Firing only Levine while Falvey stays would be a joke. This is Falvey's team and he's the one whose head should role. Whether Levine stays or not is a separate discussion but a complete housecleaning is in order IMO.
This team isn't going anywhere, so this isn't the worst thing Falvey has done. But it does reinforce that he should be fired after the season. He's had seven years. He's failed. Enough already.
There is a point regarding it not being just Gray vs Keuchel. I don't really see this coming down to winning the division by 1 game. Either we will get our %%^^ together and win it by 4 + or we'll collapse again and lose it by that much IMO. So I don't think trading Gray flips our chances of making the play-offs much. But he would be one of our 4 play-off starters, so there is the downgrade from say Ober to Maeda in game 4 of a play-off to consider, even if you feel that Gray/Ryan/Ober/Lopez are all pretty even.
Potentially it is. If we continue to get the Gray from July, it might be a push. I'm not a fan of trading Gray as I don't think the haul will be that massive. But I hate to lose Kuechel for nothing and see him go 5-0 with a 3.00 ERA somewhere else too.
The picture quality was bad and the audio was off by almost a full second for all of Saturday's game and part of yesterday's game. Went away about halfway through. I just got a new TV and thought it was the issue until I tried watching on the old TV and had the same problem.
Unless this turns around, in the off-season Falvey, Levine, Rocco and the entire staff should be out. If they do nothing now and their "big move" in the off-season is to fire the hitting coach, God help them.
Nelson Cruz is available. But seriously, why wouldn't you give the Saints coach a try? They scored 20 yesterday while the Twins scored 3 or less for the 50th time.
They can't "sell" while in/near first place. It would be an insult to the clubhouse and the fan base. And the only significant asset they have to sell is Gray. I'll take 2 months of Gray, a play-off appearance (no matter how short) and a draft pick over whatever the "haul" is for trading him and the negative fallout with the rest of the team and the damage done with the fans.
That said, it's hard to justify adding much, because this team clearly isn't winning a World Series. Add a Fulmer type cheap reliever and a RH 3B/OF bat if you can. Then let it ride. FWIW I would not consider trading Gallo/Kepler "selling" especially if they are part of getting one of the above back.
Vazquez is not tradable with this contract. Polanco is not tradable while he's hurt. Gallo has zero trade value. The only valuable trade piece they have is Sonny Gray and extremely marginal pieces like Solano. Going into "sell" mode isn't going to net much.
Max is bad, has limited to no upside and will not be here next year. Buxton has significant upside if he gets hot and will be here for 5 more years. It's not even a close call who should go out the door first.
Reusse mentioned on a podcast that Tony Oliva had a meeting with a player or two recently. I think Buxton for sure. I doubt he's up for any formal role but a new voice with him around to supplement couldn't hurt.
Sending AK down while keeping Kepler and Gallo on the roster would be ridiculous. Neither provide anything outside of some decent defense on Gallo's part, but it's not worth the complete black hole in the line-up.
You can't just IL Buxton because you're mad at him. He's not hurt. He doesn't need to play every day if he's not hitting.
I don't care whether Larnach or Miranda "earned" a call-up. At least they're young and might improve. Gallo and Kepler are what they are. And Miranda's been hitting well lately.
Buxton's as healthy as he's going to get and unless AK is hurt, there's no reason to send him down.
Fire Rocco and Popkins. DFA Kepler and Gallo.
Get Wallner and one of Larnach or Miranda up here.
Same. Not wasting time or $$ on this garbage team right now. At this point, the only positive that can come out of the season is tanking bad enough that Joe Pohlad and company actually take action on this incompetent regime.
Sometime change for the sake of change is a good thing. I know people are tired of hearing it, but someone on the staff should lose their job over this lifeless, sad team.
