  1. I'll wait a bit longer than the middle of May to decide if ego is the reason why Haley is still on the roster. I'm sure the new guys would prefer not to be wrong about their Rule V choice and perhaps that is why he has been kept instead of Terry Ryan's guys who have already been DFA'd. Or it could have been because they knew there was always the possibility that Tonkin and Santana may pass through waivers and be retained, where as there is next to no possibility of retaining Haley if they took action on him.
  2. Are these doom and gloom sentiments regarding Hughes a little premature? Shoulder injuries can be serious, but not all of them. I never wanted Hughes in the rotation to begin with, but this thread reads like an obituary. Is there anything else I'm missing besides the fact that his shoulder is stiff? I hope he's fine, and I also hope he heads to the pen or somewhere other than Minnesota's rotation, but this all sounds so morbid.
  3. Yeah, it's a really well preserved 1920's style Art Deco theater with classic curtains, lighting and balcony. In lieu of twenty minutes of adds prior to the movie there's an organist playing instead. I love going there, I feel sophisticated. I usually look the part too wearing my cargo shorts and a t-shirt, just like the socialites of yore did.
  4. Yeah, this is my biggest problem with Molitor. Even if the hypothetical options were Buxton or Sano standing on 1B, I'd bet at minimum, 95% of the time they'd be standing on the same base when the inning is over. Speed helps on the bases, but there are only a few plays a week that are determined by it. And even so, late in the game the managers and coaches almost always are conservative so as not to have the team run into the last out. If the play is going to be close, Buxton's almost certainly getting the stop sign anyway. The odds that the big bopper will come up again in extra innings is greater than the odds that the speed on the base path will pay off.
  5. They would need a deal in place going into the draft. They can't just hope/assume someone falls.
  6. It was at our independent theater which I walk by most days at work. I was interested in seeing it but it's just so rare that I get out to see something at the theater without the kids. Or is it available for home viewing now?
  7. He's add 2 MPH to the fastball, which seems pretty typical of the switch. It's still only 92MPH. Better than 90 though I guess.
  8. This is probably only Sullivan not realizing Vargas hasn't been up the entire year. He's only started 14 games; this is like the second week of April for him stats-wise. It's a SSS issue, he had on OPS of .925 just six games ago. Had that question been asked last week it would have gotten a different answer. Not that I'd expect Sullivan to have Twins stats memorized or anything. But I loved all the other Twins related chat questions today!
  9. Yeah, that about nailed the current situation.
  10. It feels like the team is getting screwed, but honestly, last year I only liked Gromme and Pint and I am more interested in both Greene and Wright than I was with either of those two.
  11. That delivery looks pretty violent. His follow through is so forceful he hops backward.
  12. He's got a rabbit's foot under there. It's working too.
  13. *****Moderator Note******* This has ceased to be baseball related and is being moved to the Sports Bar. That does not preclude this thread from being shut down if posts once again get out of hand.
  14. *****Moderator Note***** Anyone who wants to talk politics needs to take it to the sports bar. Frankly, no matter where you fall on LGBT rights I don't see how denouncing slurs of any type is a political hot button. Regardless, if anyone wants to know how Twins Daily feels about any kind of derogatory name-calling check the posting policies.
  15. It sounded sincere but yeah, could have been written by an agent. I guess if the incident causes him to change, the end result will be the same whether it was due to embarrassment, sincere regret or endorsement money. Coming from a guy who regretfully made way too many gay jokes back in the day, it wasn't all that hard of a habit to give up.
  16. From Jason Martinez' MLBTR chat yesterday: Michael from Minnesota 4:39 Who will make an all-star game appearance first - Byron Buxton or Jose Berrios? Jason Martinez 4:40 Both will make it for the 1st time in 2019. You heard it here first. Minimally substantiated optimism works for me today.
  17. I wish Sickles would say if he thinks the Twins take McKay because he's #1 on Sickles' board or because he just thinks that's who the Twins prefer.
  18. You're right in that I care about missing bats and not so much velocity, velocity just tends to be a large indicator and a contributing factor, but not always. I don't think a 91 MPH fastball is going to miss too many bats at the MLB level though, I'd think he'd be a pretty high contact kind of guy.
  19. I wonder if it has something to do with the unintended organizational reinforcement of traditional Minnesota even-keeled temperament? Buxton and Berrios really appear to be humble and quite young men. I'm sure many of us come from a Midwestern family that worries about meeting others' expectations; we know that can be hard and cause a burden. With their restrained and quite demeanors, they appear like they might be cut from the same cloth as many of the same people that fill the stands at Target Field. Sano, Polanco and Vargas? Those guys always look like they're having a good time. I know the coach telling the kids to "Just go out there and have fun!" is a Little League cliché, but I don't know that it makes it any less beneficial.
  20. I'd be more than happy if James Comey ends up being talked about in history books with guys like Woodward and Bernstein and Elliot Ness.
  21. If a team was willing to let them do both I'd find value. If it's the old fashioned way where they do one for 6 years, struggle and then transition to the other then I'd think all the service time lost kills the value.
  22. Yeah, I'd say the record is still up in the air, mostly because they still have over 60 games left against mostly terrible AL Central teams. The Twins (or the Tigers or White Sox or Royals) could end up with a pretty nice record simply because the other teams are so very awful. I too miss May. I was really looking forward to seeing him in the rotation again.
  23. Seems like the Mike stuff might get overtaken by the Gus stuff in terms of what is the secondary storylines. Those two are going to merge quickly I'm sure, but in BB Mike had far less screen time than Gus until, well Face Off. I wonder if that will happen here as well. Gus' will be dealing with the cartel, I don't know what else Mike would be doing except also dealing with the cartel.
  24. I don't know how to type how happy this makes me feel without it sounding either sappy or sarcastic. Such welcomed news.
  25. Though I was particularly partial to the film because my seven-year-old wanted to go and I was thrilled to take him to something that wasn't a cartoon. I was a proud daddy when the biggest laugh in the whole theater came from my son when the characters made jokes about putting turds in each other's pillows. His teacher at school this week will surely be less impressed.
