  1. Done! Should we just fill in @USAFChief's vote now, or wait for him to get around to it?
  2. Unfortunately, that was a predictable outcome. Not an enviable topic assignment this week, Ted! Thank you nonetheless!
  3. Well said, and an excellent point.
  4. Substitute "owners" for "players" in this sentence and it's just as true. We wouldn't even be talking about this if both parties weren't arguing the same basic premise from both sides of the literal and figurative coin.
  5. For me, it's the pitchers. That's partly because this team needs pitching, but it's also because the crop, if healthy, looks like it could produce a few quality arms.
  6. There's been a lot of discussion lately regarding the prospects in the Twins organization. With the lockout, that's given a lot of attention to the minor league system that it might not otherwise get. With that in mind, is there group of prospects that you find more exciting or intriguing than the other? The next wave of prospects seems to be largely pitching. But there's also some highly regarded position players lurking as well.
  7. That's very diplomatic of you, RB!
  8. After the last couple of seasons he's had, I would consider it unreasonable for his rankings to not drop. I also think that he's at a point where ranking doesn't really matter anymore. He just needs to get on the field and produce. Let his production take him where it takes him. If I were him, or even the Twins, I wouldn't worry about the rankings and just go out and perform. That tends to solve a lot things.
  9. This team needs pitching, so those two are more important in at least the short term. I think Lewis is more important long term. If he can regain his status and produce at the MLB level, especially at SS, that'll be a huge development for this team. I think he's a big wild card for how this team grows. Having both Lewis and Martin healthy and producing makes for a talented core. Throw in a healthy Buxton and that's exciting to think about. But, there's plenty of "ifs" in that discussion.
  10. When Selig retired, I never thought I'd say once what I've said so many times lately, "I miss Bud Selig." This is ridiculous.
  11. He's already 31, so I'd be nervous for a deal over 3 years. And I'd probably be nervous about that. Sure, he could DH, but Sano is also in that conversation. There are bigger questions for this club and how the pieces fit. This isn't high on my priority list yet.
  12. I like Arraez quite a bit. I like what he brings to the table offensively. I think his skillset is one this team needs. The problem the Twins face with Arraez is that there are two veterans entrenched in his best positions defensively. I wouldn't mind DH'ing him, but Sano should be there, IMHO, to free up 1B for Kirilloff. The pieces, as currently configured, don't really lend to anything other than a trade. That doesn't mean that Arraez is that piece, but somebody has to be.
  13. Wouldn't be opposed to this, but it's not exactly exciting. Ober in particular could benefit from having him around. As @Karbosaid, I think they could do better going the trade route.
  14. As @Brock Beauchamppointed out, they added some key pieces around a core that was already in place. That core also improved on their watch. Given what they were tasked with when hired, the fact that the team became as good as it was so quickly, they've got to be given quite a bit of credit for that. Basically rebuilding the organizational philosophy appeared to show near immediate dividends.
  15. For me, it depends on how long the lockout goes. If it starts impacting the regular season, it might make more sense to bring in a veteran and see how far that will take you. But it depends on what the FO is really trying to do. If they're punting on the season, then I'd be against it. Let the kids play at that point. But if they're trying to catch lighting in a bottle and go after a playoff spot, especially in a short season, then I'd be all for it.
  16. He simply needs to adjust to the big leagues. That sometimes takes time. It almost always takes time in the big leagues. Getting consistent playing time would also help. I'm not too concerned yet. And as @Doctor Gastmentioned, not facing lefties doesn't help him much.
  17. I'm not necessarily against the concept of expansion, I just don't know that the talent pool is deep enough at the moment. But what I do like about the idea of expansion relates to your items 1 and 3, though I've always enjoyed the exclusivity of MLB's playoffs. I think the NBA and NFL playoffs are watered down. The NHL is different because a hot goalie can create so much havoc that the craziness factor is entertaining (and frustrating) on it's own. I do think that the stadium thing will never really go away, or really get more difficult. There will always be that next tier of cities that are of the ilk of the Portlands or Charlottes now, or an emerging market that will get big enough where a second team might make logical sense. And that doesn't even take into account international expansion, which opens a whole new flood of potential sites to relocate or expand to.
  18. If the o/u for minutes Thursday's meeting lasts is 10.5, which would you bet on?
  19. I think Lewis is a huge wild card for this organization. If he pans out, especially if his bat comes around and glove sticks at SS, that would be huge for this squad. Couple that with the pitching finally coming up and they'd have a young core to build around. That could still happen with Martin, but having both Martin and Lewis would be a luxury this team hasn't seen in a long time, if ever.
  20. That's fair, but the economics in those leagues is much different. I agree with your last paragraph though. I'm just not convinced that watering down the player pool helps the league as a whole. I think it will make the "have's" that much stronger and the "have nots" that much weaker as they fight over the non-top tier free agent player pool that is often times already not deep enough in the first place.
  21. Until they figure out how to create more parity, no. It'll just create more imbalance, IMO.
  22. I get what you're saying, but he spent 15 years in MN. That's more than any of the other retired numbers aside from Mauer (15) and Kelly (16). It's not like he was here for a cup of coffee. ?
  23. Thanks for these lists, Seth! Always a good read and I enjoy getting your takes on the top end of the farm system. Count me as among those that found Canterino to be in the top spot. That's high praise. Hopefully he, along with the rest of them, can stay healthy and show everyone why he belongs.
  24. I can't see the whole season being cancelled. I could see another 60 game season, but I don't expect it'll get that far either. A cancelled season would be a major blow to the sport. I don't know if either side acknowledges or cares about that, but that would be worse than the '94 strike.
