    After next 9 games we will know much more about where we will fall into playoff picture. I think we will win division, unless Cleveland can take 5 of remaining 6 or all 6, against us. I think we will be road team, but looking at our record that may be a good thing. It really does not matter who we play, most likely if we want to get the ship we will need to beat both Houston and New York. We can beat either, and both have dealt with injuries all year on and off. New York has major pitching problems, but our pitchers did nothing to stop their lineup either. Should be a fun October.

    Eddie is who he is, like it or not. You cannot make him any different at this time. He has done a little better, but he will swing at bad pitches and sometimes he will get hits, some times he will not. If you want him to change to Arraez, he will not. If he can get hot in playoffs he can carry the team all the way to the ship. Personally, I do not expect he will be on team long term and will be replaced by one of our many up and coming OF. Our team leads MLB in runs scored, and we are complaining we could have scored more if Eddie would just stay off some bad pitches? How many bad pitches this season has he produced big hits on, did you look at that? I have not, but know in the past I have seen him hit big hits on pitches well out of zone. You have to take good with the bad and accept it. If he knew how to hone his zone he would have by now.

    Umm why not call him up? He is not taking space from anyone else, and when you in playoff push it is not about getting new pitchers time it is about winning. If they do not call him up, he will be sitting at home figuring out his off season. What good does that do? At very least he can go in a blow out and not use up someone you want in a close game.

    I personally would not give QO. If you want him back work out a contract you expect him to sign. If you go QO, then him and his agent say that is starting offer and will want more, which he will not get, go into offseason with QO over his head and end up Lance Lynn style. Think about it, past Cy Young winners have not got signed because of the QO. So if offered Odo should accept it, but then he may resent team for it and Odo strikes me as one that needs to be in good mood to perform well. Of the three FA to be, I would like to see Twins sign one and it would be Big Mike. He has been most consistant pitcher this year and been getting better as year goes on. I would not want 3 or 4 rookie, near rookie pitchers. Maybe they go out to sign a FA not sure what will be there though. For Odo, I personally would pass though.

    First, I am not trying to argue that Lewis is set to be top player around, but there is a reason many outlets have him near top prospect around. Yes, his numbers are not as good as one would hope, but being over 3 years younger than average comp should be considered. Finally, pure numbers does not tell the whole story, and sure the FO and coaches have much more of an idea of how he is doing. Remember Kepler numbers last few years and people were talking platooning him, now he is doing great and no need to platoon. Kepler had some of hardest contact on the team last year, but had very low BABIP compared to average exit velocity. I trust in the Falvene two-headed monster, at least so far.

    Did Graterol get put on 40 before September 1? I may be wrong, but believe only those on 40 Man by September 1 are available for playoffs, or does that change with 60 IL changes? Not to look ahead too much, but think off season will be very interesting. We have a lot of MLB ready guys or will be soon, and not enough spots to put them, on the offense side at least. Who gets moved, and for what?

    I think May needs to have the approach, throw it until this hit it. I hate when a pitcher is over powering or making a hitter look foolish, then they overthink it and try to throw something different. Happen with Santana, forget the color guy, think it was Morris, but he said on 0-2 throw the FB again, he was over powered, and the curve got hung. When Buxton, and many others, were struggling against the slider low and away swinging every time, I was thinking why would a pitcher ever throw something else? Until the hitter shows they will not chase it, throw it.

    I agree. There was a lot of talk about Falvey being part of the Cleveland pitching prospect train, finding diamons in the rough and molding them to good if not great pitchers, I was skeptical that an assistant GM, or what ever his title was in Cleveland, would have all that much impact. However, look at what in just a few years has happened here, so many possible top pitching prospects that seem legit are starting to emerge. Will be interesting to see what happens next couple years with prospect log jam.

    I think most people were hard on bullpen because it was largest weakness, however, when compared to others, like this article shows, they are not as bad as people think. Every team has some bad games bullpen wise, it happens, but those are the games most remember, not the games they got the job done just fine.

    I think there is a question if you leave off any of the starters and which one? You only need 4 in playoffs at most, and would you want any of them coming out of bullpen? I am a fan of bringing defense and runners to the playoffs for late game moves.

    As much as I want him to be an Ace, he really is not a true Ace, only the Twins Ace. He is very good, but I am never thinking when he takes the mound we have this game for sure. In terms of the wins, remember he is going up against normally the best pitcher on the other team, which limits run scored for him typically.

    No way is Javier put on 40 after this season. A rebuilding team may try to take him knowing he will struggle a ton, but for a contending team no way do they waste a spot on MLB roster, and I do not think Twins would be willing to use 40 man spot either. The only way this changes is if he plays some winter ball and tears it up.

    I was hoping last night he was going to come through, but can't do it every time. It has been very nice to see this change. Lets hope as pitchers adjust, he does as well. I think the biggest thing for Sano was he never failed in his life until getting to majors and then could not figure how to get out of it, despite being coached, but sometimes you need to let players fail their way before they are willing to do it your way.

