Every year the Twins take a hitter early in the draft I believe has zero chance to make it (for more than a cup of coffee). There should be zero of these guys, btw, that are as easily identifiable as Cavaco, Miller, DeBarge, Amick. They didn't disappoint in 2026, where my initial comment was brutal about Carson Tinney. Really not sure what they're doing. A second-round pick, he should be at low A only because it's where the team facilities are, and he should only be there for a couple of weeks prior to moving to A+. Instead, he's 0-5 with 3 K vs this "lesser" competition. I'm nobody, and I saw this coming. Sean Johnson is the ass't GM and does something like this every year. What? Too small a sample size? Not worried. Tinney has a rock solid Bayesian prior that says this is what he'll do. There would be some hope if the Twins had a developmental staff that could help hitters, but we've seen zero evidence of that. (Excepting the improvement at the major league level this year) If anybody is following the White Sox, what their development team is doing these days is incredible, and this took only a couple years to get results that are getting formerly flawed prospects to the majors...and succeeding there.

This is going to be a trade the Twins regret. Reyes is right now #12 according to BA, and he's shooting up. I personally don't know that he'll be a good MLBer, but I'm pretty sure he'll be highly ranked and could get a lot more than Kremer in the future. Reyes' issue, as always, is a K rate that is borderline, but he's early, and things could click in a big way with him, given his other skills. For me he's a top 10 prospect in the Twins system, but the variance is high, and I wouldn't be looking at his slash line to determine whether he advances or dips. His whole future depends on his K rate (like everyone else). This is a bad trade, regardless of Reyes' outcome. Twins get a worse version of JA Happ.

In all fairness, when the Twins traded Varland, they had given up on the 2026 and probably the 2027 seasons. Getting a serviceable bat and good prospect starter made some sense. A lot is true in retrospect. I personally thought the Twins would be wasting Varland. Now that doesn't mean they had to trade him then. They could have waited until they were out of it this year, which they should have been by now. Still not sure how they're in it, other than the AL was bad for so long.

Well, Minter could be horrible, and it would still be worth it to have this board stop considering Billy Amick a top 20 prospect.

If you could add Amick's power and health to Agbayani, you'd have a monster prospect. Glad to be rid of Amick, as I absolutely hated the pick, and he showed exactly what I thought. Next up, DeBarge, please. Then Quentin Young. Perhaps Marek Houston.

Note that it's one guy, and he is the sort who will double down on anything he says, and a lot of what he says is in part to make The Athletic stand out as different. Basically, he stopped liking Cholowsky as much, went with the next best college hitter in his mind, and, if you know him, will now never back down. Combine that with having to put Cholowsky high in the rankings (because he's almost ready now and is good), and it's not the glowing article title it seems.

My guess is that mid-November, early December, and January are the only real options for major leaguers. Even minor-leaguers like Randy Dobnak have to be careful.

You suggest a trade for Walker then pretty much lay out why that would be a bad idea. And at 20 million, to boot. The way you describe it is pretty much how I've seen Twins make trades through the years: Ignore all the bad and focus on a name or someone hitting HRs in a small park or against the Twins.

The Twins constantly make the wrong decisions. If this "buying" means they don't trade Jeffers and Larnach, especially Jeffers, then it's good to know they haven't changed.

Twins have three prospect hitters and only one sure thing (Jenkins). Along with Quick, that's the farm system.

Yes, Kilby would not have been available at all prior to last month. Now he's only mostly not available.

Anthony Eyanson isn't going anywhere for a guy like Jeffers. At least not the Eyanson we saw early in the year. If the Red Sox did make that trade, it would be a red flag on the pitcher.

That's because Houston isn't remotely a lock. The people you're reading are wrong. He's always been a lock for a cup of coffee or defensive replacement. I've thought his chances to hit decently in MLB are remote. The rankings are full of mistakes (Rodriguez) and questions (Culpepper) and they are missing a number of players who don't have what they perceive as big upside or who haven't found that pitch, yet. Ranking are full of high "upsides" without the understanding of what upside really is or whether it's definable.

I pray, pray, pray you don't think these two are anywhere close in value. I can't even imagine using the two names in the same sentence, unless the sentence is "Kaelen Culpepper doesn't belong in the same sentence as Walker Jenkins."

I'm not even a Culpepper fan, but no, Houston does not make Culpepper available. I would be thrilled, however, if the Twins made Houston available. That would be a trade that would be hard to lose. Twins just need to be very careful. They need to trade Jeffers, and they need to get value for him, not near-term value, but the best value they can get.

Clemens has three years of team control left after this year. You consider that short-term value? He'll be a young 33 in that last year, but that seems a decent transition player for the Twins. Plus, 2B is open. Trade Larnach, sure, but exactly what will you get? The return will be so little it won't matter because you could figure out another way to get that exact return without trading your 2nd best lefty stick. Same goes for Josh Bell. The biggest reason to trade these two if the Twins were clearly out of it is to open space for Jenkins, not really to get good future value (because they won't).

There is no world where I'd be afraid to give up Tait, Rodriguez, and CJ Culpepper. You'd, of course, want to take care of multiple needs, like a reliever as well as a starter. I'm not sure Detmers is the man. He's given up 5 ERs in 3 of his last 5 starts. And his overall track record isn't great. I could see him turn into a pumpkins. But the idea of sliding overrated prospects and CJC past someone is a fun one. My guess is that no team (maybe except the Angels) is bad enough to think EmRod will be anything. Why are we talking Sonny Gray when Boston is ahead of us?
