  1. If the Twins are to be a competent team, as the roster stands today, all three of these guys will need to produce. I'm not sure I'd consider them sleepers for that reason. They're being relied upon at this point.
  2. With how the roster is currently constructed, and with prospects like Miranda ready or close to it, trading him makes quite a bit of sense. I'm not really sure where to play him with Donaldson and Polanco on the roster.
  3. Nice to see her getting rewarded for a job well done. I hope she does well for herself!
  4. Celestino is probably the immediate insurance policy. I don't have an issue with Gordon if Celestino's bat continues to flounder though. I'd really like to know what the organization is planning for Martin. If they want him to stick at SS, then he should keep playing there. But if they don't think he can stick there, CF insurance is a good role for him if Buxton is out for an extended period of time.
  5. I think the answer to this is somewhere between a late season start and missing half the season. There will be a brief late ST and then a late start to the season. If I were to pick a timeline, I'd say a mid-to-late May start to the season. Once actually money starts getting lost, both sides will be more motivated to negotiate. It is infuriating that neither side seems all that interested in moving forward. Each party is just waiting for the other to blink.
  6. 2010 and 2019 stick out to me. 2010 because I thought they were actually the better of the two teams and actually had home field advantage. Per usual, the Yankees owned them. 2019 for similar reasons, but because of the pitching, I had my doubts. I've long been a believer that you can't slug your way through the playoffs, and that team is Exhibit A. Aside from the aforementioned years, for most of the post 2002 run, I've not felt that this team was the better team heading into the series and expected a loss. Beating up on a bad division (not their fault) is nice, but none of those teams were built to seriously contend for much more than a division title (definitely their fault).
  7. The offseason isn't over yet, so this seems a bit premature. Though, there is plenty of uncertainty about how the rest of the offseason will actually unfold. I find it hard to believe that they're done with pitching acquisitions. But if they are, that's easily the biggest mistake.
  8. And here lies the crux of the frustration with Buxton. These projections seem completely reasonable given 130+ games played. Hopefully he'll be able to put together one of those seasons and we all can sit back and enjoy the show.
  9. For him, it could have just been too many irons in the fire. Perhaps he's just stretched himself too thin. He's too good of a reporter to not be able to settle into one employer and still succeed.
  10. Not only a poor decision, but also really bad look. Manfred doesn't do much for his own PR image.
  11. You and me both. Though, not being able to watch may have been a blessing in disguise!
  12. Coasters and putting one's drink down...BLASPHEMY!!!
  13. Fascinating. I imagine that can be a rewarding and sometimes very painful process. It sounds like you've got an interesting story to tell as well. Thank you for your service and best of luck with the rest of your writing!
  14. No doubt. Is that kind of like the inverse equivalent of the run on vasectomies around March Madness?! ? And congratulations! Hope everyone is doing well!
  15. While true, once again, life has gotten in the way. Though this time, it's my own fault. I can normally blame someone or something. Do you have any "go to" parks that are good for snow shoeing?
  16. I'm in the process of putting a wet bar in my rec room and moving a sitting area into a larger unused/wasted room. We're just getting into the design stages as well, but I've been starting to buy things that I know have sporadic availability or long delivery dates already. Appliances are next on the list since I see that several options are on backorder. I'm also going to replace all of the windows and a couple of exterior doors as the weather warms. Those are the two big ones. I've got a couple of smaller outdoor projects on the docket as well. I went through a refi about this time last year. I also got an appraisal waiver, thankfully. I figure that cut 6 weeks off the closing timeframe.
  17. Sounds like your hands would have been full one way or another! I've got a couple of home improvement projects that I'm working on as well. The largest of them is just starting to get rolling a bit. It's been interesting trying to stay out front of and anticipating inventory shortages. I'm going to have a busy (and expensive) summer though.
  18. Snow shoeing in the state parks is something I've been wanting to get into, but life keeps getting in the way. I guess add that to the list of things where "there's always next year" is applicable.
  19. Someone that has far more time than I will have to figure that one out. I'm going to guess that it's a short list and none of them with payrolls near Tampa's will be on it. But that's certainly not a fluke. They've earned that success.
  20. Since and including 2008, the Rays have four losing seasons and two of those are 80-82 seasons. That run also includes three 95+ win seasons, a 100 win season, seven playoff years and two World Series appearances. They also won two-thirds of their games in 2020. All of that while playing in the AL East. That's one hell of a fluke.
  21. This is what drives me nuts too. I can deal with drafting athletes and finding spots for them later. Up the middle guys are going to be pure athletes and can pretty much be put anywhere. Corner guys are inherently less athletic, hence being a corner guy. That's about the extent of their flexibility. From a position player aspect, that's by far the biggest difference in the two franchises and I think it shows.
  22. Agreed. I wasn't really trying to argue otherwise. I was more trying to look at multiple angles to the conversation since I don't have the data you were looking at. Sometimes it's hard to wrap one's head around such things when we're talking such large figures.
  23. Probably lots of layers there. Given the median age of Florida vs MN, you have to wonder if and how that plays into things. A large segment of the Ray's potential fan base can't drive after dark and are on fixed incomes. Regardless, that is quite a gap in TV revenue.
  24. Out of curiosity, how does their ballpark revenue stack up? Or even the radio contracts? The Trop makes the Metrodome look like a palace and it's virtually empty all of the time. Last I heard (some time ago), the Yankees radio broadcasts in the Tampa area had higher ratings than the Rays did.
