    They are certainly offsetting profits in other businesses with losses on the Twins for tax purposes, but that doesn't mean that they WANT to lose $ on the Twins or are somehow better off overall financially for having done so. Some people believe this and they're simply wrong. Also, I find the idea that they lost that much fairly believable. The attendance was down substantially and their TV contract is pathetic relative to most other teams. They can afford $140 million payroll if they're drawing 30K/game. They can't if they're drawing 20K. That doesn't mean anyone needs to feel sorry for them. They're rich and they'll remain rich losing a bit of $$ on the Twins. But I think the "They're lying!" takes are way overblown. It's not like they put out a press release. It's a Forbes estimated, but it's probably pretty close.

    No need. We'll win a lot of 1-0 games on Joey Gallo HR's backed by this ace rotation.

    You won't. So we'll trade Royce Lewis and Jose Miranda for a #3 starter with two years of team control in a couple years. But we'll "win" that trade. Believe me.

    Since we're playing pick-a-stat, For April, Lopez had a 0.39 ERA. From May 1st to the end of the season, he had a 4.25 ERA. Dylan Bundy: April: 2.97 ERA. The rest of the season: 5.23. Chris Archer: April: 2.93 ERA. The rest of the season: 4.84.

    What's confusing? The rotation yesterday was Gray, Ryan, Mahle, Ober and Maeda. Today it's Gray, Ryan, Mahle, Lopez and either Ober or Meada. I get it was a general comment on the team, but bringing up Bundy or Archer in regards to this trade is irrelevant.

    That's true. But then it's an upgrade over Winder/Varland/SWR. Archer and Bundy are irrelevant. They're not here, and no other cheap crappy veteran was going to make the starts Lopez will now make. If he makes 30 starts, probably 20 of them are in place of Maeda or Ober with the rest Winder etc.

    Lopez isn't directly replacing Archer or Bundy though. He's replacing either Maeda or Ober, which makes the upgrade pretty muted IMO.

    Whether he's a better hitter than Correa is not really the point. This makes the offense significantly worse while making the pitching marginally better. The 2023 team is not improved by this trade. The 2028 team might be, but then what are we doing signing Correa and holding onto Gray/Mahle etc.? Are we trying to win now or not? Contending teams don't trade the reigning AL batting champ and they don't trade their closer on Opening Day. This front office perpetually doesn't know if it's coming or going.

    Trading your best hitter for a mild upgrade to your rotation doesn't improve the 2023 club no matter what. We have no set DH and Larnach and Gallo are not locks to be healthy or effective. A healthy Kiriloff would have gotten full playing time Arreaz or no Arreaz. But I'm sure the A ball prospects we got will be exciting for whoever is running the team in 2028 after Falvey is long gone (hopefully.)

    Bad move that will go over like a fart in Church with the fan base. Not that they care.

    I hate this for 2023, even if the prospect pays off some day. Our offense stinks, so trade our best hitter for another #3 starter. I can't wait until this front office is gone.

    I'm still against trading Arreaz or Polanco at least right now. The offense is still the weak spot of this team and Arreaz and Miranda can split 1B/DH duties. If the Marlins are willing to deal Lopez, I think Kepler and prospects can get it done. Or maybe Kepler/Farmer/prospects.

    Is that an overpay? Yes. Would overpaying by a few million when you you're $40 million under last year's payroll and the list of things to spend it on is shrinking daily have really mattered? No. I'd take Taylor back in a heartbeat. I don't care whether we "win" the signing or not.

    Falvey's job is no tougher than 20 other GM's, he's just really bad at it. We believed Buxton, Larnach, Polanco etc. would be available down the stretch because they told us that. If they knew that was not the case and it was a lost cause, then why did they trade for Mahle, Lopez and Fulmer? Clearly they believed they could win the division. Trading Correa while leading your division, especially when you've lead it almost all year and there's no great team chasing you is just not done. They'd have been torched by the fans and media and had a mutiny in the clubhouse and rightfully so.

    Trading Correa would have been fine if we weren't contending. We were in first place. You can't trade him in that case. It's not worth alienating the fan base and the clubhouse to net one nice prospect, and that's all he'd have gotten you.

    The issue isn't signing Correa, it's this front-office forever sitting out free agency while competitors fill their holes. If they want to salvage a team that at least has a shot at the central: Trade Kepler for Eduardo Escobar (probably have to involve a 3rd team). Sign Taylor Rogers (2/$16-2/$20) Re-sign Fulmer (2/$10) Sign Eovaldi (2/$30?) Trade Pagan for a box of balls.     As long as the price isn't steep. Yes. He Makes $10 million so that would save the Mets $15 million with the luxury tax. Pagan for Escobar straight up.

    If they didn't want this to leak, they could have blamed postponing the press conference on travel/weather etc. That is the only thing that makes you go hmm. Still probably a 95% chance the deal gets done.

    Rumors that Falvey increased his offer upon hearing this news are false.

    They didn't trade Urshela for Farmer. I have zero problem with them trading for Farmer or him being on the team. He's a nice upgrade over Palcious (sp), Adrianza and co. But he should not start and we did not need to trade Urshela for a bag of balls to afford him.
