    I imagine the following will be about as popular as Danny Santana, but I have never had any issue with the unwritten rules. They are what keeps more guys from getting HBP, they keep spikes down during slides, and they keep tags clean, and mouths shut. They also are much more unpopular amongst people who learned the game in the last 15 years it seems. No one knows if Haley hit him by mistake, or on purpose. The situation seems to indicate mistake, but who knows. The discussion should have been between Sano and Haley, especially if Sano felt it was intentional. That's the true purpose of aiming at Miguel's ample butt!

    I so hate to say this for like what? The sixth year in a row? But any decisions made have to be made for the next 4 years, not 4 months. That said there are really no good SP options, or at least not enough to turn the corner. The OF could be set, Sano likely would end up at 1B, and the pen has at least some promising options in MiLB. As for the middle IF, if they do not trade Dozier, I think Polanco's bat will force them to let Dozier go when his contract is up. If that does happen, I imagine/hope they go with a glove first SS. Polanco will likely never put up Doziers HR numbers because he doesn't sell out to the corner foul pole, but I think he will be a much better hitter before all is said and done. Some guys can just hit, and he seems to be one of them.

    Buxtons problem is in his head. It may have happened anyway, but only a fool would have taken someone this young, with limited MLB success and stuck him in the three hole. (Or someone hoping to save his job) The last thing BB needed was added pressure. That said he is in the unique position of being a player who has to be allowed to work it out here. His history is that no matter what level he moves to, he struggles, and then denominates. Hopefully this will continue. Because even allowing for the miserable pitching, if he doesn't pan out, this franchise is in serious trouble. This is Buxton and Sanos team now. They either make it or we look at 5 more years of an abyss.

    I know it's a new regime, and they deserve a chance. But their lack of any movement is not exactly encouraging. And if one looked only at not trading Dozier, or not moving Mauer down the order, or not trading Perkins when we had no use for a closer, or Willingham when he got hot, ad nauseum, then it would be picking nits. But this is and always has been an orginizatinal fault, and appears to continue to be so.

    There is no reason for Buxton to go anywhere. Stick him in the 9 hole and let him work his way out of it. He started to last fall, he will again. This team needs him, and needs the other youth to get going. There isn't anything else coming that's going to make this a contending team. They're it. If anyone thinks this is actually a contender after 15 games, then a call for some decent SP is in order, not a new CF.

    What I remember is that he has had slow starts at each new level. But I don't think he kept getting sent up and down a level like he has been here. I refuse to believe he can't play (hit) better than this, and that he won't end up as an exceptional player. He is at around 500 PA and it's often 1500 before the lights stay on. And it doesn't help, that after ending strong last year way down in the order, one of Sid's favorite "geniuses" stuck him in the three hole!

    It is my impression/understanding Adrianza is a glove first SS? This really does not help the bench. Vargas seems logical for a bat and 1B glove. Tonkin? I would believe he would love to get out of here. No, he ain't Andrew Mller from the other side, but he was abused by Molitor last year, and it's obvious Molitor is not a fan. The troubling part of all this, is that while DanSan should likely go, it's only going to increase the inning RG stands in the OF like one of those plaza statues, difference being the statues have better arms. I know there was a different lightly commented blog on Molitor, but all you need to know about his managerial chops? He thinks Robbie Grossman is a RF!

    I am not a Molitor fan, and your article touches on one game, but could be considered seasonal also. The worst part of the RG switch was we were behind, not the defense. Santana ain't no gem, but Robbie is also a butcher. Molitor has not improved an iota since he started. He has no feel for managing, he seems to make moves, to make moves. He burns out BP pitchers who are hot. His lineups and discipline are inconsistent. I would imagine no one except a couple veterans has a clue of their standing on the roster. I don't know about the last 4 games but I do know he used 8 different lineups in the first 8 games! C'mon. MLB does not have a participation rule. That said, I bet Falvine is not looking forward to the day they have to go see Pauls buddy Jim and break the news!

    Pitch to contact works better at lower levels of baseball. As you get farther up the ladder you need very good control and "stuff" to make it effective. And an above average defense all over the field. If you do not have these things, the contact part still works, and the term becomes a euphemism for crappy pitching! I also would bet this mornings box of donuts that contact type pitchers are cheaper to draft and sign. Lastly, some guys just cannot abide by walks, I think TR (and TK) was one. And the time spent and the pain endured watching "stuff" pitchers learn their trade was too much to bear!

