  1. How very bold of you! That's quite the limb you've climbed out on! ?
  2. 3-4 seems like the obvious choice to me. It's also what the team will need to have in order to have any sort of relevance. If they can get more, that's not only gravy but could also keep them around .500 and/or in playoff conversations. That said, I don't know how much of that will be sustained. There will almost certainly be stretches of sheer brilliance, followed by sustained mediocrity as these guys try to get through their first big league season or debuts. I expect to see lots of fresh faces coming up from the minors. Some bigger names, some not so much so. Some will catch on and hang around, some will crash and burn and get sent back to St. Paul in short order. As @Sconnie has stated here and several other threads, there is going to be an innings gap and someone has to pitch those. It could get pretty ugly at times. It could be marvelous at times too though.
  3. There's a lot of things that the Rays do well in player development that I'd love the Twins to replicate, but there are a lot of constraints to their organization that probably drive some of those things too. What they've been able to sustain is quite incredible, but I don't really see any other teams effectively duplicating what they do with regularity. It seems that the Rays have to be creative to remain competitive. They've been very good at it, and it is extremely impressive. Too bad that many in Florida don't care. I'm not convinced that getting a new ballpark in a better location will help that. Their ability to lock in their young stars early is risky, but I like that aggressiveness in trying to retain the elite players that come out of their system.
  4. It's not against the rules though. Gamesmanship happens all over the field. And I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. You enjoy the game your way, I'll enjoy it mine.
  5. During a typical offseason, I'm usually one to almost completely disengage from the sport and focus on other sports/things through the winter and until Spring Training starts. This offseason hasn't been all that different for me in that regard, but I'm curious how others are filling in the hole that's been left by what is essentially a complete void of baseball chatter and activity. Have you searched the depths of the internet to find any morsel of baseball info you can find? Have you checked out and found other entertainment? Somewhere in between? Picked up a second language? How have you filled the void?
  6. Right, either way it's intended to be a non-competitive season. One may end up being worse than the other, but either way it's not meant to really be competitive.
  7. I'm against an automated zone, but that's largely because I enjoy the gamesmanship involved with such things. Everyone else's mileage varies considerably apparently, however. ?
  8. I bet this still happens anyway. The ire just gets aimed elsewhere.
  9. Sure, but they had that opportunity at the trade deadline and prior to the lockout. They didn't take that course. I agree that there is still time for that teardown to proceed, but it's probably unlikely at this point unless the lockout is resolved soon.
  10. As it sits right now, a lot more guys than Ober and Ryan need to establish themselves. While I think Dobnak is much more suited for a starting role and expect him to be worked back into the rotation, I'm not sure that he can be relied on at this point. Even if you do decide to rely on him, that still leaves one open spot in the rotation. And that assumes that Bundy is less of what he was last season and more of what he was earlier in his career. This season's flow will go with the rollercoaster that is likely to be the rotation. Lots of highs and just as many lows.
  11. 2020 was such an odd year. Hard to make much of anything from it, IMO.
  12. Its always good to temper one's expectations. ?
  13. I appreciate the optimism! Welcome to Twins Daily!
  14. Your comment specifically stated position players, nothing about pitchers. No need for apologies, I was simply referring you to a comment that had already covered your question. Nothing more, nothing less.
  15. Nice catch! Perfection was not on my side yesterday!
  16. I'll never get tired of watching that swing. In their prime, there were two players in all of baseball that I would stop whatever I was doing and watch the at bat; Mauer and Pujols. Also, the only reason that I was at the final home game in 2018 was because I believed that was going to be Mauer's last game. I had more pressing things to do, and the weather certainly could have made for a more enjoyable day. I'm far from a Mauer fanboy, but I appreciate a talent like his and I wanted to enjoy it one last time. Absolutely glad that I went.
  17. I'd absolutely love to bring Bryant in. He's better than any of the depth they have anywhere aside from maybe 3B. He's a guy I'd find a place for. But it's all a pipe dream, so there's also that.
  18. Agreed. The pitching is what will likely determine how they do. If it's dreadful, they'll be dreadful. If it's serviceable, they could hang around .500.
  19. That's certainly where he belongs, 1B. That Sano guy needs to get out of the way though.
  20. Interesting point, especially with Buxton. With all of the screwing around that they did with his swing early on, it would be interesting to know what would have happened with a different approach or if they just left him alone. He didn't take off offensively until he bet on himself and did what he wanted to do.
  21. Your shameless self promotion seems incomplete without a link! ?
  22. I "liked" this because it is good content...but it also made me throw up a little.
  23. Given how quickly everything happened, even if they had a Plan B there probably wasn't much time to implement it. Hopefully they're able to salvage something. Like @Brock Beauchampmentioned, it's kinda like throwing away a season. There's enough talent there that that probably shouldn't be the approach even after last year.
  24. I'm usually pretty patient during the offseason, but that's been pretty difficult this year. Hard to see what the plan really is. That's made worse by the appearance, and they basically admitted it, that they got caught flat footed on the pre-lockout rush on free agency.
