  1. Wilson has to be nearing some kind of record for batting futility.
  2. A single hot streak in the next 3 weeks could turn things around. It sure doesn't look like it will happen, but for me optimism and baseball go hand-in-hand.
  3. This team can't bring runners in to score. They only score on HR. It's weird how RISP can vary from year to year.
  4. + Lynn pitching. Predictions for what time the game will end?
  5. I feel like a good-hitting catcher is almost as likely to break down as going after a pitcher. I guess the odds of Realmuto breaking down while still under this contract are still low, but I wouldn't bet the farm on him igniting the puddle of mediocrity we've seen this year from the Twins. As yarnivek1972 said above, this roster isn't quite there yet. The Astros can burn through their farm system. The Twins can't even think about that until they're capable of winning a playoff series.
  6. Ask yourself: What would Pittsburgh do? A: this Then do the opposite.
  7. Agreement, though I don't know what exactly is going on with Reed (mental vs physical). I'd give him a couple lower leverage appearances first. Hopefully tonight will be a blowout and he can pitch the 9th.
  8. I want to agree with this, but weren't Lynn and Cobb part of the free agent "Spring Training camp"? It clearly wasn't on par with a major league facility because that didn't work out so well either.
  9. Shy of the DL, they don't have a choice about the date. He's out of options.
  10. I didn't think Lynn would get his ERA below 5.00 before Morrison would get to .200. Here's hoping both turn it around for real.
  11. Because Molitor believes a team needs an 8 man bullpen but should only use the same 4 pitchers every single game. It would also be the perfect scenario to get Reed out there (if he hadn't thrown 30 pitches the day before).
  12. While I know the point of this discussion isn't to define an ace, I think one important aspect is how deep they pitch into the game. An ace doesn't just wow you on the mound, they protect the bullpen by going 6+ more often than not. Gibson isn't quite there at 5.8 per start. Berrios is barely above 6. I still enjoy watching both pitch, of course, and this is my own made up rule just now.
  13. Is Sano to play in games or mostly work on the practice fields? I'd like to see a thread tracking his box scores...assuming this is a temporary move.
  14. Eh, pitchers go through hot/cold streaks. Not worried. (Though Molitor doesn't have to have him pitch 5 of every 7 days in tight situations as he works through it.)
  15. If Petit isn't playing anyway, I wonder why they don't call up a one-dimensional but useful player to PH or PR. I guess that would mean Vargas, or pick up a has-been off waivers who might be able to PH late in a game.
  16. I think taking the DH out of the minor leagues would go a long way toward improving pitchers' hitting capabilities at the pro level. Players should be improving their fundamentals in the minor leagues. All of them.
  17. While that's logical, I've heard it before, like when Wang was hurt a decade ago. The change still hasn't happened. Personally, I'd love to end interleague play. It would reduce this issue and get rid of the division-heavy schedule imbalance. But I don't write the rules.
  18. Eh, every player I've heard comment on the drug testing system says they get tested "all the time." I'm sure it's annoying. I'd be annoyed if my job did that to me. If he has a problem with it, take it to the union for their next CBA.
  19. Oh, man...Can you image Hughes' stats in Fenway?
  20. Except, of course, that their opening day lineup (sans suspension) was basically homegrown. Mauer Dozier Polanco Sano Kepler Buxton Rosario That's every defensive position except the one who Garver backs up.
