I wish Sano well. I don’t think he’ll be a superstar or anything, but I hope he makes the roster and has a productive season.

How about Luzardo and Josh Bell for Polanco, Brooks Lee, and Jair Camargo? Twins would get the pitcher we all covet, and a RHH that can hit LHP at a respectable rate. Bell is a somewhat volatile hitter, and is paid $16.5 million this year. He has negative value, and this would bring down the cost for the Twins. Miami would get Lee and Camargo, as they need high end middle infield and catcher depth, respectively. Polanco would help them this year and next, and his salary would be offset by Bell’s. They could move Arraez to 1B with Bell gone, making room for Polanco. While this seems expensive to me, Luzardo would make our team better for the next three years, and the trade would clear our middle infield logjam. I like Lee a lot, but he may be redundant with our current prospects and roster, and prospects are still suspects—no guarantee he pans out.

I don’t think the Mets would need to pay down his salary to make this trade from their end, but I see why the Twins need salary relief. We could issue a Qualifying Offer at the end of next season when Alonso walks.

Jake Meyers in CF?
Post-Concussive Blues replied to Post-Concussive Blues's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Maybe Houston would want Vasquez if we pay half his salary. -
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/astros-trade-rumors-jake-meyers.html I like Jake Meyers. Very good defender with offensive upside. Still relatively young, coming off injury, and buried by depth on the Astros. He is cheap and controllable, and would be a great CF option for us. Worst case he is a back up CF/4th outfielder. I think the Astros might seek out relief pitching in return—MLB ready paired with a prospect? Maybe Alcala and SWR? What would be a fair trade?

Too bad we couldn’t add “Laser Ramòn” with his cannon arm and excellent nickname.

I suspect he broke a screw or loosened the hardware on that awkward slide last season. This would explain why he passed his physical when the Twins signed him last year, and why he can’t pass a physical this year—this would be a new x-ray finding. He doesn’t have any ongoing symptoms or limitations currently, so there is no indication for an operation to remove the hardware and introduce surgical risk at this time, but there is concern for future instability and need for operative management. Alternatively, this was a known concern last year, and why he settled for the contract that he did.

Great trade. I’m fine with letting go a high risk, high reward, often injured, probable relief pitcher for a proven good starting pitcher on a favorable contract. The money coming our way would nearly completely offset the Maeda contract if we cut him tomorrow, but more likely, it keeps the door open for a trade deadline acquisition. Raley has upside, but he’s 25 years old and our 4th best corner OF/1B prospect.
-
He’s a great pitcher, and his long, affordable contract makes him so valuable. This was a great deal. Fans saying that we should have “gotten an ace” for Graterol should follow that up with an actual example of aces with multiple years of control being traded for single, possibly relief prospects. There aren’t any.
-
Great deal. Maeda is a cheap stud controlled for three more years. Graterol is a relief prospect whose arm is about to fall off.

I put the over/under on HR for 2nd Base at 5, and Arraez will still win the batting title.

That seems about right. I don’t know if Hildenberger will have enough time to regain his spot—he didn’t get called back up yet—so I’d sub him for Thorpe so we have another lefty. Romo is a RHP.

I think that is a reasonable offer. One benefit of acquiring him now (or this winter) would be that he can receive a qualifying offer next offseason. That goes away if he is traded during his contract year, right?
