  1. Though they recently granted Plouffe his release from AAA.
  2. To paraphrase comments in many other threads this week, I'm not worried about a lot of strikeouts in the first dozen games of the season. Everyone is rusty, they just came from very different temps in FL/AZ, and they haven't settled into the routine of the season yet. Players don't improve instantly, it takes years. It's a game of nuance and subtlety. Sano has nothing in common with Cuddyer (besides player 3B poorly), but I'll use Cuddy as an example. With many players you're ready to give up on them at about the time they finally turn that corner.
  3. Based on the subject lines here at TD, we're worried about everything.
  4. I hope the front office isn't jumping in and telling players how to approach an at bat.
  5. I wasn't a fan of the LoMo signing in the first place. Mostly because of his personality, but also he's had a very inconsistent career. Hopefully he proves me wrong as the season progresses.
  6. Suzuki seems like a nice guy and the staff liked him. But I'd trade his 3 or 4 C+ at bats per game for Butera's D- at bats and A defense for 27 outs any day. Castro is a nice point in the middle, where his bat doesn't kill the offense but he's still a strength on defense. The catcher always has the ball in his hand, and it affects the outcome of the game more than most positions. I never realized how much until last year.
  7. I guess LoMo's complaining about the weather paid off.
  8. I'll never understand Molitor's bullpen usage. I see the case for Hildenberger since the game was still close and for Rodney since he's barely pitched, but why send out Reed with a 4 run lead?
  9. If he's not too busy complaining that he doesn't play under a dome.
  10. Finally. The joke was old in 2003.
  11. Tigers all the way. Gardenhire wins manager of the year. TwinsDaily explodes.
  12. If he makes the roster, how many times will he pitch this year?
  13. I haven't paid attention, is Kinley likely to go multiple innings/mopup if he makes the roster? I'd assume so given Rule 5 history, but not everyone (Tonkin) is built for multiple innings. I'd guess it's harder on the flamethrowers, though I have no proof to that claim.
  14. Oops, well I meant to bold something earlier. I don't see my edit button either.
  15. I agree that sitting in limbo doesn't help anybody, but there's no way to enforce the part I put in bold above. And there shouldn't be. If the league starts creating rules mandating playing time, well, I can't even imagine such a thing. What is "give a real chance"? It's arbitrary. I'd say Vargas already had a real chance. He has 800 MLB at bats. Obviously, many people disagree with that or we wouldn't have 801 TwinsDaily discussions about it. I don't have any solution. It's not a perfect situation for Vargas, but the fact of the matter with most players in limbo like this is simply that they're marginal MLB talents, typically on the outside looking in. How many players does this happen to each year, maybe a half dozen? That's a tiny fraction of MLB's overall roster.
  16. I wouldn't read too much into the Sano situation. They can make another roster move when that's announced.
  17. What's the solution though? It's not fair to the player to be stuck on a team that doesn't want them either.
  18. Does the waiver wire go by league, AL then NL, in the offseason and sprint training? I'm just curious if this means no AL team was interested first.
  19. Re: Kinley I think the goal in drafting a "surprise pick" is that you're more likely to be able to trade for them instead of wasting a roster spot.
  20. The Twins blowout pitcher in the post-Gladden years, if my memory is correct.
  21. Was building them a stadium not enough? For the most part the Saints are great. I'm also not opposed to subsidies, but when a business asks for multiple handouts it bothers me. This reminds me of Cossettas.
