  1. What on earth are you talking about? I never posted about Correa’s contract other than to speculate that he wouldn’t get 300 million. That was a couple months ago, and boy was I wrong. Seriously, calm the hell down.
  2. You have to pay players. I don’t know why anyone would be upset about the cost. Players make that much in arbitration. Who cares? Do you want them to pay him the league minimum?
  3. ? 11 million is not all that much in the free agent market. And what other Boras client did the Twins sign? It’s SF that gave him money.
  4. I mean, if at bats for 2024 are the important thing, then everyone should have fun at the lake rather than worrying about the Twins. Jokes aside, I think there is a way to view this signing positively. Gallo is basically a Kepler replacement with better defense (Kepler’s defense is good, but Gallo is a credible center fielder). He can play DH and 1B with enough power to avoid losing much if any value. Because he can play all three OF positions, DH, and corner infield, he really shouldn’t take at bats away from anyone. In my view, he doesn’t raise the team’s ceiling, but he does raise its floor somewhat. Not exciting, but not useless. Just my two cents.
  5. The signing is fine. I understand why some people see Gallo as redundant with Kepler already on the team. My answer to that is that he has a different skill set that gives him higher upside and has had more recent success. What I don’t understand is why some people think the front office views this as a franchise signing. Clearly it isn’t.
  6. They should only sign players who will single-handedly lead them to the playoffs? Good thing they missed on Correa and DeGrom!
  7. I’m disappointed they didn’t sign him, but man that’s a long contract.
  8. Exactly. You want to have too many good players.
  9. I like this idea. I honestly think the ten year length alone could do it. The Yankees and Dodgers don’t seem to be in on the shortstops this year, and Boston is focused on Bogaerts. I think the Phillies are a dark horse. Maybe Houston, but they just signed Jose Abreu and might want to spend somewhere other than the infield going forward. It seems like once again, teams aren’t lining up with these mega deals.
  10. Mainly a hunch. He's a year older and will likely move off shortstop partway through a long term deal. To cross the $300 million threshold, I think he'd need 10 years. I don't think a team will sign him for that long. I guess I wouldn't be shocked if it happened, but I would be a little surprised.
  11. To me, it seems unlikely that Correa will get a $300 million contract, which is probably what he's going for. The question is whether the Twins will offer him something that is good enough. I think they should (not that they will) offer him 8/250 and see what happens. In any case, it seems like they mean it when they say they want to keep him. I actually think they have an okay shot at signing him, maybe something like 10%. They have the benefit of a longer negotiation window, and the fact that he signed here last year means that a surprise can happen.
  12. I’d maybe be interested in Syndergaard, but not as a starter.
  13. Maybe Rocco should chill and throw back a few cold ones in the dugout now and then.
  14. I don't particularly care what kind of baseball they play as long as they win games.
  15. Well, Manny Machado isn't playing third base for Eden Prairie.
  16. It's actually the self-righteousness and headstrong insistence that there's only one way to play baseball that bother me, not the Rocco bashing itself. There are good reasons to both retain and fire him.
  17. I’m not being snarky—if this is the style of baseball you want to watch, you should switch to college baseball.
  18. I think there are probably way more guys who have blown their arms out than pitched as many innings for as long as Bert did.
  19. It seems to me that brining in age is just moving the goalposts. Chpettit19 is saying that Varland’s relatively few minor league IP don’t necessarily portend few major league innings. And if he ends up as a reliever, good. I like having guys in the bullpen who throw 99. How many times this year have you and others complained (rightfully) about the lack of dependable relievers?
  20. Are you suggesting that he is to blame for this and not the people batting in front of him? What better outcome is there when no one is on base?
  21. Now there’s turn of the phrase. Have you ever thought about going into politics?
  22. I don’t disagree with the point you’re making. Relief pitchers tend to be more effective when they aren’t pitching back to back games. But isn’t the end point of this thinking something like, ‘the good pitchers shouldn’t pitch, because then they’ll be unavailable to pitch’? If they’re available, they should pitch.
  23. After sleeping on it, I like this pick even more. I was of course happy when they picked him, though part of me wanted Parada. I think the main thing is that I didn’t really research Lee at all, assuming there was no chance he’d fall out of the top five picks. Simply put, I love his offensive profile. In this brave new world of extreme K rates, I think it’s critical to load up on guys who don’t strike out. That’s Lee. I also think there’s a solid chance he has untapped power. His swing is already very sound from a mechanical standpoint. I think if he adds bulk, there’s 30 homer potential there. In my opinion, Lee is Falvine’s best first round pick to date. I guess it helps when the player falls into your lap.
