  1. The trades at the trade deadline will determine much about the longterm role played by Luis Arraez. For example, think about what happens if Josh Donaldson is traded (with Arraez and Jose Miranda as longterm options at 3B). . Nevertheless, despite any future developments Polanco should stay here and remain longterm at 2B. Shortstop is a position the Twins will need to address with another player, Royce Lewis or another free agent. Frankly, I’d like to see Wander Javier succeed just so the organist can play the stupid “Happy Wanderer” song when he hits a home run or makes another great play - the crowd then can belt out “Valderi, Valdera, valder- ra-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha …”.
  2. The Twins took three catchers in the draft, so their need for depth at that position is less than you think.
  3. I was so optimistic about this season. Now I’m more interested in seeing the Twins after the trading deadline than the current group. I recognize the last half could be brutal - but I’m more curious about the future than the present.
  4. That’s a tough one. I picked Charlie Barnes who is at least at AAA. He’s a lefty. Who knows if he can “help”.
  5. Read today’s Souhan Column in the STRIB. He takes the position that the Twins should retain Donaldson, because nobody else can fire up and push the rest of this group of “too nice” players.
  6. A totally different direction would have the Twins hire Doug Mientkiewicz as manager.
  7. Another disappointing Twins game ended a few hours ago. I find myself recording and fastforwarding through these games. It’s 8:53 and I’m the first comment. Says a lot about the Twins - it’s not you Seth.
  8. I didn’t like the signing of Donaldson. However, he has looked good this season, very good recently. He seems to have taken Alex Kirilloff under his wing. We should get used to having Josh around. Nobody should want to take on this contract. I hope I’m wrong and somebody takes him in a trade where we get very little, but dump that contract on an aging player.
  9. The Twins can’t give a guy with Burton’s lack of durability more than 4 years and not more than $18 Million a year. However, 4 years/$72 million is a fair deal for both sides. The Twins should also consider a trade before the deadline.
  10. At least with Sam Deduno, one could sing “Day-Doo-Noe” in response to the stupid “Dayo” cheer-song. By the way, somebody please explain the message conveyed by the “Dayo” cheer?? Please explain.
  11. If he is going to keep promoting Wisconsin based Bratwurst, then it makes sense to trade him to Milwaukee. Stability matters and Buxton has not shown enough of it. Time to cut bait.
  12. Lost in all the veteran heroics, Nick Gordon continues to play well.
  13. The Twins will find a team willing to give some value for Simmons. However, why not trade Berrios for bigger haul with the Cubs. Berrios on the Cubs would make it easier for the north siders to retain Jose’s brother in law, Javier Baez.

  15. That leaves the Twins cupboard bare in the pen. They need to retain Rogers, Duffy and Alcala and then try to piece something together via trade, FA, or promoting prospects for the rest of the spots. Maybe they can still get something out of Thielbar and others in The Who Cares category.
  16. Four categories: 1. The Core (players to play now and 2022 - promising prospects to play NOW, worthy veterans and others we are simply stuck with / ie no trade value ): Kirilloff, Larnach, Arraez, Polanco, Sano, Donaldson, Garver, Jeffers OR Rortvedt, Kepler, Rogers, Duffy. 2. Trade for Value or Keep if No Value in Return: Berrios, Buxton, Maeda, Pineda, Cruz, Simmons, Robles, (Extend Berrios and Buxton for a good price) 3. Young starters and relievers at AAA and maybe AA: Ober, Thorpe, Smeltzer etc (see if any can produce) 4. Who cares? Everybody else.
  17. I was not a fan of the Donaldson signing to begin with - Too much money owed on these late years. But trading one problem for two of another team’s problems makes no sense. Donaldson will contribute something next year and then we can see whether to buy out or have him show up for one more year. Trade something that will net more: Buxton, Berrios. Pined. If we are dumping veterans, look to dump our rent a players Cruz, Simmons, Robles, Colome (in descending order of likelihood anyone would be interested).
  18. Simmons bat can’t be disappointing, since there were never high expectations for him to hit. So delete him from list and add Miggy.
  19. This team is not going to contend in 2022. Sano is not going to be Big Papi 2.0, Kepler isn’t ever going to have a breakout season, Donaldson will be getting older and the new generation won’t be ready, and here is the important word, YET. Trade Buxton (once healthy and producing) and Berrios. Plan for 2023 and beyond. I know this is frustrating, but the Twins current roster is not as good as we thought it would be. Accept reality and build for the future.
  20. Berrios added to his trade value.
  21. Who would trade for Sano, unless it’s another struggling but promising player who may benefit from a “change of scenery”? This looks like a tear-down. Twins should start aiming for 2023 or even 2024. Trade veterans for prospects. This is frustrating.
  22. I was not a fan of the Donaldson signing. However, I thought he would be better at this stage. I was mostly worried about the last two years of his contract.
  23. Unless, there is a massive win streak (7 straight or 10 out of the next 12 for example), mathematically the Twins have dug too large of a hole. I’ll let someone else post the records the Twins would need to have to get to 85 wins. However, a huge streak or near-streak of winning now puts the team in a position of winning the division or a wild card by consistently winning the vast majority of series for the rest of the season. Not impossible, but it’s unlikely.
  24. Am I presuming correctly - Kody Funderburk is not related to former Twin Mark Funderburk? Hope he can make it to the big league club just to be able to hear his name announced.
  25. If the Twins lost the second game of the double-header, they would have been in violation of the Tom Kelly rule. He once said - You are going to win 1/3rd of your games and lose 1/3rd of your games - it’s what you do in that other third that determines your season (or something like that - I’m doing this from my addled memory).
