  1. His avg is offensive (see what I did there), but he has tolerable OBP skills for a back-up C. While I'm not impressed, I'm fine with him holding down the role until Sept. call-ups.
  2. Maybe it's not indecisiveness. Maybe it's a different mindset completely, viewing a 162-game roster as a more fluid thing? Dunno. I would be interesting if the bought/sold/bought and made it to the post-season, just to see if other GMs would copy the idea. I kind of hate the all-or-nothingness of the current Trading Deadline. It makes baseball hard to watch in 2/3s of baseball cities after August 2.
  3. I watch all Vikings games, basically nothing else. Like the sport, hate the NFL business machine. I refuse to watch NFL and talk about it with others, just alone. Which is why, I think, the real reason I still enjoy it is that I build in 3-4 hours of exclusive "me time" each week just to hole up in a quiet basement and block out the world.
  4. At first, I thought he meant Valencia.
  5. "Polanco had as many hits tonight as he did all last month." Ouch. Glad he's turning it around.
  6. He was in A or maybe AA when the Twins played the 5 OF players you mentioned.
  7. Or Busenitz. Then they keep Gee as swingman. They don't have a long reliever without since dropping Hughes and Haley, do they? (I seriously can't keep track of which pitchers on the roster anymore.)
  8. Chacin's avg would be about 6th best in the Twins lineup tonight.
  9. I don't think that's true, though. While the Twins hire staff, minor league teams are an independent business and they need to put fans in the seats. If he doesn't put an entertaining product on the field, the team unaffiliates. It's his job to develop players and to win. Just like a manager at any other level.
  10. I think the military-style approach barely works in a 16 game NFL season. I can't imagine anyone wanting to play 162 games in that environment.
  11. If they finish anywhere near .500 I think it's hard to get rid of him.
  12. Belisle...just so none of the young pitchers gets an arbitration raise. Because that's the only time when saves matter.
  13. I think the issue is that the offense will definitely get worse with a trade. While pitching is currently a black hole, the offense also has room for improvement. The only way to absorb the loss of Dozier's bat is to pick up more hitting from an OF. (Or 1B or C, but they aren't making changes there soon.) If the current OF trio continues developing, that's okay. If not, there's an issue.
  14. As there's another thread debating the loss of Haley, I find it interesting to contemplate giving Polanco a year of Rule 5 MLB time in 2014. He's in a sophomore slump. These things happen. Be thankful the Twins have depth at the position while he works things out.
  15. I'd rather have Esco than Garver for that. I'd rather have Garver than Giminez as backup catcher.
  16. But they have to carry 3 C if he's the "bench bat," right? Otherwise, Castro can never leave a game when Garver is playing LF, 1B, DH, or PH.
  17. If one of his primary roles is PH, do they carry 3 catchers? He has some "Hermann-esque" flexibility.
  18. If they trade Escobar, there isn't a remotely capable bat on the bench.
  19. I have a feeling they'll give Santiago a long rehab assignment after his last DL trip.
  20. Not sure why people think there's demand for Gimenez: either that he'd fail to clear waivers or that they could trade him for anything (unless by "anything" you mean comparable to the Danny Santana trade). He signed on a minor league contract and has a career avg below Drew Butera. Gimenez is a fun character, but he'll be expendable if/when the team wants a different backup catcher.
  21. No. GMs know each other and have real sources. We're just relying on the rumor mill.
  22. He'd cost more, but anyone think Jim Johnson could hack it in the AL Central? He was terrible a couple years back in BAL, but seems rejuvenated in ATL.
  23. I agree that if the "think" he will, but there's no way to know that for sure if it's based on something minor. There's still a chance whatever the mystery red flag is wouldn't matter in the end. Gotta balance your risks.
