  1. This team does not need a full-time DH, too many good bats to try to find PA's for. The Buxton experiment last season also proved this.
  2. I am in the don't trade Jeffers camp, but to add Luzardo I think I would rather lose Jeffers (and Julien) than any of the prospects still in the minors. Vazquez grades out well defensively, and a cheap C could be gotten from FA to placehold until Camargo is ready.
  3. Close!! I had looked these #'s up earlier due someone suggesting that the whole team had hit better after the AS break; Pre AS break slash - .232/.309/.400 (.709 OPS,) MLB OPS Rank #22 Post AS break slash - .258/.346/.463 (.809 OPS) MLB OPS Rank #3 So it was a team effort, not an individual player
  4. Twins record - pre AS break 45-46; post AS break 42-29....
  5. Wallner struggled in the play-offs, but slashed .354/.456/.646 (1.102 OPS) with 3 HR, 12 RBI and 16/8 K/BB ratio over his last 17 games. He has also shown a willingness to work on his weaknesses, as he became an acceptable defender last season and was constantly working on fixing his swing after the league started exposing a weak spot. Kind of the player a team needs...
  6. I disagree. Farmer is the most expendable, but also probably returns the least value. Polanco is more expendable than Kepler due to the infield depth both at the MLB level and higher minor leagues, and probably brings the best overall return.
  7. You handcuff yourself too much if you eliminate half of your possible trade partners.
  8. Now that Jung Hoo Lee signed with the Giants, I would imagine that Bellinger signs soon. If he doesn't sign with Seattle, I imagine they would open to trading for Kepler. If the pieces are right, the Twins take the trade. Trading him just to free up $$$ is probably not smart, as stated on here, because the other options don't appear to be able to match his production.
  9. Can't replace them if they trade all the young starters away, leads to a vicious cycle of constantly trading prospects for 1 or 2 years of a veteran.
  10. They aren't, but those other young, controllable pitchers aren't sure things either. Yes, many, most or even all of them have debuted in the MLB, most to mixed results so far. Not to mention injuries. Festa projected by MLB and FanGraphs to debut this season, if he does, he maybe takes a little pressure off of Paddack and/or Varland if either is on an innings limit. SWR might figure things out, he is still considerably younger than most at AAA, Canterino may make the BP out of ST or early in the season, if he is stretched out he can piggyback with other starters to help with innings limits. Varland and Headrick have had a taste of MLB and could be useful. Raya is projected to debut in '25. Soto, Prielipp, Lewis, Culpepper, etc... I like how the teams pitching pipeline is taking shape and don't feel any "Big" trades need be made unless said trade doesn't disrupt this.
  11. So the Twins need pitching long-term, but everybody wants to include Festa and Raya in trades... If they have to be included, don't make the trade. Unless some extensions are offered, Paddack is a FA after '25 and Lopez, Ryan and Ober are FA's after '27. That is a lot of SP to have replace, the team can't keep trading players/prospects for 1 or 2 years of a veteran SP.
  12. And Seattle starts the conversation asking for Julien/Lee, Festa and a low-level prospect, not Polanco and/or Kepler.
  13. Optioning the future for a rental SP is not smart/sustainable baseball. This team has a core that will mostly be together through 2027, but has new wave of prospects coming after that, and has already traded off some pieces that may have been part of the future for help now. They cannot keep emptying the cupboard and coming up short, its not good business. So, short story long, develop the pitching needed, fill seasonal needs as necessary and go forward with the goal of winning the WS, not trying to win a play-off series this year.
  14. Lopez, Ryan, Ober and Paddack have all started play-off games...
  15. Why not let Maki work his magic on Ryan, Ober, Paddack, Varland, Canterino, Festa, SWR, Headrick, etc... without giving anything up??
  16. Let's hope the Twins don't feel the need to send Jeffers that way, no matter the return, will leave them shorthanded behind the plate....
  17. Gordon is out of options, but I would not consider it a loss if he is claimed if the team tries to get him through waivers. There are potentially better options, and baseball is a business, but sometimes the shiny new choice works out, sometimes not.
  18. I think we would have seen him last season if not for the injury, he seemed to find his game in the AFL much like Lewis after his disastrous 2019 MiLB season. He wasn't Julien good, but he outplayed the Reds' Matt McClain, who finished 5th in ROY voting after this season. If Gordon and/or Larnach (maybe Farmer??) are moved this off-season, we may have our answer as to what the team thinks of him.
  19. This is pretty much word for word what the talking-head, ex-GM's on MLB Network were saying while I was navigating the horrible roads headed north tonight.
  20. My eye test told me he slipped a little last season. In the few games I was able to watch last season, Kepler misplayed several balls into basehits or extra bases, most of these were pre-All-Star game and several posters commented on here that he looked dis-interested and that his head/heart wasn't in the game.
  21. A couple of ESPN's reporters are saying there's nothing official yet....
  22. As I have said, I am not a Hoskins fan. That being said, the national media outlets figure he gets a 1 yr/$14 MM deal. That is affordable, above that not so much.
  23. Miranda has options, he can start the season at AAA. O'Neill is said to be available in a trade, which is enticing, but comes with injury concerns. Not a big fan of Hoskins, and if the price tag gets to $15 MM I hope the team passes. He is coming off of knee surgery and is not a good defender anywhere on the field. If the team can get him on a Gallo type 1yr/$11-12 MM, I would say yes, otherwise pass. Whether we like it or not, many moves this off-season revolve around the teams expected availability of Buxton, including a possible signing of Hoskins.
  24. The Reds, like the Twins, are said to be looking for pitching this off-season. And like the Twins, they have a surplus of infielders to trade from. They are said to be making Jonathan India available, which may force the Twins to include Julien in a deal - MLB talent, not prospect. Also, after the Soto deal, the Yankees will be looking for pitching. They generally go the FA route, but if they get involved in looking for trades, this may force the Twins to include Julien or one of the higher rated prospects. We will have to trust the FO in whatever deals they make or don't make, though many on here will question why a deal was made or not made.
  25. If Hoskins is being talked about by those closest to the team, I would put stock in it. I would also venture to guess that other moves are being discussed concerning any of Kirilloff, Miranda, Kepler, Julien and Wallner.
