  1. I'm not quite as optimistic as others, mostly because I just don't see the pitching coming around. I think we have the pieces to keep a pretty strong offense around but it looks like we have a bunch of backend/AAAA arms. I'm done with the Dobnaks, Jaxs, Smeltzers. Woods-Richardson might become as good as Berrios, although that's unlikely. But it also seems that the Twins have changed their pitching philosophy so we need a pitching staff where we need to have a bunch of effective bullpen arms that we don't really have to go along with a the five inning starter.
  2. I agree. I like Ober. Darn nice return for a 12th round pick. But it's sad that this is what this season has come to. I want a playoff rotation. I want my promised pitching pipeline. It's sad that this is what we're left with.
  3. I actually like Ober but this is sad. Ober doesn't make the rotation on a real playoff team. As it is, he could be a 4/5 type starter if everything works out. Ideally, we could give those starts to someone with higher upside. But we aren't.
  4. I think the Twins did well but keeping Pineda was a legit mistake and they should get criticized for it. On the other hand, the Berrios trade was a very good one, easily the most important one this FO has made. That and the Cruz trade managed to upgrade the farm system pretty well. Rumors that they were trying to move Buxton pissed me off and I'm still not sure this FO has a plan but I think it's fair to say this was their best trade deadline and they "won" it.
  5. Oh, yeah. Don't do that. No one can time the market.
  6. I loved the Berrios trade, great return, understood why we had to do it. But do not trade Buxton.
  7. Just wild guesses but I think Pineda goes to the Mets or Phillies for a solid prospect (top 6-10 on the receiving teams list). Simmons gets moved for not much.
  8. Plus fatigue. Seems like his last few starts were the big problem.
  9. Martin Woods-Richardson Lewis Balazovic Maybe Ryan here? Windor? I like Miranda a lot but not sure he's #5 yet.
  10. Wow, I've been hard on Levine for a while but this is a legit great trade. Well done to get two top 50ish prospects, including an elite bat like Martin. I'll miss Berrios but if you have to trade him, this is a really great return. Well down Twins FO.
  11. Wow, Martin, too? Great deal for the Twins. He's #16 on the pipeline
  12. Happ? I haven't heard much on Pineda but he should be traded today, no matter what.
  13. But so what? If Buxton's out, we're cooked. I don't want to give Kepler away but we should consider moving him for pitching and not worrying about the backup CF position. As for corner OFers, we have Larnich, Kiriloff, Arraez (maybe Rooker) as legit options with Gordon, Celestino, Cave, and a few cheap FA possibilities as back-ups. The defense won't be great but if Buxton's healthy, I don't think it's that big a problem.
  14. I don't have a problem with Kepler but he's not a vital cog, he's 28, and he plays a position that the Twins have spent a lot of draft capital on so he should be replaceable. Don't give him away but if we can get more pitching, move him.
  15. Surprisingly dull day for the Twins. Maybe no one meets their price on Berrios but they'd better move Pineda tomorrow. I also don't think Simmons should be here after tomorrow but I have no idea if there was any market for him.
  16. Pepiot seems to be #7 in the Dodgers system. Some question on whether he's a starter long term or a strong relief pitcher. He spins the ball well, which this FO seems to like. He's already 23 in AA.
  17. Eh. I think we just agree to disagree. The farm system when he took over had 4 top 100 prospects in it, now we have two according to BA midseason top 100. The system had Kiriloff, Garver, Baddoo, Arraez, Chargois, and Wade who all look like solid MLers as well as a number of UI/AAAA types plus a few more who are still around. There is no Buxton/Berrios in that group but it's a solid group. Looking at our current list, we still don't have any Buxton/Berrios types* but a few that could certainly turn out to be solid MLers. But several of the players you listed I'm already souring on - Sabato is overwhelmed at low A, Enlow might not be protected on the 40 man this offseason. I like Balzovic (who Falvey inherited) and I like Windor and the pitchers we got in the Cruz trade. But I don't think the farm system has improved that much in five years despite being given more payroll than previous teams. The Larnich/Jeffers draft was great and COVID mucked a lot of things up so it's hard to grade the 2020 draft of the development of recently drafted players. But the nucleus that Falvey got was going to win some games, no matter who was the GM. I don't think he did enough to keep that window open and I don't think he's done a good job creating a pitching pipeline. * I loved the Petty pick, but too early to put him in the Berrios category.
  18. I would think the Padres getting Scherzer would push the Dodgers to improve their rotation but I'm a bit surprised not to hear a lot about the Phillies. I don't think they'd be in on Berrios but maybe Pineda? They are only 4 GB from a very catchable Mets team. I came into today thinking it was a coin flip on whether Berrios gets moved but now it looks pretty certain. I really hope we nail this trade.
