  1. I think Slegers needs to be put in the Twins regular rotation for the rest of the year. Give him 6-8 starts and find out what you have. He has been succeeding at Triple A and he Twins need him to learn how to succeed and become a reliable major league starter for 2018 and forward. The Twins also need to find out if he is not a future probability at starter.
  2. As much as it might scare people Gibson has matched Santana' performance pretty closely in June and July. I definitely am not saying he has pitched good.
  3. Palacios looks like a guy with a great hit tool but needs more work on plate discipline. It's hard to find fault wit a guy hitting .395 over his last 10 games and .340 at Ft Myers. However, averaging a strikeout every 5 plate appearances and a walk every 28 makes it seems like at some point he is going to have a difficult adjustment period coming. Maybe at AA next year.
  4. Anybody at triple A except Garver, Curtis, Chargois, Busenitz.
  5. Maybe Santiago's not coming back? We are pretty sure Hughes isn't back this year.
  6. Does that mean in more than 40% of their games they given up over 6 runs per?
  7. FYI - TB actually has 3 more wins than the Twins at this point and are in the top wild card spot. I don't see them trading a pitcher at this point.
  8. Sometimes a pitcher is simply what his most recent record shows he is. Samardzija, Pelfry, Nolasco, Hughes etal. Do we really want to go back to this well. The Twins have never shown the ability to get the max out of a struggling pitcher. At least not in recent memory.
  9. Kintzler is a free agent after the season. Will the Twins resign him? I doubt it. It would be nice if 3 or 4 of their ace relief prospects were taking regular turns in the bullpen before the season ends. I don't see Kintzler's replacement in the pen now but then before Kintzler got the job I didn't see that happening.
  10. Part of our current bullpen situation appears to be usage related. It would be nice to have May, the Duffey from early in the year and Pressly from last year available. Tonkin even looked accceptable early last year, until Moliter continued to use him as a multi inning pitcher. Unfortunately, Rogers is beginning to look like an overuse candidate. Speaking of bullpen usage, in todays game Montgomery gave up 6 runs to the Twins in the second inning but was not removed. Then pitched 3 shutout innings(so far). A Twins starter would not have been allowed to do that. Maybe our starters can't, except for Santana.
  11. What's seems to be missed is that Rosario injured his throwing arm. I watched the game and think it was in May. I can understand the team not broadcasting it much. Last year after Rosario came back from Rochester in July, his BA was 305 with a 335 OBP and 812 slugging. I think he didn't want to go back down.
  12. Palacios has continued to hit the ball at Ft Myers through 21 games with a line of 341/372/424. His OPS is down about 125 points from Cedar Rapids with only 5 walks Since Ft Myers is not considered a hitters league that might be impacting his OPS numbers. His hitting numbers are all better than Gordans were at Ft Myers. Also he has comitted only 1 error in those 21 games with a RF factor of 3.81.Gordans RF factor at Ft Myers was 4.65. If Gordans range at shortstop is a question for some, what would Palacios future position be assuming he continues to hit as well and might be availabe late in 2018 early 2019? He played 40 games at third in 2014, but exclusively at shortstop since. Then again, if he continues to hit like this they will find a spot for him.
  13. I think I've seen this movie before. The Twins sneak into the playoffs in a weak division, then get their brains beat out. In the process give up hundreds of games with more talented prospects. Let Cleveland make the big move and give up some of their future. Makes future Cleveland weaker as a result. Trade Santana, Dozier or whomever we don't include past 2018. Bring up more prospects, not simply sign some wornout vets. Continue to build toward a real playoff contender. At the end of 2018 the only current Twins with contracts are Hughes, Park and Castro and I don't think Hughes or Park will be here. Then with a young, rising team and money, go after some heavy free agents from the 2018 class. The possibility of signing with a rising team might interest free agents more than a 1 and done situation on some other teams. It 2019 it looks like our division challengers will be Cleveland for maybe 1 more year and a building White Sox. Talk to the cluhouse and fans and tell them what your plans are. Nothing worse then leaving everyone in the dark. I think getting the core team on board for a good future will keep them interested.
