  1. He is pretty great, but I think he runs 30 feet per second. I don’t think any human can run 30 miles per hour. Still, 20.5mph is very fast!
  2. I hate to root for losses, but we’d be better off with a very poor start, early sell off, and full on youth movement by early summer than by treading water just below .500. I am excited to see healthy Buxton again!
  3. This is the explanation for Falvey’s departure that makes the most sense to me.
  4. Tom Pohlad is upset that we don’t have Mickey Gasper anymore. Simple as that. I do feel bad for Falvey. He had a good vision, and I think a lot of our player development issues have been bad luck more than poor drafting. It would be very hard to run an organization where your long term plans of increasing payroll to supplement core players are suddenly jerked out from underneath you. I suspect that he had an idea of spending some money, and ownership is not approving. So, does he really want another losing season on his resumé when it’s not the roster he wanted, or does he “mutually” agree to leave to save face for both parties?
  5. Joe Ryan is Joe Ryan, but a couple of prospects could be anything. Maybe even another Joe Ryan!
  6. Was it Chris Colabello that came up at 29 and had a nice little career between the Twins and Blue Jays?
  7. I think it’s pretty clear he is locating his 4-seamer to draw a picture of himself, or possibly a fetus, throwing a 4-seamer.
  8. “He’s a two-pitch 29-year-old with a career 4.38 ERA“ Really, not a bad back of rotation starter. Just not available enough.
  9. We’ll all be laughing at this when France wins MVP and we issue a qualifying offer!
  10. If he works out, will the Twins have additional control through arbitration in subsequent seasons?
  11. I think you’re throwing the baby out with the bathwater to dismiss season long objective data because Bill James said there was variability. Should we compare them with something more subjective, like your personal “eye test?” Is there a point when we have enough data to draw conclusions? Here are the 2023’s catching splits:
  12. I don’t think it makes sense to trade him for $5 million of relief, if we have to sign a similar catcher for $5 million to replace him. It would only make sense if the Twins have faith in their minor league guys. As an aside, the pitching splits by catcher were interesting—weirdly similar pitching performance with either Jeffers or Vasquez.
  13. I’m happy to reflect on Joe Mauer as a rare player that reached his full potential, rather than a player whose career was derailed by injury. His performance during his peak years was beyond any reasonable expectation, and he shaped the Twins into a winning franchise during those years.
  14. Great news for fans! MLB will probably have to subsidize/revenue share even more for these teams now though.
  15. I think Paddack has excess value—he would easily get 7.5 million in free agency as a back end starter with upside. He looked really good, at times. I would rather keep him than trade him and sign someone only slightly cheaper.
