  1. Holy cow. I'll pass on that contract. Welcome to the Seattle Mariners Chris Davis!
  2. I'll do it one more time and say nice line sir. Made me laugh
  3. 12-14 years? Let's see if he can get to the majors first before we talk about him pitching until he's 40.....
  4. That's my exact thoughts. If Span needs a place to sign a one year, take a chance on me kind of deal, sure bring him on board. I agree with you that he probably doesn't need to prove his worth. If anything, he's probably looking for that last big payday before he returns a la Torii Hunter in 2020
  5. A couple of Kill quotes I'm reading on Twitter.... "My doctor told me, if I didn't move on with my life I may be a guy that don't think too good down the road. I want to be able to think." "When I walked off the practice field last night a part of me died." Sounds like he's been experiencing seizures again. Sad to read. He seems like a very like-able person. Hope he gets his health under control.
  6. Wow stunning news this morning. Jerry Kill retires effective immediately for health reasons. Tracy Claes will take over as interim head coach. Huge blow to the program.
  7. Every time the Royals are down they find a way to claw back into the game. Amazing
  8. Torii received all of these standing ovations because he was a good baseball player. Nothing more than that. I doubt he has any cult following purely from his opinions off the field. It will be interesting to see how Torii will be viewed in a public light now that his playing days are behind him. The circumstances are different, but we've seen Curt Schilling go from a WS hero to a zero now that his opinions are the main focus...
  9. No. It's merely the difference in positions they play. Plenty of OF out there to trade for. Catchers as we all know are pretty scarce to find.
  10. I was just about to link the Deadspin article that outlines this. I'll link this one too in regards to Mike's response.... http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2010/03/10/torii-hunter-black-dominican-players-are-imposters/
  11. I am too young to remember and appreciate the Kirby days, so Torii was the first impact player I have followed as a Twins fan. I remember watching Baseball Tonight, and most every night, Torii made a Web Gem play in CF. Whether it was robbing a HR, making a diving catch, or throwing someone out at home plate, he was a lot of fun to watch growing up. Not a lot of players can say they played at the highest level of their sport for 19 years and leave on their own terms. Congrats on a great career.
  12. If Curt Schilling can be employable as a baseball analyst, Torii has that gig in the bag....
  13. That's certainly what I'll remember about Flip. I never got to meet him personally, nor do I care much about basketball. However whenever I did listen in to Flip's Friday Funkadelic with Dan Barreiro, he was very good and gave way more of an insight to the organization than any other person I can remember. It's tough not to cheer for a guy like that.
  14. He looks pretty comparable to Herrmann or Fryer from an offensive perspective. We can do better than just targeting a .575 OPS player.
  15. Yeah not sure what happened with that link from Business Insider.... This link shows the Timberpups at 25.5 wins.. I'd still probably bet the under giving the circumstances with the team.... http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/154964596/nba-win-total-2015-16-vegas-sportsbook-thunder
  16. I'm a little confused. Half way through the 2015 season we discussed the cost of Lucroy, and it was a hefty price tag (Kepler, Berrios were thrown out as options at the time). That was even during his brutal 1st half. He rebounded in the 2nd half back to his accustomed .800 OPS and is still on a very attractive team friendly contract. And now his price has gone down? Highly doubt that's the case when there will be other teams in the mix for his services. However I would still be on the phone with the new GM because he's a clear upgrade over what the Twins have. Berrios is off the table, but I'd still have the feature piece of a trade be either Plouffe, Gibson, or Kepler + prospect(s)
  17. Agreed. AJ is a fine plan B or plan C, but by no means should the Twins go ahead and fill up the private jet with fuel to pick him up immediately when FA period begins.
  18. It's gonna be bad. We're preparing for major flooding here in Austin, and we're not even on the path of the hurricane.
  19. Found a link that has Sportsbook's over/under wins totals for all teams. Minnesota Timberwolves at 28. http://www.businessinsider.com/vegas-win-totals-nba-season-2015-10
  20. Last year we saw Lester Oliveros transition to a starter during the season, and flounder. Meanwhile we saw Trevor May transition to the bullpen and succeed. What goes into determining who can make that switch from the bullpen to a starter and vice versa?
  21. I'm okay with either option; those options being trading our established players and going with a full youth movement, or signing/trading for established players to make the next step of being a playoff club. What I don't want is to remain stagnate and assume that there will be improvements from the current crop of players we have. The article that was linked focuses on shedding inflated salaries and not signing FA's to enormous contracts. The article forgets to mention that they were also very aggressive at the trade deadline, with the acquisitions of Cespedes (.942 OPS as a Met!) Clippard, Uribe, and Johnson..... They may have been patient over the last couple of years, but showed they can be aggressive when they see an opportunity to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
  22. Agreed on your last point that the Price, Cueto, Zimmerman, pick your poison FA Ace option will never happen. Since the organization has a limited history of making their own ace as well, trading for one may be the best method. Before I talk about my point, since you feel the Twins are in rebuild mode, do you think they're going to be a playoff team next season? Or win fewer than 83 games? I may be skeptical but I'm not sure how the Twins can take the next step to being a 90+ win playoff team without taking a risk and acquiring someone better than the other 8 options on hand. It's going to be difficult to replicate the luck and timely hitting we saw last season...
  23. I also look at Rick Vaughn as a comparison. Dude is only 5'10" and threw 97 consistently...... Is that not the same??
  24. Make your own ace is the ideal option since their cost is minimal and years are controlled. There's very little evidence of that happening during the TR era other than Johan. Berrios is the next best chance, who has zero MLB experience. I don't think he's going to come up to the MLB and have a 2006 Liriano campaign next season, or even in 2017. So how are the Twins supposed to take this next step to being a 90+ win baseball club next season? Or are we back to building for 2 years from now?
  25. Murphy's next contract is inflating with every at bat he has... Which team is taking the bait? Over/under 1 year until we read his name in an article titled "MLB's Worst Contracts"
