    Yeah, there seems to be a lot more flexibility with the 3-4, and it's not like anyone thought they could make one of the leagues worst 4-3 defenses into a competent 3-4 defense in one year. Being terrible was always expected. ****That was not an endorsement to keep Donatell, he has to go, as they should have been bad, but not THAT bad***** I'm not sure I want Wes Phillips here either though. The offense should have been way more consistent. Still not yet answered, why was this team successful on like 1 out of 100 screen, swing and dump off passes around the LOS this year? How did those fail at such an outstanding rate? Those are staples of all decent offenses yet I bet if there's a way to measure their success, the Vikings were patrolling near historic ineptitude levels.

    I'd do it. Not because of any Shane Mack comps or because of his prior prospect rankings, but because the Angels are one of those teams that don't seem to do ANYTHING right anymore. So, I'd give him a shot to see if the Angels just messed up. But zero interest in more 'veteran' bats. This team needs to start filling the 26-man with players who both have potential, and the potential to be here long term.

    If this team blows another high pick on a DB, I'll probably lose my mind. It's not that the team doesn't need DBs, but that's one of the few positions where there's little difference between a high round pick and a mid round pick. And the Vikings are the LAST team that should think it matters. They've proven unable to tell the difference between a defensive back and a bag of donuts through two regimes now. They need pass rushers more anyway.

    I was in favor of firing Spielman, but it made zero sense to do it when the new GM either opted, or was told to keep all of Spielman's guys. Anyone in that building who thinks they can improve off of last year is delusional though; they HAVE to start making the tough decisions to get rid of the old, slow expensive players.

    They could do some of those, but there's only one player this team needs to figure out how to work an extension, and it's not those guys.

    Yeah, Pittsburgh has the worst ownership in the league. It's nice the McCutchen got to go where he wanted. It's an absolute travesty that ownership never put an effort into actually being a contender when he was in his prime and the team was competitive. They made the playoffs each year from 2013-15. They ranked 20th, 27th and 25th in payrolls those years. Makes no sense why the other owners allow Pittsburgh to share revenue when they refuse to use it on their payroll.

    Frankie Montas is only a good pitcher when the Twins visit Oakland. He ranges from average to terrible everywhere else. Lou Travino was the best pitcher the Yankees got in that deal.

    The only comparable prospect the Twins had to Chisholm was Royce Lewis, and after only 7 MLB starts, trading Lewis for Gallen would have been crazy. Now, trading for Gallen would probably be crazy because if the Twins trade for another guy with a damaged UCL, they'd get eaten alive.

    Ugh, this seems like it's going to be a long upcoming season. No draft picks, no cap room, a team that is old as dirt and the last two drafts may have been the worst in team history. Who are the building blocks? Anyone other than Jefferson, Darrisaw and O'Neill? 2022 was a fun year overall, but I think we're in for a pretty rough stretch now.

    The logjam isn’t great because the vets Kepler and Gallo have been unproductive recently, and the young guys are unproven. But I’d take unproven over unproductive so I’d trade Kepler AND one of the young guys for pitching. Likely in separate deals unless the buyer wants two LH OFs.

    No. That’s why if they insist on another RH outfielder, it should be a bench bat, not a starter.

    The right handed options aren’t very attractive, I’d rather go with the left handed young players. If they really want another righty, it should be a bench guy. Not a guy who is on his last legs but will be expected to start. They have to start finding room for the young bats, it shouldn’t only be Miranda.

    I’m not thrilled that the team seems deadset on filling the outfield with aging and/or declining vets.

    I feel bad being so frank, but Randy Dobnak was less much talented and had no upside.

    This is a pretty solid low risk gamble. Well done. With the extra year, and with him being dirt cheap in 2024, there should be no imperative to let him step on the field this year.

    I really want to Moran to end up being a homegrown bullpen staple, but we so rarely see the guys with control issues turn it around. By "we", I mean Twins fans, maybe other teams have more success than we do.

    If Larnach or Kirlloff can't stay on the field, why does Kepler need to be the answer? There surely will be more Kyle Garicks and Jake Caves available on the cheap. They can hit just as poorly as Kepler but cost 10M less.

    I don’t want Lopez, I want the other pitchers. But I’d trade Kepler for about any useful pitcher so if the other pieces the Twins send aren’t too important, I guess go ahead and get him. Hopefully the Twins saying they don’t want to trade Arraez is their initial ploy to pivot talks from Lopez to the other arms.

    I think trading Gray would be too delicate for the team to actually follow through. They just built a bunch of good will with the team and the fans by signing Correa. They know they'll be putting themselves back in the crosshairs if they moved their best pitcher. Gray seems more likely to move at the trade deadline should the Twins not be performing.

    I've been saying all week the the Marlins likely have no interest in Kepler, but I suppose if they are working a deal with the Twins for pitching, a Kepler for Soler swap as a side part of the deal may make sense. Soler's righthanded and Kepler is cheaper.

    ******Moderator Note****** The other Bauer thread was locked, this one will be too if the posts don't stay on topic. Those posters that don't want Bauer have valid and clearly justifiable reasons,. If you want to stump for the Twins signing Bauer, do not do so by attacking, judging or accusing those posters, casting aspersions on victims or promoting boys-will-be-boys behaviors. Stump for him with his baseball stats, or don't do it at all.

    I've actually got higher hopes for Julian than I do Martin. That's more of an endorsement of Julian than a knock on Martin, but Martin does earn some knocks at this point. In any case, I think you move Arraez ASAP while his value is still at his peak.

    The Twins best bullpen moves the last two years haven't been the high profile trades, they've have been turning the fringy minor league starters into reliable relievers. I'd give Winder, Henriquez and Sands, and maybe even Varland, SWR and Balazovic the first looks at earning a bullpen spot. I'd be more interested in them than Megill, Moran and Pagan.

    That and the requirement of an annual physical. It’s almost like they wanted him to say no.

    The Twins AAV has ALWAYS been the highest offer. The Mets and Giants just won him over in the years. Now that they have injury concerns, the Mets had to back off the years. In any case, both this year and last, the Twins, and their unusually ample near term salary space, have consistently been the team most interested in a high AAV short(er) term deal.
