  1. Thank you for explaining all that A's stuff in item #1. Now go get 'em, Sens.
  2. I can't tell the difference between Magill and Morin. Aren't they the same guy? **Edit** Whoever it was, I'm glad he pitched around the Dangerous Chris Herrmann. **Another edit** Oops, and I see he pitched around the Dangerous Robbie Grossman as well.
  3. Heh... not the college, just a town team for summer. They had 2 in Crookston, as I recall, and we'd go around to places like Argyle and Kennedy and such. And, of course, always to the Viking, where they had some DJ from the UK... how exotic.
  4. Heh... did you play for the Reds, or the Blues? We were the Blues.
  5. Man, this game. I always give a listen to the oppo team's mlbtv crew, whom I usually prefer to DickNBert. But between those lame dudes and the cowbell, I switched back- just in time for Bert's latest Harry Carey impression: "That's almost like what Matt Kepler hit..." Lemme try the radio feed....
  6. Heh... ran around there with the Madigan brothers, summer break from UND. Circa 1979-80 or so? The memory for dates fades away, but the memory for disco tunes never wanes.
  7. Sheesh, Jake.... Problem with the middle finger, eh? Me too, suddenly... Here, let me show ya...
  8. Haaaaa! Blast from the past- that summer I played town ball in Northern Minny - We'd pop into the Viking Disco in Crookston, still in the uni's, the DJ would cue up that tune, and we'd hit the dance floor... Back when I could hit a dance floor standing...
  9. I'm glad Jake gave up a hit this inning. I'd hate to see him throw around 200 pitches if a no-hitter was still in the balance around inning 7 or 8. And it would probably be approaching midnight by then, too. West Coast time.
  10. I dunno, I might even take that over the "Wooo" people who show up at games all over the place these days.
  11. For the Oaklands: Psst- LF and C sure look familiar.... Oakland A's (46-39) Marcus Semien, SS Matt Chapman, 3B Matt Olson, 1B Khris Davis, DH Mark Canha, RF Ramón Laureano, CF Robbie Grossman, LF Chris Herrmann, C Franklin Barreto, 2B Daniel Mengden, RHP (2-1, 4.03 ERA)
  12. I'm grateful for all the work that gets put into these reports- they're always a good read, and show a lot of promise for the Twins' future! On a side note: could there possibly be a better baseball name than Willie Joe Garry, Jr.?
  13. This is such tragic news, whether you knew the young man or not. It's always sadder when a young life is cut down in springtime of life. This poem came to mind when I heard the news. It's hard to read without a tear. To an Athlete Dying Young by- A. E. Houseman The time you won your town the race We chaired you through the market-place; Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high. Today, the road all runners come, Shoulder-high we bring you home, And set you at your threshold down, Townsman of a stiller town. Smart lad, to slip betimes away From fields where glory does not stay, And early though the laurel grows It withers quicker than the rose. Eyes the shady night has shut Cannot see the record cut, And silence sounds no worse than cheers After earth has stopped the ears. Now you will not swell the rout Of lads that wore their honours out, Runners whom renown outran And the name died before the man. So set, before its echoes fade, The fleet foot on the sill of shade, And hold to the low lintel up The still-defended challenge-cup. And round that early-laurelled head Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead, And find unwithered on its curls The garland briefer than a girl’s.
  14. Well, it is widely known that this is the only all-star game on the planet where the teams actually play hard and try to win. I'm disappointed too, but hardly surprised. (see: Kent Hrbek, et. al.) I'm just glad the days are gone (for now) when we have to root for the Dave Engle/ Ron Coomer/ GottaPickOneGuyFromMinny selections.
  15. Those day games happen in my middle of the night- so usually miss 'em. But awoke this morning to find the game still going on! Re:this headline-- Tell you what- there are long days at work, long days of crappy weather, but long days of baseball.....? Take it in a heartbeat. How about that Thorpe curve? Holy......!
  16. So good those guys are back in the lineup- wow, when it rained it poured for our outfield this stretch, eh? Too bad Wade couldn't have another sip of coffee or two, but I'd already seen more than enough of Cave. He was such a pleasant surprise last season, not so much this year. On another ex-Yankee-Twin note: Tyler Austin seems to be having a hell of a time getting ABs with the Giants, too- which is quizzical, with so many of their regulars having truly sucky seasons so far.
  17. Heh... back-to-back 13-0 thumpings! Against the O's (*cackling*) It's like Unitas threw a couple of TD's at Memorial Stadium back in the day- and Colts beat the Browns two days in a row!
  18. Welp. It ain't over yet, of course, but... After that 18 inning meat grinder, in which the offense chose to take the evening off, and in view of our last couple of weeks, I would have been surprised with a series win this weekend against an up-and-coming Sox club. (And that was a helluva sentence to type, with teeth gnashing as they were). A gorgeous Saturday morning here, so other stuff to do, but checked in to this game- and a couple of questions I'm sure others share: 1) I know Polanco is the AL batting leader- but why is it every time I see him at bat, I never see a hit? Do those only come in day games which happen at 2AM over here? 2) Could we get anything out of a package that includes Schoop, and just go ahead and anoint Arraez the regular 2B? 3) Pieces in the minors- Wiel, and one of Rooker/Raley/Larnach/Gordon? And I'm not talking for MadBum, either.
  19. Watch out. Some of those young Sox are starting to figure things out, plus we're going to get our first look at Giolito since he turned the page this year and became such a stud starter. This could be a heck of a tough series, especially with so many key guys hurt- although Tim Anderson's injury is going to have them missing their catalyst.
