  1. Of note: The intent really isn't that Kiriloff is a bench player but that we can only count on one of him or Buxton to be healthy, so if they both are, they platoon RF with Kiriloff also playing some 1B/LF and Buxton also playing some CF.
  2. The assumption is not that they're pocketing 50% but spending 50% things other than player payroll and it makes sense. Beyond obvious non-player payroll, travel etc. to their credit they've spent tens of millions per year on average on Target Field upgrades etc. If they're taking a big revenue hit from TV, it doesn't all have to come out of player payroll. Perhaps the 2024 Target Field upgrades will be scaled down or delayed.
  3. Yes. But it's their guideline that they have always cited. They should have at least somewhat increased attendance/suite sales/in stadium advertising next year.

  5. It's not really a "theory". Forbes estimated they lost $27 million or so in 2022. They probably lost at least that much in 2023 even with higher ticket sales/play-off revenue due to the increase in payroll. So let's say they lost $35 million. I still can't get a violin out for them because the value of the franchise goes up more than that every year. They should be willing to lose $ when they are in a win now window and make it back when they're in a rebuilding window.
  6. I think the point is that the local TV $$ is not going to from $55 million to $0. It's probably going to go from $55 million to say $30-40 million. That's not an excuse to cut the payroll from $155 to $120 million. At 50% of revenue spent on payroll, it's a reason so cut from $155 to $145. If that's what they were planning, they wouldn't be leaking out articles about it on November 7th though.
  7. Pretty much this. If they were just cutting $10-15 million off, I don't think anyone would be up in arms, but they wouldn't even need to leak anything about it. Just let the payroll land at $140-145. The fact they're leaking this tells me they intend to cut deep to $120 million or so and it makes them look terrible.
  8. Provous to TV should be a no-brainer. I have nothing against Marney Gelner but I don't think you go straight to head play-by-play for an MLB team having done no baseball play-by-play previously. I know she's done some Lynx games but I think having done the same sport matters. Further, I can't imagine her wanting that travel schedule anyway.
  9. It would likely work the same as Vikings preseason games. Channel 5/9 whoever pays the Vikings a premium and then resells broadcasts rights to channels in Duluth/Rochester/Fargo/Sioux Falls. There's so many digital sub-channels now it's a virtual lock that they would get on in all those markets. There would also obviously be a streaming option.
  10. Bally's/Diamond's issue is that they massive overpaid Fox Sports for the acquisition. And they really were upside down in some of the MLB/Other contracts but the Twins weren't one of them.
  11. Castro day to day. Either Brooks Lee or Lewis if he suffered a LT injury.
  12. I'm not vehemently opposed to trading him, but I think the return will be similar to what we gave up to get him, which wasn't much. I'd keep him as a bench bat/1B until Kiriloff comes back. Kepler is more likely to fetch a decent return and that's who I would look to trade. It would also free up more $$.
  13. It wasn't a ball. And even if it was, you can't take a pitch that close with the season on the line.
  14. A fitting end. You can't take that. Jesus.
  15. Ugh. Thought we had a lead off walk in the bag.
  16. He gave himself up so it didn't matter.
  17. Blows out knee tripping over 3rd base because #MinnesotaSports.
  18. That was the perfect time to drop down a bunt.
  19. Never thought I would desire to see what Vazquez could do at the plate instead...
  20. Such inept at bats. He's not even breaking a sweat.
  21. Ending the most embarrassing streak in sports history counts for something. But now it gives this regime at least two more years and we aren't winning anything more than this as long as they're in charge. So it's kind of a steep price to pay.
  22. Why didn't Dusty pull his starter after two? He gave up a HR and a double! The spreadsheet said....
  23. I'm not sure how to answer a theoretical. Routinely managing games this way is asking for it to blow up in your face. If you use 6 relievers on purpose, chances are one of them is going to have an off night. Managing a play-off game totally different than the other 162 is foolish. Short leash is one thing, this is another. Didn't work for the Blue Jays, didn't work tonight. And if it somehow does, the exhausted pen will probably bite them in game 5.
