  1. In times of great need, when we are at our darkest night, it sometimes takes one voice, one man to stand up and call the great unwashed powerful a bunch of lickspittles..... Man I loved this entire thing, and my Friday at work started so craptacular.... Thanks David (please stick around, come for the nachos, stay for the crazies....)
  2. More amateur assessment: If you relax your pinky and push fairly hard with your middle and ring finger, your picky tends to push out....at least mine does
  3. As a whole (and I feel comfortable speaking for the whole here) we've seen quite a few marginal (sub-marginal?) veterans make the team in the past couple years. I thought for sure Vogelsong was making this team....maybe this is a positive change for a new management.
  4. Hey Van, What's the over-under on the Twins rotation actually being better at creating runs in inter-league games with the lumber than preventing runs during the rest of the season? I'll hang up, finish my moonshine, and cry in the corner while I listen to your answer. Link for visual aid (throw back to our boy Vogel in 2012) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1339345-ranking-the-10-worst-regular-starting-pitchers-in-baseball-today
  5. Yeah, but what happens when you exclude the first inning home run he always gave up
  6. I think Granite is too valuable (potentially) to sit around as a 4th outfielder. I think he is Polanco/Rosario/Kepler/Grossman insurance. You put him in AAA, and see what happens in the first few months at AAA/the bigs, and go from there. He's got talent, but I'd want to see a bit more at AAA and see what the other 4 do, for now.
  7. I'd be very interested to see the projected OBP of a situation like that (whether that projection is even possible, I don't know).
  8. This is pretty close to what I was thinking as well. I had Buxton and Rosario switched and Vargas and Kepler switched. Both are placeholders watching what unfolds. What I'm really curious about is hitting Dozier third. This is the way I original had it drafted as well, but the good old article from Beyond the Box Score arrived at the conclusion that the three-hole hits with less men on base than the 4-5 spot. Taking this for true, I've always wondered about: 1. Polanco 2. Mauer 3. Buxton/Kepler/Someone hitting well 4. Sano 5. Dozier --> Dozier protects Sano a bit, and Dozier sees more guys on base perhaps (I could also see their roles reversed depending on how the season goes).
  9. Brock, what would your lineup look like to start the season? This team is so full of unknowns and guys that were good for parts of seasons and terrible for other parts, it's like throwing sticks in the air.
  10. Variable-Observed Statistical Adjustment (I completely made this up based on Brock's assessment). In other words, look at the context of the situations which built the stats. Was this against a low quality pitcher or low quality defense; at what point in spring training was this going on (early in year when guys are working on fb location); was the wind blowing out so hard someone hit three home runs in a small park (Hicks/2013); etc.
  11. I tend to agree, but I don't know if I'll take Boof Bonser's word for this
  12. Dear All, Take heart. At one point in time, these were our top prospects: www.minorleagueball.com/2007/11/13/16825/333 (edit, link doesn't want to work so, here was John Sickels thoughts in 2008): Tyler Robertson, LHP, Grade B+ Anthony Swarzak, RHP, Grade B Ben Revere, OF, Grade B Eduardo Morlan, RHP, Grade B Jeff Manship, RHP, Grade B Trevor Plouffe, SS, Grade B- Brian Duensing, LHP, Grade B- Oswaldo Sosa, RHP, Grade B- Jose Mijares, LHP, Grade C+ Mike McCardell, RHP, Grade C+ Chris Parmelee, OF, Grade C+ (disappointing in '07 but young) Danny Valencia, 3B, Grade C+ Ryan Mullins, LHP, Grade C+ Jay Rainville, RHP, Grade C+ Deibinson Romero, 3B, Grade C+ Alex Burnett, RHP, Grade C+ David Bromberg, RHP, Grade C+ Nick Blackburn, RHP, Grade C+ Erik Lis, OF-1B, Grade C+ Zach Ward, RHP, Grade C
  13. 1.) You had to link to an article that reminded me of Joe Crede and his back didn't you. This is the second time this week you're out to depress me 2.) I hope he's okay, I hope he's as good as he was (man I love me some Perkins...the restaurant too), I hope if he's not, this is a fine litmus test for how injured players are handled in both the media and when to put them on the DL
  14. I don't really see the problem here? We know what he likely is (fringy AAAA, below average hitter/outfielder with positional flexibility). I don't see who he's blocking by being in Spring Training, and maybe someone sees something in his character or leadership the locker room could use about hard work, grinding, etc. Who else should have received this spot that would want to either 1.) Sign with a likely-below average team; 2.) Isn't going to AA this season?
  15. Welcome to the dearth of MLB news between February and March......I forgot, who's in the best shape of their life this year?
  16. I'm going to be blissfully, optimistic and believe that new management can handle a 40/25-man roster better than the previous management. I'm pretty sure we all can count a number of players that were exposed to waivers for reasons that continue to confound the majority of posters to this site.
  17. http://www.twinkietown.com/2017/2/3/14496470/twins-sign-veteran-pitcher-article-template I'm just going to leave this here....
  18. and I just spit coffee on my work computer screen...thanks Obama Brian
  19. This thread makes me feel much younger than I am.....thanks all!
  20. and that's the difference between a good new GM and a bad new GM (no implicit dig on Terry). Knowing when to take a trade, and when to walk away (I see you Jim Hoey) are job priority number one.
  21. So Jason, here are some of the things that we need to get better at: 1.) Scouting; 2.) Talent Development; 3.) Keeping infielders in the infield and outfielders in the outfield. 4.) Keeping starters starting, and relievers relieving. 5.) Handling foreign players. 6.) Drafting. 7.) Bunting. [this goes on for quite some time] Connor MacCloud (Jason McLeod): I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal.....and you have your checkbook here, right?
  22. I'd take Ben Cherington, but my biggest fear is that the Twins will hire a President of Baseball Ops, and they leave Rob with his current job on a full time status.
