  1. Those are certainly 3 poor decisions that come to mind. To expand on Stauffer, I found it strange that he went to AAA for a couple of rehab appearances, got lit up, and immediately got called back up to the MLB. Not sure why he earned that sort of trust early on. Also, since this may be our last time doing this, Brian Duensing. I will say he was serviceable the 2nd half of the year, but he blew quite a few opportunities early on. It got to the point where he only came into the game if the Twins were down by 7+ runs. I hope he catches on somewhere else, just not with the Twins.
  2. From April through the end of July, SS was a black hole in the lineup and the field. Kudos to Escobar for exceeding expectations and giving us what appears to be a solution for the position in 2016.
  3. He was a Twins killer for a long, long time. 30-19 career record against us, and is the only active pitcher with 30 or more wins against one team. Like other have mentioned, I'll always remember him not wasting any time on the mound and refusing to let batters get comfortable at the plate with their routines. Whenever Buerhle took the hill it was guaranteed to be a 2.5 hour or less ball game. Congrats on a great career and all the best in retirement!

    Fall TV

    Yep. Epic brain fart there...
  5. If it's either Gonsalves or Stewart as the 3rd piece in the trade, it's probably close to the price. Who knows... If they get close to a WS berth and lose Murphy in FA, they'd be a pretty good fit for a trade.

    Fall TV

South Park (on its 19th season!!) is a home run every week with no signs of slowing down. Stan Marsh IMO is the funniest character on TV. How to Get Away with Murder is starting off strong for season 2. Modern Family is also a home run every week. Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Sarah Hyland. Need I say more?
  7. This is a little off topic, but wanted to piggy back off of your thought. I agree Polanco probably doesn't excite the Mets enough, but Dozier certainly could more than Polanco. What would you think of a Dozier for Plawecki + a top 5-10 org prospect? Ideally finding a way to get Steven Matz if possible.
  8. You're probably right, his offensive numbers look a little too much like Butera. I don't really have a preference on who they target, as long as the C is relatively young with potential.
  9. That has the makings of a roster that's going for it. I just don't have confidence that TR would go that route.. I do agree that it's Jepsen's turn to be the closer and phase out Perkins in that role. C is a big upgrade I'd like to make. Personally I'm not too excited of Weiters. I'd like to find a way to get a younger option like Susac, Plawecki, Hedges, etc. Plouffe or Gibson should be a feature piece to acquire one of them + prospect(s) All I ask for the rotation is to find a way to get rid of Nolasco, and bring up Berrios immediately after whatever the date is that his service time's extended a year.
  10. That's just sad to hear. As a culture we need to view mental health and seeking treatment in a more positive light. There's nothing taboo about it, and becoming more common over the years.
  11. I think there's multiple prongs to this issue. The easy access to acquiring guns is one issue that should be fixed. Mental health is also a key to this issue. You can't tell me someone who goes through with planning and implementing a mass shooting isn't a sick individual. Finally, I think the media coverage is the final prong. These sick people live their whole lives unnoticed, and when they commit these unthinkable crimes, now their face is plastered all over the Internet, TV, and radio. All of these problems need to be addressed, but just like politics, we have an agenda to talk about the issue we care about the most.
  12. Come on Rangers!
  13. They haven't released the identity of the shooter yet, and I hope the press takes the high road and refuse to release that information.
  14. The shooting happened in Roseburg, OR. A little town of 20,000 people. The company I work with helps Roseburg Forest Products with their hiring needs.. This is tragic.
  15. After yesterday's events, we may have to refresh ourselves on this board that unwritten baseball rules are in fact, really, really not smart.
  16. Sounds like that's the case Mike. If someone cuts you off in traffic, by the unwritten baseball rules, you are in the right to ram that driver off the road. I mean, we're all just competitive, testosterone filled drivers at the end of the day. I really didn't like how that driver showed me up changing lanes in front of me.
  17. Meanwhile, the number of HBP per game in the MLB was very consistent from about 1915 until 1995, ranging from 0.15-0.25. After 1995, the number skyrocketed to 0.3 and hasn't decreased below that level since. Are we maybe taking these silly unwritten rules too seriously? Source: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/bat.shtml EDIT:Ugh, I don't know why the link isn't working. If you're curious to know, go to baseball reference and you can see it in the MLB Batting Encyclopedia
  18. Fighting in hockey is being phased out of the game, because at the end of the day, it doesn't serve a purpose. Here's the number of fights per game the last 5 years 14/15: 0.32 13/14: 0.38 12/13: 0.48 11/12: 0.44 10/11: 0.52 The game is changing, and values skill over enforcers now more than ever. Even old school hockey fans are turning over a new leaf. Why can't baseball do the same with these silly "unwritten rules"? EDIT: Source - http://www.hockeyfights.com/stats/
  19. I'm sure some team will give him $5-10 million to be a #4/5 in their rotation. Just hope and pray that it's not the Twins again. There have been worse pitchers that have worn Twins uniforms in recent memory, but I can only think of a 2 month stretch (May & June) out of 3 years that I felt confident in Pelf... Good luck in your future endeavors, and I'll be excited when he throws duds like last night against the Twins next year!
  20. Awesome. Thanks for tossing us a bone, Oakland!
  21. Welcome to Twins Daily sportsdiamond, but you have much to learn if you're proposing Mauer to C, young grasshopper.
  22. Well Platoon, the last time someone else got through twice I had to fire my intern. But I like this intern. He always shares red hot Twins takes right after he's done playing MLB The Show. Why not, it's a slow night, and I have a hankering for Twins talk. Duensing is a good start in any trade discussion. Do you know how rare it is to find a left handed pitcher that throws 92 mph, with the last name Duensing?? It's a gold mine. Now If I'm the Cleveland GM, I also demand for Hunter. They have playoff aspirations, and need LEADERSHIP to get there. It may also take Nolasco. That's the toughest pill to swallow, but for Lindor, I'd consider it heavily...
  23. The A's have been busy planning their golf vacations all week..
  24. Platoon, always good to hear from you. 3 time caller? That's God dang impressive and puts you on pace with the regulars like Bark, Mike, North, and Jaime!Dude!. Torii seems to be the topic o' the day on TD. To answer your question, not only is he the greatest Twin ever, I'd venture to say he's the greatest baseball player currently BREATHING. Let's break down the ways that this is true: BA - #1 in MLB for ALL players age 40 and older. HR - Also #1 in MLB for ALL players age 40 and older. Baserunning - ELITE. I would wager any dollar amount on him against any MLB player in a 4 yard race with a 1.5 second head start. Most importantly, Leadership: SO ELITE, it's impossible to quantify it's true value. Teammates merely in his presence acquire unstoppable baseball skills; and play at absurd levels above their capabilities. In fact Platoon, I heard through the grapevine that the powers were bestowed on players IF, and only if, Torii were to chest bump them while in mid-air! Once Torii left a team, they continued the chest bump tradition. But the players regressed to their normal selves, and the team started losing more games. Why is that?? Magic?
