  1. I don't necessarily disagree, although I think there's some pretty sound logic to Rocco's thinking. Regardless, this is Major League Baseball. If a guy is asked to pitch, it's his job and his job only to get outs. Talent isn't an excuse when you're on the 26 man roster. You're there to get the job done.
  2. Good game for the Twins. It’s nice to see Buxton’s bat warming up. Wondering why Kaat wasn’t in the booth…
  3. I tend to think it’s good to draft high quality college bats early, because they pan out at a higher rate. But man, I really hope they don’t take another DH in the first round. I’m hoping the Georgia Tech catcher falls in their lap. Otherwise I’d like to see them take one of the infielders with good hit tools.
  4. Interesting. I’ve had the exact opposite experience watching this team. I think they’re at least as fun to watch as the Bomba Squad, and probably the most fun since the Piranha teams back in the early years of Gardy’s tenure. These guys go out and play their asses off every night. I love it.
  5. Personally, I think the one who dashed hopes and killed spirits was Bundy. Baldelli probably should have pulled him, but ultimately the guy on the mound has to get hitters out.
  6. Well, I disagree that the twins have a (recent) history of causing new pitchers to under-perform. Odorizzi is the obvious counterexample. Joe Ryan is looking like one, too. On its face, a trade for Paddack seems like a solid move. He’s still young and has a few years of control, and there’s still plenty of upside. It’ll depend on what they give up.
  7. I’m a bit idiosyncratic on how I think lineups should be put together. If I were in charge, I’d order it from the best to worst hitter in the starting nine. The table setter-cleanup guy relationship usually goes away after the first inning or two, and I’d want to increase the odds that my top hitters bat late in the game. My lineup would go something like this: 1. Buxton-CF 2. Correa-SS 3. Polanco-2B 4. Kirilloff-1B 5. Arraez-LF 6. Kepler-RF 7. Sano-DH 8. Jeffers-C 9. Urshela/Miranda-3B Lots of debate about how the middle slots could go based on my criteria.
  8. God level take. Never change, Twins fans.
  9. I guess Stewart on a minor league deal might be worth a shot. Other than that…
  10. True, but his AA season in 2019 wasn't all that impressive. I just think he has a long way to go in order to reach his potential, and there are some pretty big unanswered questions that aren't helped by the lockout.
  11. I really hope Lewis succeeds, but I think the odds are now stacked pretty heavily against him. He hasn't played in 2-something years, and his offensive output was not impressive when he had regular playing time. His swing mechanics were a complete mess before the pandemic/injury. Hopefully he's fixed the leg kick, but we won't get a sense of that until the lockout is over. We also don't know if he can run anymore. I'm guessing we shouldn't expect a 65-70 run tool when he comes back. Again, hope I'm wrong and he's our shortstop for 15 years.
  12. Harold Baines deserves it more than A.J. Pierzynski, and Baines doesn’t really deserve it.
  13. Could be. I wonder if he just went back and forth with the Twins, saw they weren’t interested in even approaching a market rate contract, and assumed other teams operate the same way? Or maybe he didn’t anticipate being traded. Who knows. At the end of the day, I think Toronto’s front office outsmarted ours, even though I like the return they got for Berrios.
  14. Well, after years of negotiating with the Twins, he signed in Toronto very quickly at a very affordable price. I agree the length of the deal is probably a factor. But jeez.
  15. I understand your point, but the problem is that the numbers we’ve seen don’t at all constitute a big contract. Jon Gray will sign a higher AAV deal this winter.
  16. My guess is that Falvey has a number in mind that he isn’t willing to cross, even by a little. Doogie tweeted that they came nowhere close to what Toronto offered for Berrios, so the same thing could be playing out here. Perhaps this is why his name keeps popping up in the rumor mill whenever a team has a front office vacancy…I’ve been a supporter of this front office, but the Buxton situation is very quickly unraveling my trust. It’s just such a no brainer. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. If the numbers we’ve seen are at all accurate, then clearly there’s a way. There just seems to be no will.
  17. Yeah, they should have hired Brian Snitker. The Braves just won the World Series and he’s their manager.
  18. Sounds like the Mets tagged Syndergaard with a qualifying offer. I think that should pretty much eliminate him from consideration. To me, it wouldn’t be wise to give up a draft pick for a guy on a bounce back deal. I think they should focus their free agency energies on one of the shortstops and work the trade market for pitching.
  19. Bad teams have only bad players, and good teams have only good players. Is that your point?
  20. I’ve mentioned this on a few other threads, but I think they should call the Rays about Glasnow. I’m guessing Tampa would rather not pay him to rehab all year, so the Twins could get a discount. It’s definitely a move for 2023, but I’d like to see them work something out.
  21. For a while in college, I worked at TCF Bank stadium on the operations crew. It was the inaugural year of the stadium, so it was pretty cool to have access to all the luxury areas and secret spots. We may or may not have raided the freezers in the DQ Club once or twice during the night cleaning shifts . . . Anyway, the Iowa bathroom thing was only about a year old at the time, so everyone remembered it. If we walked in on something like that at the Bank, we were supposed to radio the supervisor with a “code Iowa.” It never happened when I worked there—not among the fans, at least.
  22. I miss the $3 student nights. There was nothing better than setting down the text books, taking the bus from the U to the Dome on a Wednesday night, and enjoying the cheap ticket and dollar hot dogs. And maybe one or two . . . cokes.
  23. Rodriguez would be a good signing. Pineda seems like the most likely. Heany…I thought we wanted the FO to learn from the Shoemaker debacle.
  24. I have no knowledge of this “season” you are referring to.
  25. Man, I'd hate to be in a relationship with some folks here, given how frequently the past gets brought up.
