations. If dumping Hughes means Belisle gets extra leash, I vote to keep Hughes and continue to give him the throw away innings. Belisle is a bigger liability.
  14. Speaking nothing of his defense, it seems to me the fringy top 100 prospects that initially bust but figure it out after their first team gives up on them are the guys that based their minor league success on plate discipline. Aaron Hicks, Robbie Grosman, JD Martinez.
  15. Which scouts are we talking about? The Twins scouts or the guys who work for various publications? Because I sure hope no one's fate is sealed based on some HS scouting reports.
  16. I'll bet Lewis would be really good at softball too. Probably not as good as Rooker though.
  17. *****Moderator Note****** Enough of the negativity/positivity stuff let's stay on topic.
  18. I like the optimism, er pessimism? Here's hoping for a future of Schadenfreude with the White Sox!
  19. Wasn't 1984 also Bartolo Colon's first year in the league? I like the parallels with the 1984 team, particularly with the poorly put together bullpen, though I don't think I'll be very happy if we have to wait another 3 years for the team to really be competitive.
  20. Ugh, I liked it better when the White Sox had to build their team through pricey free agent deals. They haven't done well with that. Not looking forward to seeing Chicago become competitive with cheap controllable young guys. The money the young guys will save the team could be devastating for the KC, CLE and MIN when it comes to bringing in the big ticket and high priced hole fillers. I never hear them mentioned, but they're going to have so much money to spend they could easily get Harper or Machado. Or both.
  21. "One day, Bill James walked into the luggage store where my wife was working. She recognized him and mentioned that her husband would love to work for him" How do you make the dumbfounded emoji? That's quite an impressive spouse.
  22. And the fact that a 2016 2nd round draft pick doesn't have "priority" in the Appy League really speaks volumes about how many exciting SS capable prospects there are in the system.
  23. I'm willing to compromise for the Kernels. Rooker goes to Ft. Myers, but CR gets a consolation prize in Lewis
  24. If there's more college age pitching in the Appy League then maybe I'd send him there if they feel he's not being challenged in the GCL. If it's a horse apiece, then I guess I'd keep him in Ft. Myers as well if only to get more time with the instructors down there. If he has any chance to be a SS, I'd like to see them do everything possible to continue that development.
