  1. I've said this in other threads of similar nature, but this FO was tasked with rebuilding the organization from the ground up and ownership has never been of the impatient ilk. So, they're going to get the opportunity to see this through. And they've made no indication that they won't. The game had passed the previous regime's pitching philosophy by, so it's going to take time to build that pipeline. I'm not saying that I'm sold that it's happening, but this FO is going to get that opportunity. They appear to be on the cusp of that coming to fruition, so jettisoning them now makes little sense. If it doesn't work out, then the decision is easy. If it does, the decision is easy. They're at that tipping point right now. At this particular point in time, the effort is incomplete so making a decision one way or another makes little sense.
  2. The biggest hangup that I have with this guaranteed to be good core is that only one of them was a pitcher. And he wasn't even a legitimate ace. Even in today's game, you don't win without pitching. This FO is what put that pitching around the position player core and filled out pitching staffs and the remaining position players. While I think it crazy to say that a group of players will win regardless, even accepting that notion still ignores the pitching that got them to where they did go. If 2019 showed us anything, it's that teams still can't solely hit their way through the playoffs. Pitching is still required. It's perfectly reasonable to give credit to the previous regime for the position player group and acknowledge the current FO for their contribution. The last two division titles don't happen without contributions from both.
  3. What's interesting to me is that the same reasons used to defend the 2016 squad can also largely be used for the 2021 squad. Yet, the 2021 squad has managed to win more games and still has 3 weeks to play. I'm not sure that I follow how one gets a pass and the other doesn't.
  4. That's...not good... Wow.
  5. So we've finally resorted to sorcery for success? Frankly, I'm shocked that it took this long!
  6. With all of the uncertainty in the rotation heading into next season, I was really hoping that they'd get a good look at Dobnak in the rotation again. Par for the course this season. Nothing seems to work out as hoped.
  7. He's had quite the roller coaster career. Ride that peak as far as you can! Fascinating story that he's got. The resilience and determination is admirable.
  8. I think Ober has earned a slot. Ryan is showing that he's ready, albeit in a small sample size. I'm guessing Dobnak will also occupy a spot. I'd prefer him to be AAA depth myself. I'm in the @Vanimal46 camp in that they need more depth. I'd prefer not to have to rely on prospects too much, but if they've got some decent depth at AAA I could tolerate it. Dobnak can provide that. I was wanting to bring Pineda back, but I'm starting to worry about that now. I think 2022 will be a bit of a transition year, so I'd be looking for prospects to start making impacts next season. I don't think that will, or should, happen beginning on Opening Day though.
  9. Congratulations to Ryan on his first big league win! Hopefully the first of many in a Twins uni!
  10. You can, but the Twins would get a comp ticket package if I signed elsewhere.
  11. I wish I could "Like" this at least twice for the use of "asshats".
  12. This is true, but it's also true of the vast majority of the teams in the league. Even the teams that can spend at will need to get player evaluation right, they just have more means to absorb mistakes.
  13. I don't think this is even a conversation at this point. Even if Maeda is closer to what he was earlier this year then last, he's a 2/3 starter on a team starved of front line starters at the time of the trade for a reliever. Graterol may go on to do great things, but he wasn't what the team needed. That alone makes this a win for the Twins. It's also possible that both teams win in the end. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. That's what virtually every trade strives for.
  14. Never too early to get primed for those celebrity tournaments!
  15. This half inning is going quite well!
  16. Are we out of stone tablets?
  17. He's bounced around enough that I don't really feel like they missed anything. His success could be attributed to taking something from every stop he's had and molding it into his own to great effect. Whatever the reason, I'm glad to see him succeed. Wish it were here, but I don't have any regrets.
  18. If this were me, I guess that I'd simply want a second opinion before rushing into a procedure and risking my career, millions of dollars, significant rehab and recovery time, and all of the stress that goes along with that. Doesn't really need to get more complicated than that.
  19. While correct, he's right. We should be enjoying the game! Unfortunate that some apparently can't.
