  1. But so what? If Buxton's out, we're cooked. I don't want to give Kepler away but we should consider moving him for pitching and not worrying about the backup CF position. As for corner OFers, we have Larnich, Kiriloff, Arraez (maybe Rooker) as legit options with Gordon, Celestino, Cave, and a few cheap FA possibilities as back-ups. The defense won't be great but if Buxton's healthy, I don't think it's that big a problem.
  2. I don't have a problem with Kepler but he's not a vital cog, he's 28, and he plays a position that the Twins have spent a lot of draft capital on so he should be replaceable. Don't give him away but if we can get more pitching, move him.
  3. Surprisingly dull day for the Twins. Maybe no one meets their price on Berrios but they'd better move Pineda tomorrow. I also don't think Simmons should be here after tomorrow but I have no idea if there was any market for him.
  4. Pepiot seems to be #7 in the Dodgers system. Some question on whether he's a starter long term or a strong relief pitcher. He spins the ball well, which this FO seems to like. He's already 23 in AA.
  5. Eh. I think we just agree to disagree. The farm system when he took over had 4 top 100 prospects in it, now we have two according to BA midseason top 100. The system had Kiriloff, Garver, Baddoo, Arraez, Chargois, and Wade who all look like solid MLers as well as a number of UI/AAAA types plus a few more who are still around. There is no Buxton/Berrios in that group but it's a solid group. Looking at our current list, we still don't have any Buxton/Berrios types* but a few that could certainly turn out to be solid MLers. But several of the players you listed I'm already souring on - Sabato is overwhelmed at low A, Enlow might not be protected on the 40 man this offseason. I like Balzovic (who Falvey inherited) and I like Windor and the pitchers we got in the Cruz trade. But I don't think the farm system has improved that much in five years despite being given more payroll than previous teams. The Larnich/Jeffers draft was great and COVID mucked a lot of things up so it's hard to grade the 2020 draft of the development of recently drafted players. But the nucleus that Falvey got was going to win some games, no matter who was the GM. I don't think he did enough to keep that window open and I don't think he's done a good job creating a pitching pipeline. * I loved the Petty pick, but too early to put him in the Berrios category.
  6. I would think the Padres getting Scherzer would push the Dodgers to improve their rotation but I'm a bit surprised not to hear a lot about the Phillies. I don't think they'd be in on Berrios but maybe Pineda? They are only 4 GB from a very catchable Mets team. I came into today thinking it was a coin flip on whether Berrios gets moved but now it looks pretty certain. I really hope we nail this trade.
  7. Falvey took over a team littered with an incredible nucleus of top 100 talents, that was a year removed from nearly making the playoffs. The farm system when he took over was arguably in better shape than it is now. But the question is what do we want from him. The answer was simple - he was hired to recreate the Twins pitching pipeline that they relied on through 01-10. He hasn't done that yet.
  8. Padres seem more in on Berrios than others but the Twins have had calls on Pineda and Maeda as well. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/jose-berrios-trade-rumors-twins-mariners-mets.html
  9. I think we had a thread about good TV shows but I can't find it. We have HBO Max and just finished The Outsider and just started Lovecraft Country. Both are really good.
  10. Sounds like Berrios will get moved after teams lose out on Scherzer
  11. I agree with No. 1 completely. Levine has had trouble figuring out the talent in our system and the talent in other systems. Other than the Odorizzi trade, I'm not sure the Twins have won a trade under him. But No. 2, I think needs clarification. From 01-10, the Twins got 117 starts from FA pitchers. And 59 of them were from re-signing Radke. The Twins simply couldn't get FA starters, instead getting starters from solid drafting, trades, rule v, and waivers. That's what Falvey, from small-payroll Cleveland, was supposed to create again. So far, it hasn't happened. But there is no way that the checkbook is open in a way that the Twins can compete for in their prime free agents. We've had three GMs in the last decade. Donaldson was by far our biggest FA signing and his salary will probably limit what the FO can do in free agency this offseason as well.
  12. Nice article. I really like Gordon and I agree, he'll make a nice bench UI type, sorta of like an affordable Marwin Gonzalez and/or Ehire Adrianza type.
  13. It's great your fantasy baseball team did well, I have no idea if anyone drafted Berrios in a keeper league and I can spend the rest of my life not remotely caring. Max ain't a learjet anymore.
  14. Through age 26 seasons A- 36-35, 109 ERA+, 617 ip 10.1 WAR B - 48-38, 104 ERA+, 659.6 ip, 10.9 WAR This season - A - 7-4, 135 ERA+, 105ip, 2.5 WAR B - 7-5, 121 ERA+, 121ip, 2.3 WAR Obviously, Berrios hasn't had the ten year run that Max eventually got (although he's on pace to have the better age 27 season as well). But maybe pitching in the NL will help him as well. But right now, Berrios is arguably the better pitcher and he comes with an extra year of control for less then the amount of money Max will make in the second half of this year alone.
  15. That's true, I would assume/hope that the FO makes a good trade which might be wishful thinking on my part. It does sound like the Twins want to be blown away - https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/why-the-new-york-yankees-should-trade-for-minnesota-twins-outfielder-max-kepler
