  1. You ruined it Van! The inside, inside joke was that she was finally embracing her true nature. Now that's over. Thanks a lot.
  2. What do you mean negatively affect his market, that sounds positive to me! Oh, from Santana's perspective, yeah sucks for him.
  3. I like the thought, and I like the defense, but I don't think I like the player. He has a career .303 OBP which is only slightly better than his .305 this year in his career year. I'd think he's going to get paid really well for a guy who is really bad at getting on base.
  4. I'm going to predict that Falvey will try to sign Carlos Santana to play DH next year. He's a former player of Falvey's, has the veteran leadership the front office craves and takes professional at bats. It's hard to slump when you take 90+ walks each year.
  5. Man that is hilariously incompetent. Strange that this quote wasn't called out though: "We have – nobody knows what the number is. I mean, it used to be, when we talked during the debate, 2 ½ trillion (dollars), right, when the most elegant person – right? I call him Mr. Elegant. I mean, that was a great debate. We did such a great job. But at that time I was talking $2 ½ trillion. I guess it’s 5 trillion (dollars) now." Soooooo, it sounds to me like he thinks that the national debt has doubled in the short time since he's taken office? Or does he think that's a good thing and he's bragging about it?
  6. I heard Rome's team stinks. I hope the goal is CLE/CHI/LAD.
  7. Best reliever isn't very comparative though. Molitor has to know Rogers isn't Andrew Miller or even vintage Glen Perkins. To be fair though, I'm more then thrilled Rogers and Hildenberger are getting high leverage spots. Though maybe he's forced to due to his options.
  8. I'd prefer Gibson and Turley. Even if unlikely, or unwanted by the fans of the board, they still have a chance to be here next year. I'd just like every move from here out to have a purpose.
  9. I presume the same will happen, that's why I said he needs to be up this year, not next. I want next year to mean something. Because these guys always get their shot. And then if/when they don't cut it as a starter they then get a shot in the pen. Sometimes they make it there, but either way, they don't need to drag it out because of Dillon Gee.
  10. My vow to be OK with no major moves by this front office if they feel they need a year to do evaluations is really being tested when they are doing the evaluations on meatball veterans who won't be here next year.
  11. I was thinking of Seth's list of guys Rule V eligible this year: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/26999-article-rule-5-addition-discussion/ He doesn't have to be added, you're right, but it would be nice if the Twins could get a big ol' thumbs up or thumbs down eval on him now. Same with Reed and Curtis. Don't let another team test drive them first.
  12. But why would anyone care about giving Gee a shot? He's a free agent after this year and the Twins have already committed to next year. Why do you think he was promised a start? Plenty of former MLB players end up getting a minor league contract with another club and never see the big leagues with that team. The Twins can't promise starts to all of these guys. Particularly when they pick up a half dozen of them throughout the season.
  13. So Slegers never gets a look? He doesn't impress me either, but those career minor league starters who are unspectacular but consistent ALWAYS get a look. I'd rather it be now than next year. He'll have to be added to the 40-man next year anyway, might as well test him out now, maybe he makes the decision real easy on everyone, one way or another. Also, if the Twins promised Gee a shot, and they promised Colon a shot, and they promised Tepesch a shot and they promised Heston a shot, they better have had their fingers crossed, because that means there was way too much expected failure to assume these guys all get a look.
  14. I didn't like how nearly every difficult decision Terry Ryan had to make saw him straddling the fence. This doesn't seem the same though. I think the half measure in this situation, and the one that Ryan likely would have taken, would have been to keep Garcia and Kintzler and do nothing else letting the team try to play for a .500 record. We saw the return Sonny Gray got, Santana would have gotten much, much less and we already know Dozier's value on the trade market which is pretty clearly next to nothing, just as it was last off season. Except for people who absolutely have to have action right now, there was little downside to trying to move those two this off season when more teams might be interested. You still might not get a good return, but it's such a little risk to take. Or as some posters prefer, keep them and add around them. Either way, this trade deadline wasn't a half measure.
  15. I think Jeff Pickler is the guy next year. It might even have been a compromise upon Falvey's hire. He couldn't pick his own guy with Molitor under contract, but he could bring his own guy into the fold.
  16. Chief has no magic powers except to make disappear those who derail threads
  17. The Twins have had some rotten luck over the years come the trade deadline as they never seem to have anyone who is peaking, but they need to start getting the right kind of players if they want to start flipping them. Dozier's production has come during a 2B Renaissance, nearly every team has a pretty good one. Kintzler was a fantastic pick up, but he had little value for the same reason most of us derided the team for giving him the closer role in the first place, he can't miss bats. We've known for a decade now that other teams value that ability more than our club does. To me it didn't seem like Twinsnation even embraced this guy until about June, getting next to nothing for him would have sounded accurate last fall, even this spring. Unfortunately, for a year Santana's warts didn't impact his production, they only started hurting his performances about a month before the trade deadline. However, unlike a decade ago, the other teams do evaluate the warts not just the production, so even had he not tripped up he still may not have brought back the return we hoped he would. Maybe he can find his leprechaun again in the second half and pitch over his head. Or even better, maybe he can start missing more bats and issuing fewer walks and actually improve his peripherals. He seemingly still has the velocity and command to do both should he get locked in.
  18. I would suspect a couple of those guys may be used to acquire better quality MLB pitchers. I'd also hope that Curtis and Reed are givens, but prior to his DFA, I would have guessed Melotakis was above them in the pecking order. Hard to read how the new guys feel about the minor league relievers.
  19. If my daughters are asking, yes, it is much, much older. Stay away.
  20. This front office made their bed in March. Everyone knew the rotation and bullpen in place weren't capable of making the playoffs and any reasonable mind could see there were too many holes to fix in season to make them worthy. And that speaks nothing of a lineup that can't adjust when the other team's bullpen enters the game. This was always a trial and error evaluation year. Glass half full: the Twins made it fun to watch for four months. Glass half empty: they teased us with unsustainable hope for four months. Frankly, if they start calling up some of the young pitchers, I'm going to enjoy watching even if they get their clocks cleaned.
  21. Both Slegers and Enns seem to profile as the unexciting career minor league starter who ends up in the pen due to lacking the skill set of guys with higher ceilings. Guys like Guerrier, Duensing and Swarzak probably had longer careers than most assumed they would.
  22. We're really not going to be able to do the comp thing with the Gray/Yankee deal because we have no idea how either team values injured players with high ceilings. That's surely not something measurable like statistics or comparable like position.
  23. Rogers has thrown more innings than Kintzler though. If the Twins stink it up in the second half, the "closer" might not be getting as many appearances as the guys in other roles.
  24. I bet it's Belisle also. The Twins should send him through waivers right away, then if he picks up a half dozen saves before August, you got yourself another "closer" to trade. Closer, such a silly title that carries some tangible value.
  25. Pick up another castoff free agent and turn them into the next Brandon Kintzler. Maybe this time get someone who misses bats, the return will be a bit better.
