    Yes, Kilby would not have been available at all prior to last month. Now he's only mostly not available.

    Anthony Eyanson isn't going anywhere for a guy like Jeffers. At least not the Eyanson we saw early in the year. If the Red Sox did make that trade, it would be a red flag on the pitcher.

    That's because Houston isn't remotely a lock. The people you're reading are wrong. He's always been a lock for a cup of coffee or defensive replacement. I've thought his chances to hit decently in MLB are remote. The rankings are full of mistakes (Rodriguez) and questions (Culpepper) and they are missing a number of players who don't have what they perceive as big upside or who haven't found that pitch, yet. Ranking are full of high "upsides" without the understanding of what upside really is or whether it's definable.

    I pray, pray, pray you don't think these two are anywhere close in value. I can't even imagine using the two names in the same sentence, unless the sentence is "Kaelen Culpepper doesn't belong in the same sentence as Walker Jenkins."

    I'm not even a Culpepper fan, but no, Houston does not make Culpepper available. I would be thrilled, however, if the Twins made Houston available. That would be a trade that would be hard to lose. Twins just need to be very careful. They need to trade Jeffers, and they need to get value for him, not near-term value, but the best value they can get.

    Clemens has three years of team control left after this year. You consider that short-term value? He'll be a young 33 in that last year, but that seems a decent transition player for the Twins. Plus, 2B is open. Trade Larnach, sure, but exactly what will you get? The return will be so little it won't matter because you could figure out another way to get that exact return without trading your 2nd best lefty stick. Same goes for Josh Bell. The biggest reason to trade these two if the Twins were clearly out of it is to open space for Jenkins, not really to get good future value (because they won't).

    There is no world where I'd be afraid to give up Tait, Rodriguez, and CJ Culpepper. You'd, of course, want to take care of multiple needs, like a reliever as well as a starter. I'm not sure Detmers is the man. He's given up 5 ERs in 3 of his last 5 starts. And his overall track record isn't great. I could see him turn into a pumpkins. But the idea of sliding overrated prospects and CJC past someone is a fun one. My guess is that no team (maybe except the Angels) is bad enough to think EmRod will be anything. Why are we talking Sonny Gray when Boston is ahead of us?

    Three good choices, Cody. I'm not going to dismiss GG the way I have EmRod, but let's remember that last year was his third attempt at high A, and then while on a roll he went to ballparks that are super easy to hit in. He's shown ups and downs before, and the educated guess is he becomes the useful but very limited hitter he's always supposed to have become. Strictly platoon DH, COF, and maybe 1B. The Twins need to recover some of Tait's prospect value next year and see if they can move him. I'd suggest sending him to AA in 2027, let him pretend to hit like our other prospects there, and deal him while you still can. Somebody should be helping Hill, or what's going on there? Is his head messed up? And in what way?

    Oof. What do you want him to do? He can't hit for average, he only takes walks he'll never get at the MLB level, and mostly what he does is strike out.

    Why in the world would you trade Jeffers for a reliever? Jeffers helps you win now. A reliever helps you win now. What's the point? If the answer has something to do with Caratini and Jackson, you're going down the wrong rabbit hole. Jeffers has a chance to make you better for the future. The front office needs to be very strategic about dealing him. They have lots of ability to get relievers for prospects that have little chance of ever helping. For example, Emmanuel Rodriguez could probably get you a couple of relievers from a front office and fanbase who also doesn't understand he'll never hit.

    I have no idea what's going on with the major league team, but I doubt the minor league development has changed, and I see no real evidence of identifying hitters who weren't completely obvious. Hitters in the system: Jenkins -- natural born hitter Lackey -- questionable because amateur, but very much the consensus pick. Culpepper -- really questionable as to how good he might be, but the ceiling isn't that high. His stats for St. Paul, and especially relative to the HRs of minor leagues/AAA this year are decent but not special. Nobody else has my attention yet, really. I wanted to love Jhomnardo Reyes, but his K rate is trending high, and that's going to be problematic. Marek Houston's real value is difficult but not impossible to determine at Wichita and St. Paul. I currently think he won't be a hitter, but once we finally get Statcast data from AAA, it will be easier to know exactly what he is.

    I tend to think they're going to have to be careful with Prielipp every season. Then he'll eventually have to have TJS again, which will, for practicality's sake, lose two seasons, the one where he gets injured and the next. What would/should you do with a great, currently non-injured arm and that profile?

    There are rhp's that righties can hit, and there are ones they can't. Platooning Lewis probably makes most sense if you don't sit him against the hittable ones. Basically, sit him vs the really tough righty on righty.

    Twins picked up Jack Anderson, not Jake Anderson. Jack's pitched in MLB. Jake is some sort of former college pitcher.

    Falvey was the man who made all the decisions that didn't have to go through ownership. Now Zoll is that guy. If Zoll made a decision on his own before, it's because Falvey gave him that power, but I guarantee it wasn't a roster decision, and you'd be crazy to think Zoll made trade decisions. Which front office boss would ever delegate trade decisions?

    A well-considered article. I would disagree, though, that we can count on playing meaningful baseball in September, unless you're saying they're not eliminated by then. Things can easily fall apart from where they stand now, partially due to other things you mention: a batting regression, which is all but guaranteed, and the pitching will be tested. Those are almost for sure, and when you add in the distinct possibility of bad luck otherwise, counting on the Twins to play meaningful games in September comes down to getting technical about it. That doesn't mean they won't, just that it's very possible they won't.

    This seems a question that could have been handled in one sentence. "Unless Lackey races through the minors to push his way onto the team sometime in 2027, the hope would be that he could contribute as early as 2028."

    Is it worth it to trade Larnach and Bell for something that, realistically will never help or an amount that can easily be made up other ways rather than see if they can help this year? I'm not saying yes or no, but that would seem to be the dilemma. As far as extending Ryan, that's fine in a world where the Twins can spend whatever they want. In a realistic world, it's probably best to trade Ryan at his (likely peak) current value before he has his normal late-season letdown and before an injury. Is it so important to make the postseason that you risk missing out on the great return he can bring? I don't know the answer, except that he absolutely needs to be traded now, this offseason, or (third place by far) next trade deadline.

    I was Keaschall's biggest advocate coming into the season, but you have to see what is wrong, please. It's not about hating, it's about what we expected and what we got. Keaschall simply has two huge flaws. He doesn't field well, and he doesn't hit the ball hard enough. Neither should have been an expectation, but we thought Keaschall would improve his fielding, and we didn't know what his EVs were (he seemed okay last year). But LK can square up a ball, and as he gets stronger, he will hopefully hit MLB pitching harder. Why are you defending him? It's not about homers. It's about hitting the ball hard.

    Tait's got some real issues, but he's 19 at high A+, which is really good. His isolated power is good. His .244 BABIP is substantially lower than his history, which likely means the average is due to bad luck, and his numbers would be better. His walk rate, never good, can possibly be attributed to always being young for his league. The biggest problem is that he's unlikely to stay behind the plate, and then what do you do with him? The Twins have a great excuse now to trade Tait, and I'd suggest they take advantage of it once he's back to hitting next year.
