  1. I guess if I really had confidence in when they might make a serious breakthrough I might agree with you. My second reservation would be the longevity of a great SP 3-4 years from now. You would still have the money locked up hoping for a specific period of time hoping for the rest of the team to come together. Is the team really ready to overwhelm a pitcher just to have him in case? Would a pitcher take it with the Twins last 10 year history?
  2. I don't see this team seriously competing next year so trading for or signing a number 1 type pitcher doesn't make sense to me. I think you named the starters that will pitch for the Twins next year. Besides consistent starts the team needs consistent relief and a consistent daily lineup. This is definitly a rebuilding team and unless a miracle happens, wait I think I see a flock of pigs flying overhead.
  3. Good. The FO stated that they intended to build a long term perennially contending team. To constantly get good players out of the pipeline you have to shove good players in, or at least talented and hope several years later the results are there. To this end, not much was added in 2018 in terms of newly developed talent. But then the piepline was pretty empty at the upper levels. I don't expect the contending part of this to start taking place in 2019. Under the it's not my fault category. The core. Rosario and Berrios have been good this year. Not much else. MOY. I think this was a case of being between a rock and a hard place. I don't think you can let go of the current year MOY, so they were stuck with extending Moliter. I suspect they were intending to let Moliter go. My memory might be fuzzy, but it seemed like in Juy of 2017 that Moliter wouldn't make it to the end of the year. Without those 5 weeks of good baseball in 2017, the year would have looked a lot like 2018. Bad - The core of the team.Somehow the organization needs to have off season development programs in place to get the core to be as good and healthy as we hope they can be. Hope, as in relying too much on it without having individual history to support it.
  4. 1B, like every other position on the team with the possible exception of LF, is a position up for grabs in 2019. This is not a playoff team, as set, in 2019. I would offer Joe the position for 2019 if this was a playoff contender. They have done nothing this year to show that 2019 will be the year so why plan on Joe as the firstbaseman? He won't be there 2, 3 or 4 years from now when this team is more likely to be a playoff contender. So for next year why not start with Austin or someone else there? I would have liked Sano, Buxton, Polanco or Kepler to supprt their claim on a position, but for this year anyway only Rosario has laid claim to a position, be it Lf or Rf.
  5. I would look for Arreaz at second base next year.
  6. Luis Arreaz seems to be one of those guys overlooked by the fans. Next year he should at least start at Rochester and won't turn 22 until after the year starts. He finished hitting over 300 again with a 360 OBP. For his career he's at 329 with an obp over 380 and OPS at near 800. It doesn't look like he'll ever be a home run hitter or great base stealer. I could see him hitting second with his good obp and excellant contact as his career minor league strikeout rate is only 8.5% Maybe somebody for the big boppers to drive in. He seems to adjust quickly to each level he plays at and avoid prolonged slumps. As a second baseman he committed only 2 errors this year and played shortstop and thirdbase as well.
  7. Maybe, hopefully, it was time for us to win something from the Yankees. That wheel has to turn sometime, doesn't it?
  8. I'm for it. However, I would skip a couple of starts for both Berrios and Gibson into the schedule. Berrios especially has looked a little ragged recently. It wouldn't be the first time a starter got a rotation day off. You could also schedule a relief pitcher only day once a week or so. I would leave Hildenberger out of this and let him gets some rest.
  9. Reading this article made me look back 2 years ago when we dreamed of being on the verge of building a dominant bullpen from hard throwing minor league arms. That wave never arrived and we don't really seem to have a next wave of arms to build on. Hopefully Moya, Busenitz and McGill can be regular contributors next year. I am not sure anyone will confuse this group with those you've named above to be a totally dominant pen.
  10. I don't see any rookies being added to the everyday lineup the rest of the season barring several major injuries. Garver is as close as it comes to this and I hpe he starts 3 out 4 games or better at catcher the rest of the way. I would prefer to see rookie starting pitchers making 3 out of very 6 starts the rest of the seaon. I would also prefer to see more relief pitchers come up from the minors and prove their case one way or the other. If we can somehow play 500 ball with those stipulations then great. But don't play guys who won't be here next year just to play breakeven ball.
