  1. I disagree as no one has asked to make this strategy continuous, only when you have a bad team.
  2. But that's not the point of a tear down. You don't hold on to veterans who have just had a career year, you move them to restock the system. No one has to agree with a rebuild, but to do so entails trading vets at their peak.
  3. I've been saying I'll give them a year to evaluate and I've stuck by that. They should have a good read by now. This off season I fully expect: #1. Multiple trades to improve the pitching staff long term. They don't have to be huge established stars (but they can be) but they have to make sense, i.e.: no high-contact guys, no rentals, no "he's one of us" PR moves. #2. See #1 but with free agency. #3. A Miguel Sano extension #4. A new field manager. One who brings open-minded new ideas to the table, not just a guy who will listen to them because his boss told him to. If these things aren't met, then I'm going to reserve the right to criticize.
  4. Did Recker accept the assignment? He can/could elect free agency.
  5. Buxton's not off limits for me, but I'd wait until the offseason when there are more interesting options than Sonny Gray to consider. Just not a fan. Chris Archer? deGrom? I'm listening on packages including Buxton.
  6. So you're saying Derek Fisher AND Francis Martes? Not bad.
  7. For what it's worth, if the Twins do sell I really don't think it will have a huge impact on the W/L record. Heck, it's possible the young guys will loosen up feeling less pressure to win now.
  8. Affair back on. If only every other senator could also start to consider how they will be viewed in the history books instead of only thinking about getting re-elected.
  9. Such a timely apology. Good thing they made the apology so very immediately or it might look like they were simply trying to manage the backlash.
  10. Clearly? Has the off season started already?
  11. I don't think the Twins have had any assets to sell, or were willing to sell any assets worth a meaningful return, since 2007.
  12. Lots of people are excited to flip vets for prospects; I too am quite curious as to who may go and who may come. However I hope everyone can recognize that it pains other folks to throw in the towel on the 2017 season regardless of how one sees the Twins odds at this point. It might be helpful if we treat whatever transpires more like a glass-half-full situation and not like a gigantic celebration. Just throwing it out there as the trade deadline is dividing us a bit even though the big picture is the same for us all: World Series trophies.
  13. He's a lefty with four good pitches, I'd guess the only reason he hasn't been given another shot at starting since Rookie League is because of his size. I wonder if the Twins will consider this. Not that I don't love his numbers as a reliever. I like this guy already. Also if memory serves, the trade of Chris Herrmann for Daniel Palka originally had us a bit perplexed because we didn't the Murphy/Hicks deal hadn't been publicly disclosed. The time the trade for Recker was perplexing because this one hadn't been leaked.
  14. Thanks Roaddog. Closing the thread to consolidate the conversation into the article. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/26927-article-john-ryan-murphy-traded-for-intriguing-lefty-reliever/
  15. Sounds good to me, have to love those numbers! Per his MLB bio: "Typically relievers don't have four quality pitches to use, but Moya does, allowing him to be effective against both righties and lefties and to pitch multiple innings. While his fastball grades out as average, it can play up because of deception and his ability to command it. His changeup is his best secondary pitch, but he can also use his slider as a weapon and will mix in a curveball as well." http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=ari He's only 6', but I wonder if the Twins brass might see if he can start. I'll take those numbers in any role though.
  16. Molitor's lineup card is confused by that throw.
  17. He should have pimped that Puig strikeout.
  18. I'd prefer the pitchers just go overboard showboating after striking him out.
  19. I heard the Twins were working with Rosario to switch from Black and Decker to Dewalt.
  20. Pickle reminds me an awful lot of Vanimal's girlfriend from Canada.
  21. My point was only that prior to the deadline, before we know what their record will be come July 31, we may start hearing rumors of the Twins selling, and only because the front office would be and should be covering all the bases. I bring it up as the Twins were "buyers" just two days ago and could still be at .500 after tonight. I mentioned it because I'm guessing a lot of people would be upset to hear rumors of selling even if it's good business to at least have a game plan for all scenarios.
  22. I'd guess after the last 18 months, he and his agent don't see him as average. And as much as I lament the lack of strikeouts, he probably isn't. I'm probably crazy, but I bet he can get 3/30 on the free agent market if he finishes the year the way he started it. Reliever prices really started trending upward lately. What he's doing now really isn't much different than what he was doing in Milwaukee in 2013-14. He's built up a bit of a track record excluding whatever the heck happened in 2015.
  23. There's always a window after the season where the team can negotiate before free agency opens. Not that he'd be worth it, but it would be at this time that the team can wield the threat of a qualifying offer as well, though with the change in the QO it's likely less threatening now.
  24. I think it all depends on how you believe Ervin Santana will perform next year. His peripheral numbers indicate he's a below average pitcher. I'm of the opinion that you could get a couple of young guys that can contribute in 2018 and make up for his loss and then some. Hey, I'd be interested if the Twins and Dodgers wanted to swap tonight's starters. I'd like Brock Stewart (plus something extra).
  25. The Twins could be 5.5 back of Cleveland and 4 back of the Wild Card after tonight then head to Oakland where their best two starters will be riding the pine. Just hypothetical, but if the Twins happen to be 49-54, you have to think they become sellers. However if they happen to be 49-54, that means there will be less than 24 hours until the trade deadline. Even if the FO is on the fence, I wouldn't be surprised if we start hearing rumors that the Twins are now considering selling, even if it's the FO doing their due diligence and getting their ducks in a row in case of a quick end of July collapse. Tonight is going to be a big game for Santana and the Twins.
