  1. Pretty sure that where a guy went to school is not really all that much of an indicator of future health.
  2. Actually I didn't way he WAS a better option than somebody on the current roster I said IF he was a better option. Now do I believe he might be a better option than someone like Stevenson? Sure. There's a reason you didn't bring Stevenson up until September. Best not to get cute and out think yourself. It's kind of like sitting your studs in fantasy.
  3. I see where you're coming from but the # 1 objective here is to win in the post-season. Pushing decisions off beyond that might not help with that. If he's a better option than somebody currently on the roster (Stevenson?) ya make the move.
  4. Leo Durocher had a famous quote about good guys. Or maybe it was nice guys. Is there a difference?
  5. The only issue, albeit a minor one, is that Gallo is better defensively, at least in the outfield, than Kiriloff.
  6. Eddie Bane threw 168 big league innings over 3 seasons and 881 professional innings over 7 seasons. I fail to see where overuse comes into play. I also fail to to understand how a sentence can be constructed that contains both Eddie Bane and Mark Fidrych.
  7. And next year we'll move on from Polanco & Kepler and spend the next couple of years wondering why the replacements haven't adequately replaced them. Feels all too familiar.
  8. an advantage that other teams didn't have?
  9. Ouch. What does that say about your roster makeup? Granted, better alternatives are on the IL, but, still. Just ouch.
  10. Wow. Bout time somebody made the Berrios trade look like it has a chance in h$@! of benefiting the Twins--after multiple trades, giving up multiple assets to replace Berrios in the rotation.
  11. But if that happens who is gonna challenge the team strikeout record?
  12. MIGHT a good idea to not move on from a guy until you are certain that the replacement(s) can perform at a level at least the same as the fella you're moving on from. Three years out on Rosario and our LFs are nowhere near what he's done since or before he left. On a positive note, at least Gallo has missed enough time with injuries that he likely won't break the team strikeout record. Unless he goes on a surge.
  13. I remember a few years back when we felt that Eddie Rosario was finished. Now all he does is win.
  14. 1975. Disco Danny Ford hit .280 with 15 home runs and Lyman Bostock hit .282. Nobody really noticed them as Fred Lynn & Jim Rice finished 1, 2 in the ROY race and nobody else got votes and Lynn & Rice also finished 1,3 in the MVP voting that year. Jim Hughes won 16 games as rookie SP, besting Bert Blylevin by one for the team lead. If you're not old you won't remember any of that.
  15. Great talent can overcome a crappy clubhouse but most teams don't have great talent.
  16. If this article had been three paragraphs shorter it wouldn't have had the word "Gallo" in it. SO CLOSE!!
  17. New school says bring in your best reliever in the 8th. Old school says you're screwed for having done so. Got ya.
  18. Martin Maldonado
  19. But at least now we can be excited when we are bringing them. Some of those guys 8-9 years ago were terrifying at just the thought of them coming up. And I'm not saying we don't have a way to go yet. The mere fact that you used the word Garlick cements that.
