  1. Starters aren't going deep into games anymore, so a strong bullpen is a must for any team to be truly competitive. How it's constructed does differ from the to team though.
  2. I can see them adding OF depth, but I don't see them adding starting quality. I'd like to see them do it, but that list doesn't really excite me after the first two or three. Plus, I'd rather they do something rather than just sit out free agency all together.
  3. I don't see him getting dealt at this point, either. I'm not opposed to moving him, but they'd need to invest the savings for me to be truly in favor of any move. I just don't see a big return for him given his salary and age.
  4. Insightful as always, Chief!?
  5. That's an interesting tool. What I found very interesting is that those percentages don't change substantially when changing the date range. Those percentages have been remarkably consistent despite how the game has evolved.
  6. As the game has evolved, so has bullpen usage. Some would argue that the closer role is antiquated, while others still feel that there is a place for them in the game. Personally, I'm of the ilk that feels that it depends on the makeup of the bullpen. Some teams will have a guy suited for a designated closer role, others will not. I believe the Twins are the latter, considering only the current makeup of the roster. Where do you sit? Do you think Rogers is capable closer material, or perhaps someone else? Do you think game situation should dictate when to use your best arms? I think we'd all agree that reinforcements could be brought in, but would you target a closer type or just solid relievers that can provide flexibility
  7. I'm still waiting to see how they respond to the adversity. A weird off-season doesn't help anything, but that's part of the bit. I am pretty disappointed with the lack of movement just before the CBA expired, but they still have an opportunity to improve the team. I also want to see how their prospects develop. Rebuilding the farm system is not a quick task.
  8. Given two lost seasons, I don't know how much value he really has at this point. Could someone bite? I suppose so, but I don't really see getting much of a return until he gets back into game action. And if he produces, then trading him probably doesn't make much sense.
  9. Great, now I'm having Matt Capps flashbacks again!
  10. I think it's time to shift Sano to DH and make room for Kirilloff at 1B. My understanding is that he's very good defensively there as well. Perhaps his best position. That would also take a little pressure off the logjam that is corner outfield.
  11. Note that I said IF that is the plan. I'm not crazy about the consideration either, but there are worse things that could happen.
  12. I think he was an pretty underrated player and had quite the career, but still probably not good enough for the Hall.
  13. For me, the best argument for signing Simmons is that he's easily expendable once an in house option is ready. If that is the plan, I can accept that for $5M. And if he's a solid player in the process, perhaps even to the point where he's not expendable, then that is just gravy. And I'd definitely take that for $5M. However, I'd prefer other options. But bringing him back for $5M isn't the worst thing that could happen.
  14. I'm a small Hall guy, felt Kaat probably should already have been in. Wish Oliva's run was longer, then he'd definitely already have been in. Hard to argue his dominance before his knees took it from him. Happy for both regardless!
  15. I don't think it's a coincidence that Polanco's bat took off with the move to 2B. He was also healthier. That's not a coincidence either. They do need to bring in a shortstop. I'd rather they roll with Martin or Lewis at SS than move Polanco back. I agree entirely that that move was the best of the 2021 decisions. Don't negate it by undoing it. Regarding Polanco, this seems like a "don't mess with success" scenario. Find another solution.
  16. I agree and that's what I'm afraid of too. Negotiations to this point didn't really seem all that productive, so I don't see this ending anytime soon. My other fear is that whatever does come out of it, won't necessarily help the betterment of the sport as much as it needs too.
  17. If you already watch every game played by every team, I can see where this would be a problem!
  18. I'd be on board with this! I like baserunners and I like game action. That would certainly bring both back into the game quickly.
  19. Definitely. But how do you think your habits will change?
  20. Now that the lockout is official, what sort of impact, if any, will it have on your baseball viewing habits if games are impacted? What are some factors that play into that decision?
  21. Stroman says he's signing with the Cubbies.
  22. The Rangers offseason philosophy reminds me of the money spending version of the Twins draft philosophy of drafting hit tool players and trying to figure out where they'll actually play later.
  23. With such a long stride, trying to add another step in there probably adds its own set of potential issues. Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. You have a valid point though, that can't be good on that hip.
  24. Mine was when they actually let the ink dry on the deal before they non-tendered him. That was sweet.
