  1. Check out the chops on the tall Bethel player leaning on the dugout fence in the background...how did that guy's facial hair not get drafted?
  2. Luke, beware of the Luke [Hughes]......
  3. I understand where you and TN are coming from here, but in evaluating a player, you can't just overlook such a glaring deficiency (even in light of that beautiful power...sweet beautiful power). When you look at ABW in sum total (power, speed, option years, warts, etc.), I think the Twins are watching him in the optimal manner. Let's see how he does against AAA pitching and with another year under his belt. The K rate is the reason they've not rushed him. They like the power potential; they added him to the 40-man. In summary, this is the type of player you slow-play a bit. See what you have and how he responds. Especially in light of the current roster crunch. He's not getting everyday at bats if he made the 25-man....why not let him develop and see where it goes.
  4. 1. Walker will be at AAA this year (maybe AA). 2. Walker was added to the 40 man. 3. Walker has a 34.8% K rate last year (AA) and over a 40% (SSS) in Arizona. 4. From all accounts I've heard, his arm is Ben Revere-like (ok, maybe not that bad). 5. The Twins have Arcia, Sano, Vargas, Park, a White Sox player I refuse to name on principle (see also a former broken down White Sox third baseman who....[rant redacted]...... I fail to see how the Twins have mishandled him (other than maybe a Spring Training invite, but the guy isn't beating out the mashers we have who are out of options....why jerk him around). It isn't like we're talking about Berrios here...time is what ABW needs (that and plate discipline....and maybe a good football....that worked for Revere, right?).
  5. "Get Money...Get Paid" [Head first slide into Twins Daily]
  6. I wouldn't bat Sano third, ever. Rationale: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17/795946/optimizing-your-lineup-by The Twins didn't waste money here. This is a flyer on a 3 M per year deal (discount the posting fee entirely, it's a sunk cost, like Jason Marquis). Basically, you've paid this guy Nick Blackburn money, and if he ends up in AAA, it's not a big deal. Big upside moves for low cost = good work.
  7. I like the numbers, but do we know anything about the opponents' swing percentage on out-of-zone pitches? I thought this was a percentage that reduced through the minor leagues and into the majors?
  8. IF they'd consider trading Dozier, I suppose the question is whether Polanco is a comparable second baseman (.661 OPS in Rochester/.739 in Chattenooga)?
  9. I would normally suggest the time honored Minor League Spring Training Tryout, if he goes elsewhere, meh, but I'm being very honest when I say I couldn't help myself from keeping him on the 25 if I was the manager.....full on homer mode activated.....
  10. I'd actually sign Morneau and Cuddy, if available.....for the right price....on a minor league deal....if they'd accept assignment. Reunions can be fun and profitable.....if you know how to manage them. If someone gets hurt, and they catch fire....all the more fun.
  11. I can see how you want a high contact/walk player, but the bench isn't one guy. Here you have an absolute masher....that's a switch hitter (with okay splits....just okay, but still). You can have both guys on this type of a bench. For the love of all that's holy, please give this guy the call. He might suck again, but Hermann for Buxton (I'm not against PH for Buxton in that spot, but HERMANN????????).
  12. If it was Cherington or Bill Smith, I'd take Cherington....except as to International Signees, then I take Bill Smith.
  13. My favorite Twins player as a kid: Greg Gagne Pretty sure he was my father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
  14. I'll go on record (as I did earlier this year) to say that at the beginning of the season, I thought I saw Ryan's plan. Be good enough to keep the fans interest, develop the farm a bit more, and see what you have going into the off-season. I wasn't against this plan at the start of the year because I didn't think this team had a cold chance of being good. Better, but not good. I give TR (JR) the 2016 season to pass judgment. I think he's done some things and stuff, but if I see his plan, it starts in 2016. But honestly, the bullpen and roster management are points I would love to have a sit down and ask him about why they continually maintain below average talent on the 40-man, but dump guys with a proven minor league record who may (in hindsight would) have been good in spot roles (Colla..bench bat/Hendriks...reliever). Also, not a Jepsen fan, but we'll see.
  15. He is. He has a Percy Harvin Jersey.....Maybe I should be a better parent
  16. I threw up a little in my mouth
  17. In former Twins minor league news, as of last week when he was released from the Rochester roster, Nate Hanson has The suspense is killing me
  18. Oh yeah, and the Yankees suck.
  19. I'll not call for the GM's head this season, but even for the strongest of optimists, this season is really starting to hurt. My six year old and I were watching the game when A-Fraud hit and he said; "Every time I think something good is going to happen; it doesn't". ;(
  20. Perhaps his value to the organization (to combine thoughts with Halfchest) begins with the protection he is afforded with the future line up. If Buxton, Dozier, ABW, Sano are your starting four, he'd get some pretty solid pitches, and his defense has to be better than Young-Willingham-Arcia. I don't know if I'd dump a guy in a trade who has that kind of power potential.....Adam Dunn looked good when he was protected in a line up.
  21. Kennys has a career OPS of over .800 in the minors, can switch hit with good success, and is only 25. I'd think holding on to him and letting him work his way back to the majors is a pretty solid plan. Also, good luck big man. Saw him from about five feet away at Spring Training and he is huge....
  22. Count me in on asking some more follow up on this one. I'm not saying Kepler is going to burn it all down, but I'm not sold on minor league home runs as being indicative of major league power development, especially with a uber-development player like Kepler. Brian Dozier (while likely a statistical outlier) hit 7 home runs in 311 AA at bats (22 Doubles/7 Triples). In 323 at bats, Kepler has 6 Hr/25 doubles/9 triples). Arcia at AA 262:20/510. I have to run to a meeting, but I would also compare the K/W ration....stupid meetings..
  23. Is Neshek available? I mean if we're putting the band back together and all.
  24. Seth, any word on Kolton Kendrick's bad start (small sample), and Trey Vavra?
  25. Jokin, If you haven't already, this would be a great separate thread to unpack what you're delving into here. I'd lurk the stuffing out of that one...
