  1. This probably wasn't a fair review of Twins history. The 2015 Twins were pretty good, fighting for a playoff spot to the last series of the season and had some really promising young rookies. To say that the 2016 Twins were devoid of talent is a bit wrong. Those young guys just struggled - a lot. The 2017 Twins made the postseason. And then we had another ****ty season in 2018 that only looks a bit better b/c we won the last six against the White Sox. Most of called the 2018 season another total system failure year. Realistically, TD is giving the current FO a bit too much love. Even after all this time, our best hitting and pitching prospect were acquired by the previous regime. This FO was given a pretty good hand - talented young nucleus at the ML level, strong prospect system, an owner willing to spend - and they haven't really done much to help. 2019 was a fun season with a rough ending but this looks like a season full of cruddy bullpen arms trying to game their way through the 6-9 innings, day in, day out.
  2. I'd be ok to see him go. I liked his hiring a lot at the time but I don't think he's done that great a job. I think Falvey is more important to the longterm.
  3. Right now, only Donaldson, Buxton, Arraez and Cruz look like the they have a clue. Not sure what else they can do about that. Sano needs to be healthy. Kiriloff doesn't look good. I'm ready to give up on Polanco and Garver. Gad, what a crappy start to the season. I don't like the idea that starters should aim for 5-6 innings and be happy about it. I certainly don't want to turn into Bert but good grief. This bullpen is bad and we're relying on them way too much. Rocco needs to let our starters go deeper.
  4. It'll be fun to see both of them get a shot. Hope they both excel for us.
  5. That's a legit fair point. The A's are good and they are playing great. Sometimes you just get your ass kicked.
  6. I do think lack of a consistent lineup hurts. I know some folks think changing the order around based on who you are facing, moving guys up and down or in and out, gives the team a better chance to win but I think it also takes guys out of their routine.
  7. Looks like another 'total system failure' season. It is too early to panic and the Twins do have some talent but they are also relying a lot on guys who, frankly, might not be that good. Buxton, Cruz, Donaldson, Berrios could start for anyone but I'm close to giving up on Polanco and wish one of our young bats would take RF away from Kepler. And our bullpen still sucks. Still, this team could easily turn it around and win the Central. Sano will get hot.
  8. Yeah, this sorta has a "I want to hit reset" type of vibe to the season. Oh well. Hope everyone is healthy.
  9. Well, we aren't as bad as we look right now but, ugh. I trust our hitters to get it figured out a lot more than I trust the pitching staff.
  10. Those stats are through 9 games against a few pretty iffy offensive teams. Not sure it tells us anything. The Twins pen seems like a weakness to me. We'll see how the season goes.
  11. I think our pen won't hold up but our lineup and rotation will. Part of this is that the starters aren't designed to go 200 innings anymore so we're more reliant on the pen. And part of this is that the pen arms are all feast or famine type. Great to see Buxton turn into the guy we all hoped for. Now if he and Sano can both get going at the same time ...
  12. Ignoring this season, Buck was already a star - the only issue is he couldn't stay healthy. Even counting his dismal 2018, he's been about a 4.5 WAR player per 162 games. I don't know if you can bet on him to stay healthy and I don't know what his agent wants, but he's the most fun player we've had in a long time. I hope he stays with the Twins for his entire career. Honestly, I'd probably pay him and if it doesn't work out, well, that's life. I won't blame the FO for locking up a talent like Buxton.
  13. He'll be fine. He'll have hot and cold stretches but he'll hit.
  14. I think, like others, the FO didn't think he'd get picked and they didn't think he'd stick. They were wrong. I'm not sure it was unreasonable for them to think like that but it's also fair to point out that some commentators - I think it was the fangraphs guy who later went to a ML club - were much higher on Baddoo then the consensus. He was a second round draft pick for a reason. But having two guys taken in the rule v draft and both sticking with the drafting club is not a good sign for the FO. Some might spin it as "oh, look at all the talent in the system" but tons of teams have tons of talent in their systems and this isn't a regular occurrence. The FO simply isn't rating their talent correctly or are making commitments to fringe free agents too quickly or just not taking the backend of the 40 man roster seriously enough.
  15. I'm ok with Cave. He's a 4th OFer. That means he'll get spot starts but it also means he'll hold down a position for a bit while we wait for Larnich/Kiriloff/Rooker to be "ready." He's fine at his role. I would have been ok if the Twins let him go and gave his role to LaMonte Wade instead but having a guy like Cave is a good thing. I would be surprised if he got 300 plate appearances this year.
  16. Yeah, the Twins should be ok at DH. They have a lot of potential thump that can be moved there even if Cruz goes down for a while.
  17. I don't necessarily disagree with this but this is basically what Kepler was - a 2 WAR player - when he's hitting at a 95 OPS+ clip. Right now, I think we have enough options where we can say that's not good enough and move on because, as a system, our corner OF floor is very high. Larnich, Rooker, Cave can all probably combine in some fashion to produce more than 2 WAR in RF.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if our OF by the end of the year was mostly Kiriloff, Buxton, and Larnich. The good news is, we have some pretty good depth so we should be good in the OF.
  19. Any of you tech/computer game getting on RBLX? Not an area I know well. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/roblox-gains-steam-market-debut-162415152.html

  21. Yep, painful
  22. I thought this article was a nice reminder for why you should hold and not sell. https://www.ft.com/content/f8f8b067-e663-4afe-90dd-6a243929af86?ftcamp=traffic/partner/feed_headline/us_yahoo/auddev My wife and I have been pretty good about not panic selling, SHOP being my biggest mistake. Generally, you should only sell when you need to. We've bought stocks and sold them to pay off student debt, buy a house, etc but generally we own for the long haul and, with dividend reinvestment, it's worked for us.
  23. I assume this was MGNI?
  24. Thorpe could be something. I think the rest of the guys battling for #5 are meh but Thorpe could be better than that. Hopefully he has it all together.
