  1. Seems like a solid guy to target, to me. I think they should make an offer to one of the free agents, but Mondesi seems like the type of player they could circle back to if free agency doesn’t go their way. He’d be a decent stopgap for a year.
  2. None of them were hard throwing relievers with two surgeries to repair the same injury on their throwing arm in under a year. I’ll eat crow if Colina goes on to be something, but I doubt he’s going to.
  3. The two operations are a pretty big deal.
  4. Lots of guys—not necessarily lots of guys on the Twins!
  5. I honestly don’t understand the consternation over this move. Colina has had two surgeries for the same injury in less than a year, and he virtually hasn’t played since 2019. Lots of guys throw as hard as he does. What am I missing?
  6. Colina has pitched a third of an innings over the last two years. He has a history of pretty high walk rates and only one year of above average strikeout numbers in the minors. There’s some upside, but I won’t lose any sleep over this.
  7. I’ll give him an A+, just to see how people react.
  8. I agree that he’d bring back virtually nothing on his own, but he could be a decent piece in a larger package. I just think it’s short sighted to not at least see what’s out there if and when the DH expands. I’d guess there are a few NL teams who don’t currently have anyone they’d want DH’ing regularly. There’s certainly the Rule 5 to consider, but outside of that I don’t see much difference between releasing Rooker in November or in February/March. Like you (or was it someone else?) said, there are a handful of guys who are much clearer options for DFA or release at this point than Rooker.
  9. I think the idea is to see what you can get for him in a trade, since the NL will very likely adopt the DH next year. I think that’s a much better option than simply releasing him. If no one offers anything worth trading for, you can still cut Rooker.
  10. I think Chuck Knoblauch is probably a more apt comparison. Not perfect, but closer to Buxton’s situation than Ortiz.
  11. This is close to my thinking. Miranda had a terrific season. I question his ultimate upside. This is a “me” thing, but I can’t help of thinking about Kepler as a prospect. He always had good traits and started to put things together in the upper minors. At the time I thought they should have considered packaging him in a trade for pitching, because I was skeptical it would click for him in the majors. With the exception of 2019, it really hasn’t. I have similar feelings about Miranda. No good reason for it, just a gut feeling.
  12. Miranda is a much better trade piece than Donaldson. Hypothetically, if someone is getting traded, I say move him for some pitching.
  13. All I’ll say it’s that it’s a bummer for Maggi that he didn’t play. But MLB is about winning games, and no one has a right to even be on the roster. I’m sure he’s grateful for the experience and probably hopes to get another chance.
  14. How do you know it’s “dinking around” and not poor control? Why is a player not ultimately responsible for how he plays? By this logic, a player should never be benched, because his performance isn’t really his performance—it’s the coach’s. That’s absurd. And I’m also glad I’m not a coach.
  15. What should the pitching coach say? “Throw a strike”? Do you think these guys need to be told to throw strikes? If a guy gets ahead 0-2 and then, say, walks the batter, that’s on the guy throwing the baseball!
  16. How do you disentangle those two very separate categories? Is Wes Johnson the one throwing pitches down the middle of the plate? I haven’t seen that.
  17. Colome and Simmons are of course part of “the players.” So your chart puts the players at 45%. That’s not high enough.
  18. Your chart is weird, because it says everyone except the players are to blame.
  19. SSS, but it looks like the Math Boys were not actually morans for waiting a while to call up Moran. He’s not off to a good start and will have to prove himself in the spring.
  20. Indeed, think about who is doing the advertising. It’s not the Twins.
  21. Just to echo what others have said, it’s the Twins, and it’s not particularly close. The raw WAR totals both players have put up the last two seasons are far apart: 3.7 for Maeda to 0.5 for Graterol. Graterol will likely add to that before hitting free agency, but the Twins got a Chance Young runner up in a playoff year.
  22. Austudillo doesn’t catch anymore because he’s an awful catcher. Defense counts, you know.