    I wonder how much of Cruz being on team has helped Sano. It may not have done a thing, but Sano's change in swing seems to fit much of what Cruz has done. I am sure Sano was told for years to do what he is doing now, look to hit ball to right center and adjust to offspeed. But sometimes it takes someone else to tell you the same thing for it to sink in. If Cruz has impacted Sano at all, he is worth way more than Twins are paying him, because when healthy Cruz has raked all year. Hope he keeps it up and comes back next year doing same thing.

    One of the best way to fix throwing errors by infielders is to get a better fielding first baseman. Sure having better throws will help, but if you can get a good fielding first baseman that scoops throws in dirt or can come off bag and still get out that reduces those. Many people think you can but anyone over at first and all they have to do is catch the ball, but a good defender can save so many errors. So many throws from Sano or Polonco that have been errors, at least ones I have seen, could have been scooped and were not. I feel also, that when you know you need to make the throw dead on target for your guy to catch it makes it more likely you screw it up. I have, and always will be, a fan of good fielding first basemen over offensive ones. Sure both are best, but that is at every position.

    I personally do not care the walk percentage for Kiriloff, as long as the walk to strikeout rate does not get much worse, right now it is about same as Lewis at a 3 to 1 ratio K to BB. When players do not walk a lot I always look at how often they strike out, and if the ratio is very high that most likely means they are chasing and missing a lot of pitches. If both percentages are down then it just means they put a lot of balls in play.

    I have been down on Cron all second half. I hope for his sake it is just the thumb injury, but his defense is not good and he is not hitting right hand pitching. The issue is with Buxton hurt and Tortuga out there are not a lot of options. Either Cave, Schoop, or Adrianza need to play if Cron does not. Schoop is worse than Cron, and Cave for most part is worse too, so that leaves Adrianza. Once Buxton comes back, Gonzales can play infield more again, and once Tortuga gets back he can play first or catch and let Garver play more in field. I think coaching staff knows the issue, but right now not a lot of solutions.

    Sano has been crushing lately. I have been way down on him over the years, but he is showing he is putting in the work. The hardest thing for some players is to change what has worked their whole lives, even harder when it does not work right away. I think he is finally learning he does not need to pull everything, he can put the ball out to any field. I hope his next step is to plan out the at bat, and not just react. So many times in the past, not so much recently, he would go up there and try to pull outside sliders and just miss or weak contact. If he would go up and look for that pitch, step into it, he could smoke that thing off of or over the RF over and over. If we play in NY during playoffs, I hope he thinks about fact a pop up to RF is a home run in NY.

    If you asked Buxton to pull up and not play at 11, as you say, then you do not have Buxton, you have someone lessor. Sure, that still may be better than not having him at all. I agree, he should get with someone like Hunter to learn how to dive and jump into wall better, but asking him to tone it down will lower his value, the question will be how much lower and is it worth the trade off of having him on field more.

    I have been hoping they call someone else up every time. Cave rakes at AAA, then does nothing up at MLB. Plus, he does keep having terrible fielding plays. He did make nice catch to seal game other day, but his play last night was terrible. I am not sure if he is considered better on defense than Cave, but I would like to see more of Wade.

    I hope many of these guys will become legit MLB guys, not too many on prospect lists, or not that high at least. Let's hope our system is set up like Cleveland and we keep pumping out top arms, you cannot have too much pitching.

    Yup, Keith Law walks around with a ruler, if you under 6'2" you are not a top pitching prospect and cannot make it in the majors. Maybe someone should show him video of Pedro Martinez, and may others. I never pay attention to Keith Law's lists because he pays way too much attention to height, something that really is not all that important in baseball.

    What I like best about Smeltzer is his willingness to do what is asked of him and to adjust. When Twins acquired him he stated he wanted to start, and Twins told him what he needed to make it happen. He worked his butt off and it is paying off. Some feel entitled to positions, or will not listen to the adjustments needed to succeed, he is not one of them. Kid is clearly a fighter, I will take a fighter over someone who profiles as a top guy. Here is to hoping his first few starts are not just smoke and mirrors but he can keep it up.

    Nice to see Gordon hitting well in AAA. For everyone that keeps dropping him down the prospect lists, it is interesting if you look at his career. He has moved up the levels slow and steady, similar to Aaron Hicks, not comparing in any other fashion than both had slow learning curve per level. Not sure what Gordon's defense has been looking like, but offense wise he will be demanding a MLB spot next year. The question is with what team. Twins have SS and 2nd pretty locked up next year, barring injury, with Polonco and Aarriz. 3rd is possibly open, depending on what they do with Sano and 1st base. I bet Gordon gets dealt during off season now that he is looking MLB ready. If his defense at SS is holding well, he should draw some good attention from rebuilding teams with controlled starting pitching that are not ready to compete.

    I think this is in party why he has not been extended. His defense has been trending downward, the eyes can tell that, and his bat has been good overall, but not game changing to level you overlook poor defense. I like the improvement he has made at the plate, and he loves the big moment to do big things, but he is starting to go by way of man ram, not that bad yet, but he clearly is not taking it as serious as his hitting.
