Allegations and the PR nightmare he'd bring aside, I'm not sure where this "good clubhouse guy" stuff comes from. The word has always been - going back to UCLA - that he is very much the opposite of that. There was the throwing the ball over the centerfield wall incident, I'd forgotten that he injured himself with a drone before a playoff game, he and Cole wanted to kill each other at UCLA, he's relentlessly trolls people on social media that mention they don't like him, and if you watch any of his YouTube videos it becomes apparently obvious that Trevor cares only about Trevor. Here's a piece from Medium: https://medium.com/@cwhughes07/trevor-bauer-crybaby-selfish-clubhouse-cancer-and-extremely-overrated-37ff960366fd Here's a fun one from NBC Sports during his Cleveland years: https://www.nbcsports.com/mlb/news/trevor-bauer-is-brutally-honest-sometimes-just-brutal And another from the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/feb/21/why-on-earth-is-climate-skeptic-twitter-troll-trevor-bauer-mlb-most-hated-man And another: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/2645021/2021/06/14/why-do-those-two-clash-inside-the-legendary-gerrit-cole-trevor-bauer-rivalry-at-ucla/ And another: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/05/24/trevor-bauer-gerrit-cole-ucla-dont-like-each-other/640362002/ The road seems to be littered with stories about how Trevor Bauer has a negative impact on the teams and people around him. I think the biggest thing this Twins team has going for them is their chemistry - I don't think it's enough to get beyond the first round (if they even make the playoffs), but why risk it for a guy that's proven time and again to care only about himself?

Good to see the young guy with the pedigree get the call, but I'm guessing that means it's not so great news for the state of Lewis' groin. If it was a short-term thing, it feels like it would've been someone already on the 40-man.

Simeon Woods Richardson is Chasing Down Marty Cordova
jud6312 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like what I've "seen" (thanks Bally's, Comcast, Twins, and MLB) from SWR so far, but I think we're a ways from serious ROY conversation - sports books I've looked at don't even have him as the Twins rookie with the best betting odds (those go to Brooks Lee at, like, +15,000). In addition to Gil, you've got Wilyer Abreu playing well for another high profile team. You've got Mason Miller, whose pitches are the things that MLB's social media team feasts upon (and his results are pretty darn good). Then you've got Langford, who's starting to show signs of life. Cowser and Kjerstad as high-end talents that could turn things on between now and the end of the season, same with Holliday if he gets recalled. I won't rule SWR out, but there's a lot more for him to overcome than just Luis Gil. We really should, however, rue the day he was traded for Cave though like we do with some of the team's other bad trades.- 35 replies

Hard pass on reuniting with the two Twins legends. Same on Chafin, unless the give is ridiculously low. Like, lower than Sawyer Gipson-Long when he was traded to Detroit for Michael Fulmer low. If they're going to be an actual contender and not just contend for the Central Division, they need something more impactful than a middle relief reclamation project. Since I doubt ownership will sign off on that (and given the recent in-season trades this FO has made), I'd prefer to get guys like Stewart, Topa, and Canterino(?) healthy and lean on "it's just like making a trade."

They won't solve problems, but they'd fit in with the rest of the pen.

Twins Bring “Ripple Effect” With City Connect Uniforms
jud6312 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not a fan, but I think all of the city connect stuff has been horrible. -
So Lee, Festa, Raya, Soto, and Martin? I'm sure the Marlins would love that, but this FO would need to be dismissed if they traded five of their top 15 prospects for a guy who's had two good seasons.

I think we should all be on board with baseball moving to 100% streaming just to see how the older generations respond. Remember how the "old folks" lost their minds when WCCO lost the radio broadcast rights for a while? That alone should make everyone want to cut the cords ... I mean, aside from paying for a service that was state of the art 40+ years ago, but now forces you to (over)pay for 75 channels you don't watch so you have access to the 5 channels you do watch.

The TV issue is annoying and I'm pretty unhappy about not being able to watch any games this summer, but it's the timing that's really bad. Last year? Annoying, but I could have at least turned on the radio and listened to Provus. This year? I would rather rip my own ears off, set them ablaze, and present them as a fiery offering to Joe Pohlad than listen to Kris Atteberry for a single inning, much less an entire summer. I guess I become a "box score fan" and call it a day.

Game Thread: Twins (Ober) @ Tigers (Flaherty), 4/14 @ 12:40pm CT

Was that the year he made two errors on the same play? (Or at least could've been charged for two.) -

Can Randy Dobnak Resurrect His Career in 2024?
jud6312 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Dobnak takes the mound in a meaningful game for the Twins this year, things have gone horribly, horribly wrong. And if he gets an extended run in meaningless games, it likely means things went even worse. He's a "fun" story, and good on him for securing financial security, but he caught lightning in a bottle for a brief stretch 5 years ago, and the results since then have ranged from a floor of "awful" to a ceiling of "meh." -
Can Randy Dobnak Resurrect His Career in 2024?
jud6312 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It appears Bobby Witt Jr. is going to be a great player and make KC a better team for the next 11 years. Winning. That's a great baseball story. From Uber to Target Field, a lefty reliever making a comeback, and an aging player making his first Opening Day roster is feel good stuff that gets wedged into the news between the anchors signing off and the credits rolling ... they're basically Twiggy, the waterskiing squirrel from "Anchorman." -

YES! I've been saying this for years. If the fans, the press, and the bloggers continue settling for and celebrating mediocrity, why should ownership/the FO strive for anything more? People will continue enjoying outdoor baseball and spending money on tickets, food, parking, and souvenirs as long as they field a team that competes with the rest of the teams in the Central. Throw in a playoff win once every couple of decades and call it a day.
