  1. I disagree, strongly. First, are we in a full-blown rebuild? Second, the time to move JD is midseason, especially if both he and Miranda are having strong seasons.
  2. Trade them for what? Seriously ... do you expect to bring back pitching that will amount to anything, which is what we need? Honestly, this is really short-sighted. We don't know if Miranda will be major league capable, and yes, we need to get him in there. The time to trade Donaldson is mid-season if both he and Miranda are performing. Sano ... I have no answer for that one, but he will bring back nothing of need in a trade.
  3. ftfy That's the cynic in me. To keep the fanbase engaged requires two things ... players fans want to root for and a winning team. Without pitching doubtful the latter will happen. While Arraez is a fan favorite, so are Polanco, Buxton, Donaldson (at least for me), Garver, Ryan and Ober ... and I think some of the up and comers could fill that void, too ... Miranda, for one. But I think the common point most, including you, are making ... depends on the return. And it does.
  4. I thought we should have traded Arraez after his first season. If we are going to make a trade for pitching, we are going to have to give up someone and Arraez, in a package, is probably the best player to bring back something. But he is a favorite of many, so it would definitely hurt, but a great return could soften the blow
  5. Your two posts, one after the other, are probably the best posts of the day ... lol
  6. Donaldson won’t be the reason Miranda doesn’t come up. Miranda plays the same as Arraez. The fact that we have Arraez is more the reason, imo. Miranda plays 2nd, 3rd and some 1B. He’ll either come up when there are injuries or if Arraez is moved
  7. I think that makes no sense, when you have Kirilloff, Larnach and Rooker (as of now), and even Gordon, and Arraez in a pinch. Sano is not going to be a full time DH, even though he will spend a chunk of time there, but so will Donaldson, Garver, Arraez and a few others. In his whole minor league career, Miranda has played LF a total of 3 times for a total of 25 innings. While I get that LF seems to be the place to play just about anyone, if that is where you are going to put Miranda, he is going to start the year in AAA to learn the position. And I think I read here somewhere on here, there was a good reason to not play Miranda out there more than that, so it is likely not going to be a regular place for him.
  8. I think he’s played more 1st base than LF. And he’s played quite a bit at 2nd, which he has said is the position he likes best of all those he’s played. He has even played SS, but rarely.
  9. I think this is a very important statement to keep in mind. Was his breakout legit, and this is who he is going forward? Or will there be some regression back to what he has always been? Unless you are absolutely confident that the former is true, he will start the year in AAA and will be the first called up due to injury. Arraez could be traded and should be used as a trade chip, but Miranda could be, too, if everyone sees his year last year as legit. But if everyone is healthy, not sure I see Miranda on the roster to start the season, We won’t and shouldn’t move on from Donaldson until we know for certain of who we have with Miranda as a 3rd baseman
  10. Anyone seen the West Side Story remake by Spielberg?
  11. Human interest stories are always a good thing to put in the mix. As we tell many on TD ... if you don't like it, don't read it or go to the next article.
  12. More likely he gets poached and goes on to win a WS with another team and everyone here starts screaming about how we gave up on him too soon
  13. Unless they sign someone else, which I doubt, it looks like what gman said above ... Gordon for a spot start here and there to give Buxton a day off. Even Kep could do that less often. If Gordon hits the IL, Celestino will be called up
  14. I think Celestino will be ready to take over the role sooner than 2023. He really came on strong at the end of 2021. A little more AAA seasoning and I think he will be ready to fill that role mid-season. For half a season I don't think Gordon and Kepler are that stinky.
  15. Gordon, Kepler until Celestino is ready mid-season
  16. How soon for Celestino to be considered the backup? If at all? Another season of ... seasoning?
  17. Yep. As I said in another thread, this contract is the compromise between Superstar Buxton and Oft-Injured Buxton. If he were just the former, he’d get double that, and still a no-injury guarantee. He could stay healthy (probably not), but he could. This is a happy median contract, imo. Very smartly done.
  18. The way I look at it, this contract is the median between Buxton’s ability to be a super star and his injury risk. It’s very team friendly, yet gives comfort and stability to Buxton. It was always going to be difficult finding that happy median for everyone involved and I think that’s what they did. I mean, if there were no injury history, Buxton would probably be able to command twice what he got. And there would still be no guarantee that something wouldn’t happen and we likely wouldn’t have been able to sign him, let alone room for another good signing, So what we are seeing is the compromise. I think it’s a very smart deal the FO made and one Buxton is happy with. And one this fan is happy with, too.
  19. I’ll get excited if it’s a done deal. BUT, if it becomes a done deal, i definitely take SWR, Martin and Ray over Berrios.
  20. You make very valid points. But I think that people just want to enjoy the here and now for today and not do the deep dive about down the road and all the what ifs of value. You should take this post and create a blog.
  21. Lol ... this time of year, you can find that quite a few places