  14. It's great to see the power/speed combo numbers from Jermaine Palacios, as well as all the other categories he pops up in. I would like to see a few more walks in his numbers as he gets closer. Next summer hopefully he and Arreaz will be the double play combo pounding the ball at Chattanooga, although since injured this year, it may take Arreaz a little longer to get there.
  15. I hope the team is and has been shopping players like Santana, Dozier et al. I also hope Falvey and Levine are too smart to shop Rosario like some on this website are constantly preaching.
  16. I'm probably overthinking this, but who would be the veteran presence should they go ahead and trade Santana?
  17. Obviously a full blown youth movement in the rotation.
  18. Hopefully by this point the new Twins management has implemented a separate and distinct development plan for each pitcher in the system. I doubt that has anything to do with the major league teams won/loss record. We have had years of abject failure by Twins coaching staff and management in the devlopment of pitcher after pitcher brought to the majors. We can go back 20 years and see articles by national writers on the Twins failures to develop major league pitchers. I don't care if the three mentioned, Romero, Gonsalves or Jorge make it this year, next spring, next summer or whenever as long as it looks like they have a chance to succeed once they get here. Going back and forth between the majors and the minors may be part of the process, but coming up and getting destroyed shouldn't be. If our coaching and management staff has a short lease anywhere its not this years won/ loss record or even next years, but the ability to bring developed pitchers to the big league team who are ready to compete.
  19. Last year was Wander's first year. He got 30 plate appearances in the DSL, then was injured the rest of the year.
  20. When you hear 2nd round pick but number 85 rated draft prospect you think of this as a real reach albeit one that "helped" you get more bang on other draft choices. When you see second year of pitching and number 85 rated draft prospect you suddenly see a lot more ceiling.( rating by Baseball America draft preview)
  21. Twins standard 8 man bullpen choices (no particular order) Preferred (uh)- Kinzler, Rogers, Duffy, Boshers, Busenitz, Hildenberger Others (uhg) - Breslow, Belisle, Hughes, ?, ?, ?, Pressly, Tonkin Future (YEA) (2018 hopefully)- Rogers, Duffy, Busenitz, Hildenberger, May, Jay, Chargois, Burdi, Reed, Bard, Curtiss, More future than present. With our starters I don't see how Moliter won't burn out the reliable pen members this year. I don't see A trade for A relief pitcher making a sizable difference over the remaining 85 games this year. More likely a pickup of non injured arms.
  22. It looks like Hughes will get a shot this week and Pressly should get another shot next month. We don't know about Hughes, but when not over used Pressly was very good last year. By August maybe Curtiss and Reed can join the shuttle. Haley has also thrown an inning at Rookie Ball and will have to be dealt with. Besides Busenitz (who threw a no hit no walk inning last night) and Hildenbgerer still working in, we have 5 possible internal options for bullpen help. There are a couple of posibilities at Double A. The team has improved this year by giving internal options opportunities, I prefer this path as it still provides the most long term benefits. Hopefully by sometime next year we will add Jay, May, Chargois and Burdi to this group.
  23. Berrios, who probably came with more hype and talent(?) then the three listed here, made 36 starts over parts of 4 seasons at Triple A. His struggles at the major league level are fresh enough that it should give one pause at the thought of promoting directly form Double A. I am more long term development than many who post here but I could see bringing up all three in September after the minor league seasons ends. The purpose would be to help get over the jitters and not for any expectations of a major role on the team this year. Throw a couple innings out of the bullpen, evaluate and see what they need to work on more next year at Triple A. Usually command. since they all seem to have the stuff to make it. I believe next years rotation starts with Santana (unless traded) Berrios and Mejia. I think they will need at least 5 more starters to get through 2018 which should include Jorge, Gonzalves and Romero at some point earning their stripes.
