  1. I'd think guys who throw 95+ typically have potential to be an ace. Not that they necessarily will become one but there is potential.
  2. I agree, the savings would have to be so great that the Twins will have enough money with their next pick to put a guy in their pocket who is ready to say no to every other team if they don't meet his demands. It can't be a "roll the dice" kind of situation, the game has to be rigged in the Twins favor to do this, and I don't think the math makes it possible to do that any more. Though there are several guys I'd prefer to McKay who might just happen to go under slot simply because McKay has the helium.
  3. There's no such thing as a surest thing when it comes to baseball players and there is no way that a guy with a low 90's FB in college could ever be considered a sure thing, with low velocity there is basically no margin for error. I'm not taking the guy closest to the majors if there are other players who have significantly higher ceilings. Been there done that with this team to awful results. Even without a past bitter taste in my mouth from the phrase "close to the majors" I wouldn't pass up guys with much higher ceilings. I'd still take Greene, but as I said if the team is uncomfortable with a 17-year-old, I'd still be happy with Wright. Or even a handful of other guys. I still think McKay has lots of helium due to being a pitcher or a batter which is silly since he's only going to do one.
  4. Want me to delete some for you so you can try again at post number 10,000? Only about 50 or so were any good anyway.
  5. I would have preferred a voting option somewhere between the first two: 'He'll be OK, nothing great, but improve quickly and be good by the end of the year.'
  6. Wouldn't these guys or anyone else tied to Russia have destroyed all evidence long ago? Who in their right mind would still have incriminating evidence of treason when everyone on the planet is aware that the FBI has been investigating for months?
  7. I'm just wondering why he's warning Comey if there actually are tapes. If Comey was going to lie about something, wouldn't it be best to let him lie and then whip out the tapes to discredit him entirely?
  8. Edited the title as it shows up on the home page and may cause confusion with the baseball draft threads.
  9. If the Twins were going to be below average in anything, it should be this.
  10. Price and Strasburg were concensus top picks though, there was little doubt about who was the top player in those drafts. The only reason Cole didn't stand out was because lots of people thought his teammate Trevor Bauer was better. Maybe it's just me but McKay has the same kind of blasé ambiguity of the Bullinger and Hochaver drafts. Not saying he'll be that bad, but if anyone thought he was in the Price and Strasburg tier of prospects no one would be having a debate right now.
  11. I'd like to see Greene miss more bats, but Wimmers and Gibson struck out a lot of guys in college and pretty much everyone pre-draft said their stuff wasn't going to miss too many in the majors however they had good command to make up for it. I haven't read anything (though I probably haven't read enough) to indicate that most people think McKay will be a strikeout per inning kind of guy. I'm just really, really struggling with the velocity. I'll compromise, if Greene's too risky for the front office to stomach because he's a 17-year-old high schooler I'll take Wright.
  12. I don't disagree that you can find good "command" type guys, perhaps even more of them than the "stuff" guys. But I'm going to be extremely disappointed if the guy we get at 1:1 is akin to one of the control guys you listed. The fact that Nola, Finnigan and Wacha are the success stories from the "command" legion should throw up huge red flags, none of them are worthy of the first overall pick.
  13. That's what I'm afraid of. We heard about how great Gibson, Wimmers and Eades command were and how safe they were. Jay also. We've repeatedly seen in our own organization that good command/control in college does not make a guy safe. When it comes to a balance of "Stuff" vs "Command/Control", I'm putting more weight on "Stuff". At 1:1 I just don't want a guy who's defining trait is good command. Despite the assumptions and perceptions it just does not appear to actually raise a pitcher's floor. So give me the guy with a projected higher ceiling.
  14. What's happened to Bukauskas, is he still shrinking or something? I'm not hearing much about him anymore. I don't want him at 1:1 but I'm starting to get desperate; I'm really feeling like I want anyone but McKay at this point. It just feels like such a classic Twins pick even if that's perception and not reality anymore; 90-93MPH control specialist. Guys that top out at 94 MPH just don't seem like they should be going 1:1. He just feels so much closer to guys like Wimmers, Eades and Gibson than to the best player in the draft. I'm probably wrong but this just doesn't feel right.
  15. If players were capable of making adjustments to the degree that they can completely fix their flaws everyone would hit like Ted Williams.
  16. Good recommendation, I stayed up too late last night and finished this show. I thought it was really good. It was hilariously absurd at times yet it felt much more true to life in terms of what a spy might actually do compared to the action packed Bond and Bourne stuff. It was a strong cohesive story with lots of humor and tension. I'm also a sucker for characters with moral ambiguity and that basically describes every character in the show here. Michael Dorman, the actor playing the main character was really good. I hadn't heard of him before, but I'd guess we'll see him in bigger projects soon. He nailed that role.
  17. If Torii Hunter has truly been able to help Buxton his hiring was well worth it. I was lukewarm at best when it came to re-hiring the former players for the record. I'll be thrilled to be wrong if this works out. I thought Hunter's ambitions lied more in front office work. I wonder if the club sees more value in him working with players in some capacity now.
  18. No it would be more fair to the entire community to enforce the posting policies when it comes to steering conversations off topic, thread jacking and inserting pet topics into every post. It wouldn't make sense to make an exception for one poster just because it's fun for him or her to do so.
  19. No because it's going to end with the last out of game 7 of the World Series when Hunter Greene of the Twins blows a heater by some poor Cub with such velocity that it splits the planet in two. Going out on top baby! Bummer we'll miss the parade though.
  20. It's fun for you, not everyone else. We get lot's of complaints about your shtick.
  21. No, contain your Hicks' posts to your already created Hicks thread. It doesn't belong anywhere else.
  22. So if the front office doesn't pick the guy we want we get to get upset now. If they do pick the guy we want but he busts we get to get upset later? Seems like the only way they get a pass is if they pick the guy we want and it's the right decision.
  23. Mauer's contract was negotiated by the guy 2 GMs ago, I can't see that causing our new guy to be gun shy. These aren't the same men. And his contract was negotiated at that time because the guy 3 GMs ago (also 1 GM ago) WAS gun shy. Mauer should have been locked up at minimum 1 year earlier than he did and plenty of forward thinking GM's would have done it much, much earlier say about where Sano is at in his career now. If there's any lesson to be learned, it's the longer you wait the more you pay. Or get nothing at all.
  24. Well it didn't work out for the Twins when they traded for Delmon Young. On the other hand it DID work out for the Rays when they traded for Matt Garza. In the same trade. I'd say there isn't any definitive answer when it comes to trading for a change-of-scenery malcontent if he has talent. Not that I know if Harvey still has any.
  25. There will be pitchforks if they pick the wrong guy, that's why I propose everyone here picks their preferred player and lists him in their signature. We will then have Brock lock that feature so it will be stamped on our posts until the end of time (or the end of the internet, whichever comes first). Then upon the draft and every day henceforth if our player was not selected by the Twins and he is better than the guy the Twins did select, we may denounce the team for their inferior draft acumen. Everyone who picked an inferior player must keep their trap shut about the draft.