    The "A" lineup is only for opening day. After that you have to start resting players and keeping the bench fresh!

    Somewhere in the good book there is a mention of ...... "Let he who is innocent cast the first stone" or something to that extent. Taking that to heart, there shouldn't be too many rocks hurled by this bunch!

    I missed the disparaging remarks about Millennials. . In fact I did not know that it was possible. That said, after reading point #4 in the open, I wish I had continued my studies in psychoanalysis at Trump U. There's money to be made here!

    I don't have to listen to talk radio to hear bandwagon, I have a son in law who I hate to watch sporting events with. He jumps on and off between at bats, or snaps. I pay attention to the Twins, keep up on TiVo, and have my irrational opinions, but after so many years of just plain yuck, it's going to take more than 5 games against mediocre competition for me to crawl back on the wagon. And I still see nothing in Molitor and his odd ball lineups to make me believe he can stay out of the way enough to make this team reach its potential. As for the extra pitcher, remember if he had a Park or Vargas, just think who would be patrolling LF at least three times a week?

    I remember a local pro football team that started out 5-0. Even that bandwagon was overloaded, and that was a 16 game season. There are reasons to be cautiously optimistic this year, but that should be tempered by the base point from which we are judging said optimism. If this had been a good team, with good SP, and a solid manager, I could get excited. All I can do right now is keep peering up to see when the roof is going to fall in. Fool me once shame on you, fool me for like 6 years, would indicate I ain't very smart!

    I wasn't surprised they have a long pitching staff, they always seemed to in the past also. And yes they could have came north with one less relief pitcher, with the extra days off and got away with it. I still think that as much as I prefer 12 RP that ship may have sailed. Pitch counts and more situational pitching moves need more pitchers. And remember, with the exception of E Santana the SP is still less than a sure thing. There's a little smoke and mirrors in a staff without a legit #1, or even a good #2.

    The article when based on one game is fine, but left out of the equation was the fact Molitors history is this will be one of about 125 different lineups he sends out. And if one is going to use metrics when admiring the on base guys high in the order, one has to use metrics to question the incessant bunting also. As an aside, plate discipline had little to do with taking walks in this particular game. Some of the fans in the first row were more in danger than the strike zone was.,

    Santana was in mid season form, the Sano bomb was impressive, and the defense better than last year. Even the bunts were in fair territory this year! An oddity indeed. But I do wonder how the analytically savvy Falvine will take the the bunt happy approach of their manager? As for RG, there is absolutely no way I would offer him four pitches out of the strike zone. To his credit he has a fine eye. Which is important if you can't hit. Watching him DH is gonna take some getting used to, but I guess it's better than him wearing a glove! .

    Parks removal from the 40 man was likely his undoing. To replace him on the 40, after determining he might not be able to handle MLB pitching based on ST would have been difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. The bench is short enough as is, and this would have forced RG into the OF 3-4 days a week. Ugh. If Park proves he can hit AAA fastballs with consistency, then you can bring him up and hopefully move RG. No I have not forgotten DanSan. But he would need to be replaced by a true utility player, with the bench as short as it is. Yet another pitching related problem.

    There's a lot of moving parts here. But the biggest one was Pohlads decision to protect his buddy. If he had not done that, Molitor would have saved face as being moved by the new administration. Falvine would be judged on their choice of a new guy right out of the chute, and roster decisions would not be graded on this curve. And it would have definitely helped ticket sales. All this said, it's not inconceivable that either scenario is correct, but my bet is on evaluation of players over a longer period. That fits in with both the slow pace of movement in FO moves, and in the simple fact that this team is not one SP away from contention.

    I know this is going to be as popular as warm beer, but with what amounts to a two man bench, DanSan fills a specific need. There maybe another player on the market who can replace him easily. But we don't have him. And EE cannot play OF at all, and RG is remarkably the DH. (that said he can't play OF at all either) Park did put up nice numbers, but required a 40 man move. My other question on Park is whom did he hit the dingers off of? I just have a very hard time believing a veteran player with little exposure to ML fastballs is just going to change his swing and start catching up to big heat. Pitchers in ST work on THEIR stuff, not on opposing hitters. As to Falvine, if this roster was in a vacuum, I would start looking for a new FO. But it's not. Plus they are hamstrung with what I feel is an extremely poor manager. One that may have more of the owners ear than we acknowledge!
