  1. In that span, there are few front offices that I would put above them. They took the bull by the horns and got aggressive and they're reaping the benefits of it.
  2. I hope that they do learn something from the evaluation aspect, but given the context, I imagine they do the same thing. They needed to fill the roster with known commodities, not complete wild cards who hadn't played in two years. Context is important in this discussion.
  3. Welcome to the site! I'd definitely get to the ballpark early. Unless it's a day game, the visiting team is usually on the field taking BP. Take the opportunity look around TF, head up to Truly On Deck and check out all of the memorabilia up there. The RF plaza usually has some kid friendly activities and games. After the field has cleared and being prepped, players will come out of the dugout and start stretching and playing catch. Kids will usually gather towards the end of the dugout to get autographs as players head back into the dugout before the game. As for outside of the ballpark, I don't know of too many kid-centric things. It's a lot of bars and restaurants. That said, I don't have kids, so it's certainly possible that I'm simply not thinking of something.
  4. He's a guy that took advantage of the opportunity he was given. There's no guarantee that he even would have cracked the active roster had he been kept. Conventional wisdom or not, it's wise roster management to keep a guy that you know can help you contend over a guy that hadn't played in two years and is basically a complete unknown. That's a much different story than the situation Detroit was in.
  5. The Tigers and Twins were in much different situations leading into this season. The Twins were expected to contend and the Tigers...not so much. A contending team can't stash away a guy in Baddoo's position and need established major league players. The Tigers could afford to take that risk. This one just worked in Detroit's favor.
  6. I think I'm in a similar mindset as you. There are positives that I like, negatives that I definitely do not (these generally drive me nuts), some that I'm indifferent about, and some that are incomplete. Throw all of that in a blender and I've got a net neutral opinion that lists one way or another on a daily basis. In the end, I need to see something more one way or another before I can really determine where I'm at with them.
  7. I always forget about the academy classwork that is offered to players. That is cool. Congrats to all of those guys!
  8. Fact of the matter is that ownership has never shown themselves to be impatient. This FO started to rebuild the organization from the top down and there's been every indication that ownership is onboard with that and will allow them the time to do so. One year certainly isn't going to change that. So, this FO is going to be here to help clean up the mess unless they decide to bail on it themselves. There are plenty of reasons to dislike what was done in the past year. I imagine if you could get a candid response from the FO, they'd have a list of their own. For a FO that has had pretty good success, I'm now interested to see how they react and deal with some adversity. To me, that's the real test. Things aren't always going to go as planned. How they react is a good barometer of how fit they are for their jobs.
  9. Is the only option "DFA"?
  10. It's not fair that they bring a ringer to the game.
  11. I'd worry about whiplash, but that's about it. Hopefully just burning him up so that they don't burnout the guys that won't be DFA'd after the game.
  12. Everyone has been clamoring for more action on the base paths. Burrows decided to oblige.
  13. So, it's you we have to blame!
  14. Indeed it does. Indeed it does.
  15. Whatever we're missing, Anderson didn't...
  16. I don't know, but if the thread opener has its proper effect, he does it with confidence!
  17. Hopefully their pitcher allows the Twins bats to go to 11!
  18. With positional flexibility and shuffling of the order for RHP/LHP, I wonder how much of that mindset is still valid. Many of these guys have grown up and gone through the minor league system playing multiple positions and hitting up and down the lineup. It's not as though Rocco is the only manager doing this either. Not that that makes it right, I just wonder how valid that is anymore. We see it more with bullpens too now. Not really arguing against your point, but not really totally agreeing either. Posing a question, I guess.
  19. Interesting. That's maybe a bit too gimmicky for me, but I like the creativity behind it. I do like the options it presents though. It would be interesting to see how some of the more forward thinking managers utilize something like that. There's a chance that it could grow on me if I saw it implemented. It may not be as gimmicky as I have it in my head.
  20. I don't like the DH at all, but it's a foregone conclusion that it'll be universally adopted, so it is what it is.
  21. Larnach doesn't pitch, catch, or play infield, so that's all irrelevant. Buxton, Garlick, Cave, Kepler, Kirilloff and Refsnyder have all been hurt. Someone has to play the outfield, ready or not. It's been a long season, I get it. A veteran doesn't change any of that.
  22. With all do respect, this roster was loaded with established veterans at C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CF, RF, DH, 4/5 of the starting rotation and most of the bullpen. That's gotten them to where they currently reside; the bottom of the AL Central. Time to reset. Let the kids have their growing pains now, not next season. Signing a veteran to block the glut of corner types in the farm system won't help anything.
  23. Wrecking a good team's weekend at home is so much more fun than losing. Being a good guest is overrated sometimes.
  24. You're fortunate. If I retired tomorrow, it would require a hell of a lot more math than if I was simply going to figure out how long until I could retire! And that math would have to be quite creative to make it work!
