  1. Looks to me like the only fits for Dozier on contenders are with Milwaukee, Tampa and Arizona. And you have to squint real hard and tilt your head to see it with any of them. Angles to, but, ha, yeah they have noting to offer. I think the Twins just ran into bad luck, they have a really good 2B in what might turn out to be history's greatest era for 2B. Nearly every team has one. It would be really nice if the Twins would give Dozier some reps at 3B. Of course if they did it would be crystal clear what they were doing and fans probably wouldn't care for it much.
  2. The news isn't the same, and it hasn't changed for the better. It sadly has impacted people who can't or don't want to make their own conclusions, but largely there are still enough tell tale signs of conjecture, opinion and hyperbole that discerning readers/viewers can distinguish which parts are less than honest or relevant. People on this site don't appear to be too often fooled by the BS and you folks are the one's who still watch the traditional yet now subpar news. I don't know that CNN horseplay fools too many, because the people who tend to get fooled seem to be the ones who get all of their news from Facebook or Instagram. Or Fox News. It's people who don't have the inclination to invest much effort into knowing what's going on in the world. People who actually want to know, not just act like they know, are still raising the red flags. Take this thread for example.
  3. If Gee pitches for Rochester today, perhaps him. It seemed odd that he was sent down unless they wanted him to get work to be ready for a specific date.
  4. I'd also pick Romero and then let him learn in the pen if like most other pitchers, he isn't quite ready for the big stage. But I have a hard time seeing any of these guys jumping Aaron Slegers in the pecking order. Slegers has been the team's prototypical college-drafted good soldier. Unspectacular and probably does not have the stuff to be a MLB starter, he still shows good command and is of a more traditional age and level of Twins call ups.
  5. If the velocity drop is due to him still not 100% back from the oblique strain, and the velocity drop was a determining factor in his DFA, the DFA makes little sense. Oblique strains don't seem career threatening. I have to assume one if not both of those things are inaccurate then. It's just quite strange for a velocity drop this significant not to be injury related, and as far as I know he hasn't been on the DL other than for the oblique strain. We've seen similar velocity drops before with guys who continued to pitch, Hughes and Perkins come to mind, but even while pitching, they were clearly in need of medical rehabilitation. I wonder if he currently has a condition that he CAN pitch with but probably should have addresses. Labrum issues or TOS or something. Do guys get physicals upon promotions? The timing of the DFA after the promotion is also weird. Could something have turned up in a physical?
  6. Not to mention that even though people seem to like him for his groundball tendencies, his GB% is actually at a career low in 2017. Relievers can go belly up without notice and without much reason. Still need them however.
  7. If this country would ever find it's way to scale back it's continuous and world encompassing military operations, placing the men and women of our armed forces into law enforcement back home would probably alleviate a lot of problems. They are (I assume) typically better trained and much more experienced in tense situations involving groups of different ethnicities. I'd bet former historically, military personnel released from service in good standing tend to make good officers of the law.
  8. I always disagreed with Crash, I want my pitchers merciless and tyrannical. I'm cool with Mussolini on the mound.
  9. He's not that old! 1.273 OPS. I've seen enough, call him m up.
  10. Seems to me there have been a ton of empty seats at Target Field this year. It's not like tickets are scarce, I guess I don't see the issue unless I was the owner of Hubert's or something. On the other hand, the Twins have a lot of Puerto Rican players, so asking them to do it only makes sense. I'd be happy to give up a couple of games each year if the Twins became the unofficial team of Puerto Rico.
  11. While I agree, I'll probably wait more than one game to flip out.
  12. Wasn't Melotakis throwing harder than 89-90 spring training 2016? I thought he was in the mid-90s. If he lost velocity, I can't imagine it was a delayed reaction to TJ three years ago. Wasn't his most recent injury which kept him out of camp this spring an oblique issue?