  11. I think Stewart looked pretty good. If we weren't playing for the World Series, I would have left him in longer. But, that's just me. It would be nice if the team could display just a touch of patience with young players.
  12. When Trevor May came into the game he had pitched 3 2/3 innings this year and only 20 innings since May 2016. To me he looked pretty good.
  13. I'm also not n a big hurry to pull him from his role as a starter and move him to the bullpen. He may wind up there and be dominant, but I leave him as a starter as long as possible.
  14. I thought about Wells but wasn't sure he had enough double A time yet.
  15. I might jump down to Chattanooga to look at a few pitchers. Vasquez for one, then Stashak for another. I also wonder how Poppen would do.
  16. Trade him. I believe the Twins original thought was to showcase him in the hopes of trading him.
  17. Let him stay a Rochester for the rest of their season. The Twins aren't going anywhere this season. When Rochester's season is over, bring him up. He needs all the playing time he can get this year.
  18. I hope the Twins find a way to acquire additional international money and spend more in that area.
  19. I can't say I'm too impressed with the overall records of the minors this year especially at the upper levels, but there have been some great performances by key individuals. This is probably more important to the Twins future than minor league won/loss records. I agree that Romero might be running out of steam. I was hoping to see him a bit more in Minnesota this year.
  20. With this SSS I would go with more psychological than development. A guy wants to prove something to his new team. He wants to prove something to his old team. His adrenaline is higher affecting his focus and energy. The teams he is facing don't have up to date reports on him (I put this last). Wait a month or more and see.
  21. Arraez seems to be figuring out AA with a 325 avg and 387 OBP with just 2 strikeouts in is last 10 games. To this point in his career he's not a slugger, but their should be a spot for a player who just hits at every level with a high on base percent and minimal strikeouts. Additionally he has committed just 2 errors at second base this year.
  22. Starters: Gibson, Berrios, Mejia, Romero, Odorizzi, Pineda, Gonsalvez, Little, Stewart, May, Thorpe(late in the season). Thats eleven. Should wind up with strong rotations in Rochester and Chattanooga as well becuase not all will start with the Twins. To me the 2019 goal should be to continue to work these guys into the rotation. A couple (Odorizzi and Pineda) probably won't be in the rotation past next years trade deadline. If Santana makes a good recovery by the end of August he could be included. With this group they have experience, youth and some youngish veterans in the mix. I don't think the Twins should sign any free agent starters. 2019 won't be the year that they are nearing the top of the hill. Hopefully they will start to serve notice to the top teams in the league. Free agent starters contracts are iffy at best because the pitchers usually have a lot of wear on them. Possibly, potentially, maybe, they might have 1 or 2 (good to elite) starters in their system rise to the top of the minors each year for the 4-5 years.
  23. I have a difficult time understanding this point of view. When I look at the Twins pitching roster, out of a normal 13 pitcher staff, I count Gibson, Berrios and Hildenberger. The rest I see as hopefuls, maybe's and place holders. So I see at least 10 spots that need filling with upgrades and dependables, plus just plain alot better's. Not ****ing the past couple years they have used from 25 to 35 pitchers per season. When I look at the regulars and bench players I see more of the same. I agree they could never keep that many on the 40 man roster, but if they couldn't make our 40 man roster how many could be traded for the roster upgrades we really need to challenge for titles. I also don't see this as a championship team with just a few holes to fill, I see this roster as needing definite upgrades at 15 positions or so to become a championship team. We are never going to get there by signing free agents so they have to come from an over producing farm system. My interpretation of surplus is having too much of something. When I look at this roster, I can't point to an area of the field where we have too much of smething.
  24. It's interesting to note that our top 3 prospects could all make the Twins roster before age 22 perhaps age 21. Then there are anoth 4 or 5 who could make the roster before they are 24/25. This should make for a very young roster by 2021 when Rosario, Sano, Buxton, Berrios & Kepler will be the senior members of the team at 27/28.
  25. Hopefully they won't waste any prospects attempting to fill a couple holes until they have nearly a complete TEAM that is really ready to challenge for a top slot in the league.
