  1. Isn't the argument here that Dobnak/whoever is in this spot pitches mop up duty to save the pen for another day? That indicates to me that the game is over - you can't lose a game that's already lost. Even if that's not the case and the person in this spot is pitching in winnable games, what has Dobnak done in the last four years to instill any shred of confidence in his ability to help this team win games? He's been awful with average defense behind him - he's now got Correa and the cast of the Bad News Bears trying to field grounders behind him.
  2. 1) It's not necessarily about "keeping Castellano," but everyone seems to be obsessed with his arm and his stuff. Why not see if he's anywhere close in actual game settings? And they wouldn't have to give anything up to do so 2) For a couple weeks in mop up duty they could've survived. Chances are if Dobber is getting in there, the game is over. Could it be any more over with someone else mopping up? 3) I'll take the 4-year track record of not being an MLB caliber arm over 6 ST innings. Castellano was a starter, could also give bulk innings.
  3. On the surface it's small. But in reality it's just another instance of this front office refusing to admit mistakes. They need mop up innings? Castellano wasn't ready to start anyway. Why not give him a shot for a couple extra weeks to see if there's anything there against big league hitters? We already know there's very little there with Dobnak. Either way, they're cutting someone loose in a few weeks as guys get healthy. Why not look at the guy with more upside than "easily disposable?"
  4. This front office's obsession with recouping any sort of value from that awful contract extension is mind boggling. Accept the fact you made a terrible business decision and MOVE ON.
  5. What an absolute joke that Dobnak made this team. The guy got shipped out with the rest of the minor leaguers weeks ago. Glad I didn't sign up for Twins TV yet. If you're wasting a roster spot to start the season, why not do it with the young kid with the live arm? If he doesn't work out, you Dobnak him when someone comes off the IL. If he does, you have a good problem of too many good arms. I'll take upside over feeling the need to get any return on a horrible contract 100% of the time.
  6. It's nice to see some new potential bangers on this site for a change. Sure, "Healthy Buxton is an MVP Candidate" is a jam, but "Brock is Elite if his Arm Doesn't Fall Off Again" has serious potential.
  7. I keep reading comments about depth, depth, depth. If your depth is an oft-injured, statistically ineffective veteran, is it really depth? Paddack-level pitchers are a dime a dozen. The guy is never healthy and ERA+ indicated he's been below league average for the last five seasons. Why does anyone think 2020-2024 were the anomalies, when it's pretty clear that 2019 was? I'd have no issue with him being in the rotation if he earns it, but those last two spots should go to the pitchers that earn it in spring training rather than have it based on how large of a contract they tricked a front office into giving them.
  8. To be fair, he has virtually no experience as a starter either. At least not as one that has had recent or sustained success.
  9. I'm expecting nothing (again) from Topa. I'm expecting 15-20 good innings from Stewart before he finds himself back on IL Island, where it seems he owns a timeshare.
  10. Honestly, I wish he'd break camp with the team - DH to start, 2B or wherever needed once his arm is fully ready. Heck, I'd even take him at 1B over France.
  11. I really hope Paddack isn't a "lock." If he wins the spot, great. But it should be Lopez, Ober, and Ryan as the only "locks," and then Paddack, SWR, Festa, Zebby, etc. in competition for the last two spots. I'm tired of contract - and in Paddack's case, one that wouldn't be considered "large" by a majority of teams in MLB - dictating a player's worthiness for this team. If you want to field a competitive team, you have to have competition from within.
  12. Is there a "none of the above" button?
  13. The biggest battle for me is the rational me vs. the me that will buy the Twins.TV subscription thinking 2025 will turn out any differently than every year since 1991.
  14. Is it better to leave the bar with two 1s and a 3 at closing time, or the 5 they might've had if they'd opened their wallet a little earlier?
  15. Healthy Buxton is the new Healthy Mauer. Sure, it's real today, but we all know it's not gonna last.
  16. Agreed. Falvey is and should be the punching bag.
  17. I wouldn't have done this the same day you announce the new streaming service. But it's good to see Dumpster Divin' Derek keep his streak of offseason ineptitude going. He is the Lou Gehrig of signing washed up position players.
  18. Average? That's probably the nicest thing anyone's called Ty France since he lucked into an All-Star game in '22.
  19. Who can help as a right-handed hitting left fielder? France? The guy that's never played a major league inning in the outfield? Or Miranda - the other guy that's never played an inning in the outfield?
  20. Let's call this neverending parade of aging, midling CFers what they are - the "Buck tax." It's the price you pay when a focal point of your team (and payroll) is a guy that plays 60% of the games in a good year. Clearly, the front office either isn't yet sold on the young players they've acquired to do the job when (not if) Buck takes a mid-summer vacay(s), or they know they can't hack it and don't want the rest of the league to see it. So, you're stuck with drooping floor, blown out ceiling vets that provide the built-in excuse of "how were we supposed to know he would be this crappy this fast?"
  21. At least they did something? But honestly, I'd have preferred they just roll with a rookie from day one. Hopefully catch lightning in a bottle and get a PPI pick. Yes it's unlikely that Rodriguez or Keaschall would do well enough to win ROY, but it's probably just as likely for that to happen as Bader getting back to being a league average hitter.
  22. I was in Vegas last week and took the under on the 83.5 wins MGM has them on, so I'd certainly double down on 85.5.