  13. Holy cow, what are the odds?! That list matches my list of guys I've been in favor of DFA'ing this year!
  14. I'm siding with the victims in just about every one of these cases of police brutality and murder. But comments like this make it look like we're labeling all police the same. If we don't want them to stereotype and assume the worst about all minorities, we probably shouldn't do the same to them. If anything is ever going to get fixed, we're going to need the good officers to speak up and step up. And there are plenty of good officers.
  15. Agreed. And by making these jobs so thankless, you're almost certainly going to get only two types of people interested: The absolute best humanity has to offer. Those who feel the call to serve their communities outweighs the poor pay, the danger and the awful side effects that go with an impossible-to-please-everyone job. And Absolute scumbags who grow up dreaming of asserting authority, getting to initiate confrontations and openly carrying a firearm.
  16. Melotakis makes so little sense, he seems to have some value. He seems like a legit fit for this bullpen right now. Any chance the Twins have a trade in place but needed to make the move now to get guys called up?
  17. I'm not a great basketball mind, but don't you need at least one perimeter shooter in your starting five? It doesn't seem like a 10-12 minute per game bench guy is going to be taking enough threes to make a difference.
  18. I agree, pitchers should be able to jump easier than batters. And even if Polanco is scuffling, Escobar isn't. Escobar is doing the opposite of scuffling. Also, Polanco, Adrianza and Escobar are all out of options, so unless they carry four SS, calling up Gordon means cutting the cord on a decent player way too early.
  19. I'd like to hear that dirtbag argue that he acted because he was scared for his life, seeing as he had his weapon drawn and had to holster it so he could administer the beating with two hands. And a knee. Seriously, why do we need all these traffic stops? We have the technology to read license plates which would be tied to the registrants address and phone number. Most citations can be issued electronically and safely with no interactions along with the digital recording from the dash cam showing the offense. Hell, the cop could even pull a guy over and call his freakin' cell phone to discuss the violation. Stay in the car! Unless these uber-aggressive alpha-male types actually LIKE confrontation and exerting their authority. Surely it can't be that.
  20. Just looking at scouting reports, Carlson certainly would have interested me. But with how our teams and fans cling to our local guys, I've actually started to go the other way on them. I'd rather the Twins get guys they can be completely objective about. There are always questions about whether there are off field benefits when decisions are made about local guys. Not that the team would necessarily act on ulterior motives.
  21. In my recollection, Hunter had ambitions to be a front office guy. If he can get Buxton to approach his potential, his calling should probably be on the field. And I had little interest in bringing back all the old players. I'll gladly eat my words if they prove to be more than the figureheads I kind of thought they might be.
  22. Three more starts? No one's keeping a guy with a 10-1 record out of the All Star game!
  23. Granite strikes me as one of those players who everyone will like right away but then loses favor after an extended slump reveals he's a one trick pony. Slap hitting singles players are no longer en vogue. However the trend in baseball these days is to revamp one's swing to get lift. I don't think any of us know if he's amenable to a different approach should he get an earful from Jason Castro. Or if he's physically capable of a new approach. My money is on that he wouldn't or couldn't change but who knows.
  24. We have almost month to go and pitchers are the last to get weighed in as they aren't voted on. Thus I'm predicting it's Berrios not Santana, based on the way they're currently trending. Though it would probably be the other way around if Molitor gets to pick in based on his vet heavy preference.
  25. I meant to post here that I'm open to a Rosario replacement as soon as a clearly superior option presents itself, and to point out that Rosario falls to 17th if sorted by WAR on your list. But then I noticed a bit of a trend with those players; of those guys ahead of him, only Michael Conforto is younger. With the rest, there are a lot of guys in their late 20's and some into their 30's on that list and almost all of them toiled for a few years and were late bloomers, coming into their own at or after Rosario's age. Aaron Hicks, Marcell Ozuna, Aaron Alther, Cameron Maybin, Khris Davis, Adam Duvall, Michael Brantley, Melky Cabrera, Eduardo Nunez, Hernan Perez and Alex Gordon. It's like a who's-who of guys who were relatively well regarded prospects but took several years for it to click. Also, nearly every guy on that list is a negative defensively. There also isn't any real superstars in LF anymore.
