  1. Falvey took over a team littered with an incredible nucleus of top 100 talents, that was a year removed from nearly making the playoffs. The farm system when he took over was arguably in better shape than it is now. But the question is what do we want from him. The answer was simple - he was hired to recreate the Twins pitching pipeline that they relied on through 01-10. He hasn't done that yet.
  2. Padres seem more in on Berrios than others but the Twins have had calls on Pineda and Maeda as well. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/jose-berrios-trade-rumors-twins-mariners-mets.html
  3. Sounds like Berrios will get moved after teams lose out on Scherzer
  4. I agree with No. 1 completely. Levine has had trouble figuring out the talent in our system and the talent in other systems. Other than the Odorizzi trade, I'm not sure the Twins have won a trade under him. But No. 2, I think needs clarification. From 01-10, the Twins got 117 starts from FA pitchers. And 59 of them were from re-signing Radke. The Twins simply couldn't get FA starters, instead getting starters from solid drafting, trades, rule v, and waivers. That's what Falvey, from small-payroll Cleveland, was supposed to create again. So far, it hasn't happened. But there is no way that the checkbook is open in a way that the Twins can compete for in their prime free agents. We've had three GMs in the last decade. Donaldson was by far our biggest FA signing and his salary will probably limit what the FO can do in free agency this offseason as well.
  5. Nice article. I really like Gordon and I agree, he'll make a nice bench UI type, sorta of like an affordable Marwin Gonzalez and/or Ehire Adrianza type.
  6. It's great your fantasy baseball team did well, I have no idea if anyone drafted Berrios in a keeper league and I can spend the rest of my life not remotely caring. Max ain't a learjet anymore.
  7. Through age 26 seasons A- 36-35, 109 ERA+, 617 ip 10.1 WAR B - 48-38, 104 ERA+, 659.6 ip, 10.9 WAR This season - A - 7-4, 135 ERA+, 105ip, 2.5 WAR B - 7-5, 121 ERA+, 121ip, 2.3 WAR Obviously, Berrios hasn't had the ten year run that Max eventually got (although he's on pace to have the better age 27 season as well). But maybe pitching in the NL will help him as well. But right now, Berrios is arguably the better pitcher and he comes with an extra year of control for less then the amount of money Max will make in the second half of this year alone.
  8. That's true, I would assume/hope that the FO makes a good trade which might be wishful thinking on my part. It does sound like the Twins want to be blown away - https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/why-the-new-york-yankees-should-trade-for-minnesota-twins-outfielder-max-kepler
  9. I don't necessarily disagree with you but I think Kepler has some value in trade with other teams despite some mediocre stats. He's a good piece but he's not a vital cog like Buxton or Berrios. He's already 28. I wish we had more depth in the corners right now but we have some depth. And if Buxton doesn't stay healthy, it doesn't matter. This team has almost no pitching so they have to start moving bats to get pitching. Kepler and one of Polanco/Arraez is a good start to get pitching.
  10. I'd move on from Kepler and plan to have a Larnich/Buxton/Kiriloff OF next year. I think someone might give up some nice pitching potential for him. Even with him gone, we'd still have Rooker, Cave, Celestino, Gordon and Arraez around. (This is really where getting nothing for Wade and Baddoo really hurts). I think I'd trade one of Polanco or Arraez as well. Both play second well enough but I'm not sure they should be our starting MI next year. Not sure what the market for them is though. I'd move Rogers if we can as well as all of our free agent to be pitchers. Even with those trades, we should have enough offense next year and I like Miranda as a bat coming up. The problem is we have a bad rotation and a useless bullpen.
  11. Maybe we could get him the roids Boston gave Ortiz ....
  12. The twins offer was pretty low, pretty easy to turn that down. Best case for the Twins is he comes back, finishes the season healthy and they move him this post season
  13. It's a good deal for the Twins but the new pitchers are most likely #5, back of the rotation types, if that. Still, I like that we got AAA pitchers that will make the majors in this deal.
  14. I think you are being too charitable to this FO. They've made many bad moves where they simply misjudged the talent they had, misjudged talent they were getting back, or misjudged how other teams measured talent.
  15. Berrios is gone so a smart team would move him now to get the highest value they can. Not sure I trust them to make a good trade but they really should try to do that now.
  16. I think Morneau was probably pretty close to right on what was happening. I'm sure Donaldson used some swear words as well. Watching Cruz's reaction, he doesn't seem overly concerned. Mostly a nothing burger.
  17. There are a few picks I liked - MacLeod will make the majors, I like that the Twins took Petty. Young power arm that could start if it goes well works for me. I wonder how much the Twins saved, if they can convince one of the handful of power HS arms to sign rather than go to college, I'd be really impressed.
  18. I haven't followed the minors and the draft this year like I have in the past but generally, the more picks in the top 100, the better the draft. I don't love the Twins college bat approach this low but another Larnich wouldn't bug me. I don't think we'll pick pitching with either of these two picks so I hope we get some massive power. The biggest problem (to me) in drafting college players is how old they are when they debut. Lanrich is 24. Rooker is 26 in AAA. Wallner is 23 in A+. Sabato is 22 and struggling in A ball.
