  1. Isn't this what all sinkerball pitchers do? Streaky good when the command and the sinking motion is on, but when either is off, they go full on mediocre to bad (I swear this is the same story with Blackburn, Silva, etc). I would assume if the offspeed stuff isn't leading the way, he's going to continue to vacillate between good and bad starts. He's everything you'd want on a team, and more (for minor league depth), if his offspeed stuff isn't getting whiffs.
  2. It's poker time Falvine, if you had a fair deal on the line, and everyone was satisfied (not saying happy here), then a leak happens/"other parties are interested", don't increase your offer.....you call that bluff every time. Incidentally, this sounds very familiar with the Dozier trade talks when all of the sudden other teams were interested (when likely only the Dodgers were)....
  3. I don't know if 2015 was even dark humor fun....first year I literally tuned out on the Twins season (and I watched the entire 90's run....all of it....).
  4. Any chance Vargas might be part of the deal?

  6. Thanks to TwinsNorth49, hopefully I have this figured out. Fair disclaimer, the angle isn't the greatest. Here we go. In this photo, shortly before the ball is there, the plate appears to be wide open (potentially top corner closed, but a clear running path is available). Fraction of a second later, foot covers the top section of the plate, but middle and back corner are left open. Fraction of a second later, catcher has the ball, and the plate appears to be blocked. I can see the argument against this play (and the rule certainly benefits the catcher), but he had the ball, and then moved to block the plate. By rule, this seems allowable.
  7. If you two can point me toward how to post a picture on my machine to the forums, I'll show you a series of pictures that led me to disagree with your thoughts.
  8. I honestly don't know about this, but I would assume just by positioning (slightly to the front of the plate to shorten the path to the thrown ball), the catcher would naturally provide the outside lane.
  9. I've seen a few questions on this one, and I hadn't seen an answer. I had to look up Rule 7.13 again as I thought he was blocking the plate during the broadcast: This is what I found (used the internet to find the rule, not 100% this is accurate): "Unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in the judgment of the Umpire, the catcher, without possession of the ball, blocks the pathway of the runner, the Umpire shall call or signal the runner safe." My opinion: If you pause the video at 17 seconds (slightly before the catcher has the ball), only part of the plate is blocked, but there is an area for Dozier to touch. He doesn't completely block the plate until he has the ball. Good call by the ump. http://m.mlb.com/video/v1617667283/nyymin-judge-throws-out-dozier-with-977mph-throw/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU
  10. I want to see him as a reliever before I consider him useless. I see potential in the pen.
  11. How long until someone interviews him and asks him how the Twins screwed him up?
  12. http://screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/darth-vader-10-most-dangerous-star-wars-villains.jpeg I find your lack of faith....totally understandable
  13. I pretty much agree with both you and Brock, I just think that's the entire problem. Machedo has a history, and I'm sure that players (without the advantage or perhaps the willingness to review the slow motion) just default to, he tried to spike him. If they'd just institute a policy for contact (regardless of intent), it hopefully would stop retaliation plays (or maybe curb them).
  14. Yep, and this is the problem. Three guys in a room two days later have to try and decide whether Brad Marchand hit another guy in the nuts on accident.
  15. I agree with the assessment (and the absolute trash of throwing at someone's head), I'm just getting annoyed with sports these days trying to glean intent from plays. Whether someone meant to do something or not should be absolutely irrelevant. You cleat someone in the leg, even if accidental, the runner at first should be out (or some other rationale infraction type penalty). Another example: You make contact with the catcher at home, and that contact was not the fault of the catcher, some relevant ruling should apply. I realize life and sports is not black and white, but trying to legislate intent is a bad, bad idea (you start to look like the NHL's or NFL's suspension policies).
  16. He's hit .302 .380 .501 .881 in the minors. I don't buy anything with the following the ball mentions. I'm with Parker to a degree that he's closed himself off to inside pitching, but then look at this heat map.... Yeah, that' bad. I don't know what's causing this, but he's starting to remind me of Billy Beane's career arch (not defensively, of course). Beane's minor league career numbers (.262 .317 .408 .725) and I can draw some similarities. Right now, I'd have sweet Drew Butera pinch hitting for him in the third inning. I'm on the train with sending him back to AAA to build up the confidence and leaving him there for a long, long time. This season isn't worth it to me. If he has to figure out how to hit at the MLB level, I'm still comfortable with him doing that next year (I'm guessing the Twins are still a bubble team at that point).
  17. http://kiddynamitesworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/cerrano.png Anyone want to go halvsies on the shipping of this bad boy and a bucket of KFC to Buxton's locker?
  18. So I was down in at Spring Training two or three years ago (I can't remember which), and Buxton was out signing autographs. My boys (at the time about 4 and 6) and I hurried down and got in line. We just got to the front and Buxton was walking off when a nice woman asked him if he would kindly take a few more seconds and sign the boys' hats (I had nothing for him to sign, just wanted the boys to get a chance to see a player up close and get an autograph). He stopped about 10 feet into his jog away, turned around, and came back to sign the boys's hats. You wouldn't believe how happy they were. Moral of the story: Absolutely nothing, I just wanted to say something nice about him. Hope he figures out the hitting.
  19. and I spit coffee on my computer screen....again. Thanks D-mac, now I need some paper towels and an IT guy
  20. The name game during Spring Training was particularly hilarious
  21. Let's not hate on a player that is executing his on-base skill (getting on base is what Joe does). If you want to be critical of those situations, then question the batting order and anyone in control of that. Joe did what Joe does best. Square peg; round hole. --> In more fairness, I was highly critical of the decision to hit Joe there yesterday...unless Falvey came up with the next great mathmatical insight that I can't currently see, I'm still scratching my head....but for today, who cares....TWINS WIN!!!!!
  22. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them him; the ants {cough, Mauer} will soon be here up. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords Mauer hitting cleanup. I’d like to remind them all that as a trusted TV personality (local yokel), I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves (Brock's basement).”
  23. Mauer is hitting cleanup....against a lefty? Is April third the first Monday after April Fools Day so we're officially recognizing April Fools today? Um paging Parker, paging @ParkerHageman.....does the front office stand behind this lineup?
  24. I've taken a couple hours off work since about 2008 to watch the opener in the closest watering hole to my house with my wife. This year I'm staying at work. You're all welcome in advance.
